One million pounds. It wasn’t an amount that could be easily transferred from bank account to bank account. However, to Danny, this wasn’t an issue at all. Within just the span of a few hours in the morning, most of the money in Kate’s account had been moved to Danny’s business account.

“The transaction is complete. Kate is under our protection now and she is going to be safe as long as she doesn’t leave this building,” said Danny confidently.

“Of course, that’s only if we aren’t all killed,” he quickly added with a slight grin on his face.

“I have another request,” Kate said. She seemed to be in a much calmer state, but the distress on her face hadn’t gone away or improved at all. “My parents, my teammates… Can you tell me what happened to their bodies?”

“The Scotland Yard took them all for an autopsy. It’s going to take a while for them to finish the examinations.”

Yang Yi stood silent and watched from the side. He wasn’t sure if Danny could see it, but Kate was trying to hold back tears. Kate asked as calmly as she could, “Is it possible for them to be buried as soon as possible?”

“Hmm, sure, but you would need to pay a lot. Jones’s cause of death hasn’t been confirmed yet, but all the other members of your team were definitely murdered. I’m sorry to say this, but it’s impossible to recover all those bodies for a case this big, and frankly, I don’t even think it’s necessary to get them back.”

Kate didn’t pay attention to the last line he spoke. Instead, she pressed on, “How much do you need?”

“You plan to bury every one of them?”

“Yes.”

“Trust me, you can’t afford it. Getting one body will cost one hundred thousand pounds. I’m not going to be generous at all regarding things I don’t consider necessary.”

“Just my parents then. Can you bury them as soon as possible?”

“That’ll be two hundred thousand pounds, and then another two hundred thousand pounds for Scotland Yard.”

“Three hundred thousand, please, that is all I have,” Kate pleaded, but Danny only continued to shake his head.

“Like I said, I won’t be generous regarding things I don’t consider necessary. One person for a hundred thousand and no bargaining is allowed.”

Yang Yi couldn’t bear to watch the exchange any longer. He took out his own bank card and decided to intervene. He stated, “I’ll help her fill the sum up. Here, that’s a total of four hundred thousand.”

Kate stood by in shock as the man beside her gave all the money he had to help her. However, her mind was filled with gratitude instead of focusing on the surprise.

“Thank you,” Kate said as she looked into Yang Yi’s eyes.

“It’s a deal then,” Danny said. He then signaled his subordinates with a snap of his fingers. As Kate handed her bank card over to one of Danny’s bodyguards, Danny ordered, “Tell Ah Ming to pay a visit to Scotland Yard. Have this girl’s parents buried within three days.”

After Danny’s subordinates took the remaining balance from Yang Yi’s card, Danny changed to a different topic, “You’ve made the payments now. I suppose it’s time to ask what you want to do in the future.”

Danny continued as if to better explain why he had asked the question, “Well, my advice is obviously that you two don’t leave the building at the moment, but what about when you do leave? What do you plan to do once you are no longer under our protection?”

Yang Yi answered enthusiastically, “I don’t really have a specific plan. I, uh, want to be a spy. Basically, I want to be someone capable, like you guys. So are you willing to take me as one of the Dark Knights?”

“I was afraid you would say that. Let me ask you something, you became a spy so you can avenge your father’s death, correct?”

“Yes!” Yang Yi replied quickly. There was no doubt in his mind that he would stop at nothing to achieve that goal.

“Do you know who your target is?”

Yang Yi shook his head and said, “The men in grey. Apart from that name, I don’t know anything else.”

“I have a lot of reasons to why I won’t let you join the Dark Knights then. First and foremost, you’re a complete amateur. You also became a spy for personal matters, which we don’t ever get involved in. I don’t know anything about the men in grey, but a shady name like that sounds like nothing but trouble.”

‘But,’ Danny continued smiling at Yang Yi, who already looked disappointed, “You two can just stay here, you know that right? After all, this is over, I can try to send you away and you two can spend your lives somewhere peaceful.”

Despite the generous offer, Yang Yi just laughed bitterly in response. Kate was standing beside him and shaking her head, firmly against the offer. Danny sighed as he shrugged his shoulders, “I knew it was a waste to say that to you too.”

The sound of knocking came from the door at that moment.

“Who is it?” asked Danny, before a man appeared in the doorway.

“Hi, I’m here to deliver something to a room. Someone wanted a plastic bedpan?”

Danny looked towards Yang Yi, who was nodding his head. “Yeah, it was me,” Yang Yi confirmed. He didn’t explain what the bedpan was for, but there was no need for an explanation. After all, it was awfully inconvenient for Yang Yi to help Kate every time she needed to move or use the washroom.

But despite the seemingly-ordinary scenario, one of the bodyguards, Xiao Fung, quickly stood up and asked, “Who are you again?”

“I’m a staff member of the hotel. Sir, here’s the bedpan you requested.”

“Watch out!” Danny screamed. Xiao Fung was already stepping aside and pulling an assault rifle out of his sleeve. Danny pushed Yang Yi to the side and withdrew his p7 pistol.

Yang Yi couldn’t see what was going on from the floor, but there was the sound of something heavy falling on the rug. It was Xiao Fung, whose right arm had been cut. He let out a painful moan and swung his left arm. It wasn’t to attack but to block another stab that was aimed at his eyes.

Xiao Fung wasn’t able to dodge the attack completely. The mysterious man managed to stab him in the chest. Just when Danny was about to rush in and open fire on the man, the invader disappeared without a trace.

Danny quickly rushed after him, but after a short time he returned and headed towards Xiao Fung, who was still breathing and alive. Danny loosened his tie and shouted loud enough for the entire building to hear, “Ah Yao, come help! Xiao Fung got stabbed! Quick, everyone else stop that man who’s wearing our hotel uniform. Get to it!”

“Hurry up! Come here and attend to his wounds!” Danny said as he pressed on Xiao Fung’s wound with his tie. The cut on his abdomen was bleeding out fast.

Yang Yi asked in a panicked voice, “You’re not going to chase him?”

“Chase him? We’ll chase him to the end of hell, of course, that’s what we’ll do! But who’s going to protect you if I leave now?”
