.Hack//New Testament Chapter 10

Yankee Doodle

“Yankee Doodle”, identified in 1991, is a typical computer virus created by a hacker who did it simply because it was fun to do so.

The following details the chronicles of this virus.

An anti-virus software salesman opened a personal computer shop, and at that time the virus was still not well-known, and the person in charge was treated with contempt. (“Is this machine a drug? Then I’ll have to buy a mask! HAHAHA!”).

However, as soon as five o’clock in the evening came, the computers there started to play the “Alps Ichiman Jaku” song all at the same time.

When the salesman who was wondering confirmed what was happening, the person in charge shrugged and answered.

“I don’t know why, but this song has started playing at 5 o’clock recently.”

“This is a computer virus!”

Upon examination, it became clear that all the computers in the store were infected with the “Yankee Doodle” virus.

The contract was finalized.

Translator’s Note: The Yankee Doodle virus is based on the real life “Yankeedoodle” virus from 1989 which would cause computers to play the “Yankee Doodle” tune at 5:00pm. “Alps Ichiman Jyaku” is a Japanese kids song that is sung to the tune of “Yankee Doodle.”
