"Run faster! We have to be in a safe place until Big Brother Nex defeats that monster!"

Roland cried as he urged the villagers to increase their speed.

After he gave the potion to the village chief and saw that her wound was starting to heal, he picked the old woman up and ran to the villagers while yelling at them that they were released from the bombs and that they need to run away from the fight that was about to happen.

Although the villagers were still shocked from the earlier event, the surprisingly strong voice of the normally shy and meek Roland managed to wake them up and quickly all of the able-bodied people who had strength at First Awakening and the peak of Unawakened, picked up the young and elderly and began to run in the opposite direction of Nex and the hybrid, who had started to fight.

And as they ran, they heard the sound of the monster roaring in their direction from behind so strongly that the ground began to tremble and they thought an earthquake was about to hit them right before the powerful sound of the roar and the tremblings were suddenly cut short.

'Big Brother Nex!'

Although the rest didn't know what stopped the roar and probably saved them, Roland, who unknowingly changed how he called Nex from "Mister" to "Big Brother" was actually able to sense how Nex's energy managed to cancel the shockwaves from the monsters roar and felt his courage increasing.

'That's right! My instincts are never wrong! Not only is Big Brother Nex a very kind man, but he is also a very strong one! I just need to do as he says and everything will be fine!'

"Argh!"

And soon after, the sound of the hybrid howling in pain was heard and then heard again after a few seconds, raising the spirits of not just Roland, but all of the villagers.

'Everything is gonna be fine!' Roland thought right before a large boom was heard that made his face turn pale, but he grit his teeth and continued running. He didn't know Nex for long but his instincts were never wrong! If Nex said that he will take care of it, then it must be true!

But then a bad feeling came over him and he felt a terrifying amount of evil energy gathering from where the fight was and his instincts suddenly began to warn him of great danger.

He ignored it and continued running until suddenly a single thought appeared in his head.

'What if Big Brother is planning to sacrifice himself?'

He denied it fiercely at first, but as he ran additional thoughts rose.

'Big Brother is probably injured from the earlier explosion...'

'And now he will face this scary energy...'

'And he will not run away if it means the attack will reach us…'

Roland's face turned white and he turned around only to see a giant beam of red-purple light advancing in their direction, growing bigger as it destroyed anything in its way.

"Big Brother Nex!"

Roland immediately knew that Nex will not survive this attack.

"Ahhh! @#%$!"

But as if to announce to the world, Nex cry could be heard along with strange words that Roland had never heard before, and then a wave of silver-golden energy appeared and went against the much larger and wider beam.

At first, Roland was happy as he knew that it was Nex' attack, but soon after, he realized that it wasn't enough against the beam. That is, until he heard Nex again.

"&@#$!"

As if it had previously held back, the energy wave suddenly exploded with power and speed and met the beam head-on.

*BOOM!*

A flash of a strange light momentarily blinded the villagers who had long stopped in place and turned around in order to see what may be the last thing they would see, and when they regained their vision a shocking event appeared.

The red-purple beam was separated into two and then destroyed by the sword wave that continued on its path unhindered and advanced in its way both forward and upward for over 250 meters before suddenly disappearing!

"...He did it!"

The villagers were silent for a moment, until someone cried in joy and the rest joined him.

"Big Brother Nex!"

But Roland was thinking otherwise, he knew that Nex' attack had probably cost him greatly and after quickly handing the village chief over to one of the villagers he began to run to where Nex was the fastest he could.

'Argh! My body! This game is too realistic on this part!'

Nex sighed internally as he felt the rampaging pain in his body.

"Hic! Please wake up! Hic!"

He began to hear the sobbing voice of someone as his senses began to return to his body, and gradually, he felt someone rest their small head and hands on his chest while crying.

"Roland?"

Nex weakly opened his eyes and saw the small kid crying on his chest.

"Big Brother?"

Roland lifted his face and saw Nex looking at him with a smile.

"I am alright," Nex ignored the searing pain and lifted his hand to pet Roland while supporting himself up with the other, "Just some strained muscles, that's all."

"Big Brother!" Roland's eyes once again reddened and he hugged Nex tightly while sobbing loudly.

"I'm sorry! I-I just wanted to save the village!"

"It's fine kid, I told you I will take care of this," Nex petted the kid while smiling bitterly, 'Since when am I so popular with kids?'

He then stared at his nearly empty HP bar and sighed, if he didn't prepare the last attack and instead unleashed it directly, he wouldn't have been able to stop the mask skill in time and would have probably died.

He took a Health Potion from his inventory and drank it in one go. He bought them for a large price at the city and he thought that he would most likely use them up on other people before there would be a need to use it on himself. But it seems he was now proven wrong.

"To be able to unleash such an attack with your strength and still survive, I don't think I have ever heard about someone like you, nor will I hear it again, probably."

Nex lifted his gaze and saw the village chief coming toward him while being supported by other villagers.

"You healed quite well, seeing how you're walking around after being stabbed like that."

"It's all thanks to the potion you had Roland give me." the chief dismissed him and then continued, "Sorry for not moving you from where you were, we didn't dare to move you after seeing the state of your body."

"It's fine," Nex shook his head and then pointed at Roland who unknowingly fell asleep while hugging him, "But I do need some explanation about him."

The village chief face became serious and she nodded.

