In just a few minutes, a Caucasian man in his forties appeared. Judging from the exhaustion on his face, he was most likely the doctor. He walked around Yang Yi and Kate, looked down at Kate, then looked back at Yang Yi.

“What’s this?” the doctor asked.

“She’s my friend. She was injured a few days ago and went through surgery, but the wound is opening up again. Please do a checkup and treat her.”

“Ughh!” The doctor suddenly groaned in frustration before rubbing his eyes, “It’s already past my scheduled shift end time! Why aren’t you going to a hospital?”

Without backing down from the doctor lashing out, Yang Yi asserted, “Sir, I’m willing to pay five thousand pounds. Upfront! In cash! Please, whatever you do, don’t call the police.”

The doctor adjusted his glasses and switched to a more rational tone, “I will treat her wounds, but you have to leave this place once I’m done. Let me be clear, hospitalization won’t be happening here.”

“No problem. We’ll leave once you are finished with the surgery,” Yang Yi quickly agreed since he wasn’t expecting to stay long anyway.

The doctor nodded, “Of course. Bring her to the office first. I need to examine her wounds.”

Once the two had arranged a deal, Kate was quickly left inside the office alone with the doctor. However, just before Yang Yi was about to sit down and wait outside the office, the doctor came out before doing anything.

“Her case is quite simple, but as you mentioned earlier…”

Without even letting the doctor finish, Yang Yi withdrew his bag and handed him a stack of notes.

“Yes, that’s five thousand right there. I’ll pay first,” he said compliantly, and the doctor quickly got to work after he took the cash.

The transaction itself was illegal, to say the least, but at least it was efficient and justifiable from a humanistic point-of-view.

Yang Yi decided to wait in the lounge. After an hour, Kate was pushed out of the room by the doctor, who, even after having saved a life, didn’t seem to show any emotion at all.

“For a quick recovery, my advice would be to get her a good nurse, go somewhere clean and have her take regular medication,” the doctor said. It was routine advice.

“Thank you,” said Yang wearily, “I’ll take your advice. Is it possible for me to get the medication  here?”

The doctor shook his head silently and returned the wheelchair-bound Kate to Yang Yi. As he gestured towards the door, it was clear that he had no intention of offering any help beyond what was paid for.

In disappointment, Yang Yi walked out as the nurse helped opened the exit. He couldn’t think of a place that he could go, so instead, he just wandered aimlessly while pushing Kate’s wheelchair around.

“Where can we go?” Kate asked weakly, to which Yang Yi replied with an equally powerless voice, “I have no idea…”

Not knowing where to head to next, Yang Yi and Kate stopped moving. They looked around in search of anything which could potentially aid in their survival. Or, rather the truth was the two were simply looking around to try to remove themselves from the horrible state they were in, even for just a short period of time.

A man wearing a suit was walking in their direction. He was holding a suitcase in his left hand and was moving at a fast pace. The man was probably rushing to get home since it was around the time when people headed home.

When the suited man walked past Yang Yi, he suddenly withdrew something from his hand and swung it at Yang Yi, who was pushing the wheelchair and walking at a depressingly slow pace.

But to the suited man’s surprise, Yang Yi lunged forward and dodged the incoming blade. It was extremely close though. The blade almost made contact with Yang Yi’s carotid artery, a streak of blood appeared on his neck. However, only a bit of skin was taken off by the sudden attack.

The suited man, who seemed quite perplexed by his initial failure, didn’t pause and continued his assault. He quickly turned around and aimed towards Yang Yi’s back, a movement which Yang Yi was not quick enough to react to.

Before Yang Yi was able to turn around, the sound of something crashing to the ground came from behind him. As Yang Yi turned to look behind him, he noticed the hitman was suddenly lying flat on the ground and his body was spasming. Further away from him was the nurse from earlier holding a zap gun in her hand.

There was a distance of around ten meters between Yang Yi and the exit of the clinic. How in the world did the nurse have time to leave the clinic and shoot the hitman from behind? By the time the hitman charged towards Yang Yi, the nurse had already fired the shot.

It was like a magic show. Three people suddenly appeared inside the clinic. One of them was the doctor who had treated Kate’s wound earlier, the other two were the nurse and the incapacitated hitman. Yang Yi wasn’t too worried, though. Judging from the fact that the two of them came out from the clinic, Yang Yi was certain that they were definitely not affiliated with each other.

Despite the hitmen’s body spasming on the ground, the nurse quickly walked towards him and delivered another non-fatal shot. The nurse waved her hand towards Yang Yi, and as Yang Yi walked closer, she quickly grabbed Yang Yi’s head and turned it to the side. Seeing that Yang Yi’s wound was nothing but a scratch, the nurse simply let go of Yang Yi and focused on the hitman.

Without a word of explanation to Yang Yi and Kate, the nurse and the doctor proceeded to carry the hitman back to the clinic. Yang Yi, who had only just figured out what happened, quickly pushed Kate’s wheelchair and followed them to the surgery room

As the doctor and the nurse entered the surgery room, they threw the hitman’s body onto an operation table and strapped him effortlessly onto it.

There was too much going on to even try to understand, Yang Yi decided that there wasn’t much he could do besides saying his prayers.

The doctor smiled mysteriously at Yang Yi, then quickly called a number from his phone.

“I did my task,” the doctor said on the phone as he winked at Yang Yi, “Please, come over if you wish. The person you want has been captured.”

After the doctor said that, he quickly hung up the call. He then asked Yang Yi in a slightly curious voice, “That was a pretty clean dodge. You knew he was going to strike you beforehand? Honestly, I had no idea that he was going to do that.”

Yang Yi tried to recall the deadly moment from before and then he shook his head and answered timidly, “I actually didn’t. It’s just that I remembered seeing his face. Instead of having my throat slit from behind, I thought it was better if I chose to act a little paranoid and take two steps back.”

“You’ve seen this man?” The doctor asked in fascination, but the sound of footsteps suddenly came from behind Yang Yi. It was Danny and a group of his men entering the clinic.

As his eyes switched back and forth between the captured hitman and the slightly wounded Yang Yi, Danny smiled in satisfaction. “Not bad,” he nodded his head in approval, “You all did pretty well.”

“If I may say so,” the doctor came in and shook hands vigorously with Danny, “This young man did remarkably well. Is he new?”

“No, he’s just bait,” Danny said and quickly shook his head.

“Oh?,” the doctor raised an eyebrow, “I thought he was one of your recruits.”

After lightly chuckling at the doctor’s comment, Danny quickly turned towards the hitman who was tied to the sickbed. Then, Danny walked to Yang Yi and said in a much more stern voice, “Since you helped get him here in this place, Yang Yi, I’ll ask you to help Doctor James with the rest of the job. Remember, my only requirement is to keep him alive.”

“Glad to be of service,” Dr. James smiled and saluted.