"We will talk in my house."

♦♦♦

The village chief and Nex, who carried the sleeping Roland, entered a small room where there was a small bed and a chair along with a chest that is used to store things.

Nex tried to put the kid on the bed but the latter wasn't willing to let go of him even in his sleep, and only after some effort and help from the village chief, did Nex succeed in laying Roland on the bed while petting the latter and letting him hold the hem of his clothes with his small hand.

"He used to do it when he was little," the village chief sat on the chair and stared at the sleeping Roland with a bitter-sweet gaze before looking at Nex with a gaze full of gratitude and slight surprise, "But to think he would be so attached to you that he was able to stand on his own earlier and save me and now to hold you like that without letting go. This is my first time seeing him act like that to someone who is not his parents. I can't say I am not jealous."

Nex stared at Roland as well before sighing softly and petting the kid gently and making sure he is sleeping comfortably.

"For an Arch-Human to have such a gentle and kind-hearted personality so much that he won't allow himself to get close to others because he fears hurting and scaring them. it is because of cases like this that I hate fate so much."

"How did you know that!?" the village chief eyes widened and she stared at Nex vigilantly before she remembered what he had just done and her gaze softened and she bowed in apology, "I am sorry for my reaction. it's just that the ones that know what Roland's race is are mostly our enemies."

"It's fine, your suspicion is justified," Nex smiled gently as he petted Roland's head as if he was a dear relative, "The reason I know about his race is that my race is very similar to an Arch-Human and can even be counted as a variant of one, it's most likely because of that, that he feels so close to me."

'Well, just my soul is, for now at least,' Nex decided to omit that part.

"You are!?" the old lady's eyes widened and she stared at Nex with a new gaze, "Then it's because of that, that you managed to exhibit so much strength… now it all makes sense."

"You can say that," Nex lied, unfazed, and then moved the conversation forward, "I can guess the type of reasons that peoples from an Abyss Realm want him for, so instead I will ask this: what exactly is Roland's background?"

"You even know about Abyss Realms," the village chief sighed and then her face became melancholic, "Roland's background… this is a long story."

"It all began 10 years ago," although her face showed her sadness, the village chief didn't stop and instead began to tell the story, "Back then, I was a bodyguard of the young miss of the Azuresky family, the Duke family that is in charge of the capital. back then, the young miss was just over twenty years old and after convincing her family, she managed to get permission to go tour the kingdom."

"And during her journeys, she met a talented adventurer that had just gotten his Third Awakening Badge and, almost instantly, the two fell in love with each other. But, despite the great talent of the adventurer, the difference in status was too great and if the matter was known to the world, separation would be their only choice."

The old lady smiled lightly as she remembered the past, "But since these two foolish brats were so helplessly in love, they didn't give up on each other and instead met secretly more and more often while the only one knowing about the relationship was me. And about one year after, the young miss was found to be pregnant."

"Realizing they were past the point of no return, the pair didn't hesitate much and soon after convinced me as well to leave everything behind and elope away from the young miss' family's gaze. And believe it or not, we actually succeeded and we soon enough found and settled in a small village, living our life peacefully. And just like that, nine months passed and as you guessed, Roland was born."

"As Roland grew up, his parents quickly realized his uniqueness and tried to hide it as much as they could. But when he became four, a group of people wielding evil powers appeared and tried to take Roland away. But they severely underestimated our powers and were quickly defeated. Roland's parents and I realized what kind of danger he was in and we quickly went on a journey in order to find something that would hide him from those menacing eyes."

"But during our journey, we were attacked again and again and it became harder and harder to defeat them without using powers that would expose our identities. And finally, we found a magical herb that would hide his existence from those vile people. But the moment we got the herb we were ambushed by our enemies and although we managed to defeat them, I lost all of my power and the young miss' identity was revealed."

"We only had a short time before the people from Azuresky would arrive and knowing what Roland's fate would be if they knew of him, Roland's parents quickly used the herb on him and sent him with me to go hide inside this small village, away from others' eyes."

"What happened to Roland's parents," Nex furrowed his brows and asked.

The old lady sighed sadly, "They were caught by the Azuresky and as you would expect the young miss' family was quite furious. The young miss was sentenced to be locked inside her house for the rest of her life and as for Roland's father, only after the young miss' begging and his identity as a talented Adventurer was he not killed and was instead sentenced to be exiled from the kingdom in order to fight in the front lines against the demons and monsters. other than the young miss, who has a soul item of him, no one knows whether he is dead or alive."

"I see," Nex nodded, "And let me guess the rest. You wanted to wait until Roland grew older and then send him to someone who could both teach and defend him until he was strong enough to be able to protect himself. Am I right?"

"Yes," the village chief sighed, "But who would have thought that the herb's effects would wear out so soon."

"It may be true for other races, but Arch-Humans are much more complicated than you think," Nex shook his head, "The only reason Roland wasn't found sooner is that he hasn't actually used or trained his innate power yet."

"Is that so," the village chief's gaze became dim and she reluctantly sighed, "There is no other choice then. I know it would be rude of me to ask, but can I request your help?"

"Speak." Nex nodded.

The old lady nodded in gratitude and then stared at Nex deeply, "I ask you to take Roland to Starshine and then make him the disciple of one of the five saints."
