Basically, what just happened was a typical tactic of ensnaring a prey.

It was actually very simple. Yang Yi took Kate out of the hotel with him and lured out the Destroyers. The Dark Knights then set up ambushes at the train station, the Southampton clinics and anywhere that Yang Yi would potentially go. Or to put it even more simply, Yang Yi was luring the Destroyers and making them follow them into layers upon layers of traps.

And now, someone had fallen into the trap because they couldn’t hold back when they saw Yang Yi outside the very ordinary-looking clinic.

There was something that happened that Yang Yi didn’t expect though. The ambush was not executed by someone within the Dark Knights. Anyway, it wasn’t like it was ever stated that the Dark Knights only associated with people of Chinese ethnicity.

As Dr. James politely gestured them to the exit, Danny, Yang Yi, and Kate left the operation room. They sat down in the waiting room and talked about what just happened.

“Apparently you dodged a knife like you had eyes in the back of your head. How did you do that?” Danny asked while yawning and stretching.

The doctor asked the same question just a few minutes ago. Honestly, Yang Yi didn’t think what he did was so surprising that even Danny would think to mention it.

“I’ve seen that man before. That’s why I took precaution and suddenly lunged forward when I walked past him,” Yang Yi answered as straightforwardly as he could.

“You’ve seen him? Explain yourself.”

“Well, I saw him when I was purchasing the train tickets at London Station. He was standing right behind me in line, and I was very alert when I was at the station because I thought that was the place that I was most likely to be attacked. And I remembered then, he was wearing a shirt, a pair of jeans and a pair of sports shoes at the time.”

“And?”

“Just a while ago when I walked past him, I thought to myself that there was no reason why I would see the same man I saw at London station like this in Southampton. He had also put on a different set of clothes. His hair color was changed. Even his appearance was slightly different. I can’t express this in words clearly, but it’s almost impossible to recognize the same person if he made some minor changes here and there.”

“Yes, no hitman would be dumb enough to appear in front of you two times looking the exact same way. What I am confused about is how you managed to recognize him.”

“He was wearing the same shirt he had on when I saw him in London station, and on the shirt’s collar was a small coffee or sauce stain. I remembered seeing that at both London and Southampton, so I made a logical decision and was extra cautious when I saw that man for the second time.”

“Okay... I honestly didn’t think you were capable of doing something like that,” Danny said in a rather surprised voice, but his amazement seemed genuine this time

Seeing that Danny was genuinely impressed, Yang Yi decided to seize this opportunity. “I think I’m what they call a genius,” he responded cheekily. “Do you see how much potential there is in me now? You can’t simply find a genius anywhere, can you? What do you say? I might be the last one you get to recruit in a very long time.”

Danny didn’t seem to be persuaded by that. Instead, he burst out in laughter, “Ha! Genius! I’ve seen too many of them! Try Oxford or Yale. You can find a bucketload of geniuses if you go to any famous school. Those geniuses are specialists in all kinds of fields, but answer me this – how many of them became spies?”

Danny was technically right. There were a lot of geniuses in the world that possessed all kinds of expertise and talents. A genius might be rare on the street, but that just meant you needed to go somewhere specific to look for them. Of course, Yang Yi knew that, but his pride wouldn’t allow him to be shut down so blatantly.

“They probably just didn’t think of it. You never know. Maybe I’m just a more unique type of genius,” Yang Yi argued, but Danny was shaking his head even more.

“You might be a greater man than you are now if you weren’t so smart, Yang Yi. If you are in fact a genius, I would actually think less of you.”

“Why?” Yang Yi asked obviously upset.

“First of all, the intelligent ones are often lazy. A genius can show commitment if he is doing something he is interested in, but being a spy is anything but interesting. Do you know how difficult it is to be a spy, especially one that can fight? Trust me, most ‘intellectuals’ don’t have what it takes to undergo the necessary training. A high IQ is good and all, but what’s most important is willpower, determination and tolerating what most can’t. Are you up for the hardship ahead of you?”

“I do! I promise you!” Yang Yi persisted while trying to sound as convincing as possible, but Danny had already made his decision.

“Save your confidence for now,” Danny said uninterestedly, “You’ll start to understand what I mean when you begin training.”

Yang Yi decided to ask another question which he still wasn’t able to figure out, “Captain, how did you protect us? Did you follow us the entire way? I couldn’t even find anyone that looked like an escort!”

“Well, about that,” Danny smirked as he tapped lightly on Yang Yi’s shoulder, “I didn’t send anyone.”

“What? What do you mean you didn’t send anyone?”

Danny shrugged his shoulders and explained, “Hitmen never engage in direct combat. In most cases, they only strike when you least expect it. Sending men wasn’t necessary and it was more likely to expose our plans to the enemies. So, I decided that it would be better if you two traveled by yourselves.”

It turned out that Kate’s concern was legitimate. Having discovered the truth, Yang Yi felt his legs start shaking again.

“I thought we were guarded on the way… S**t! Sweet mother... s**t! You a**hole!” Yang Yi cursed, but Danny responded with an unbothered voice.

“The hitmen would retreat if we sent too many people with you. Think about it. They wouldn’t attack when you were near the restaurant; they weren’t going to do it at the train station either since there were too many people. They wouldn’t do it on the train since it’s an enclosed space. Come on, what are you afraid of? The only locations they could attack were all covered by our traps!”

“Hey! F**k off!” Yang Yi yelled out as he tried to suppress the urge to throw a punch at Danny, “Ju…  Don’t try that s**t with me! What if there was an accident? What if some jackass thought it was convenient to attack us at the station?

“Bait needs to have the resolve to be bait. Don’t you get it? I didn’t force you into this, you did this to yourself. What else is there to be said?” Danny laughed, then patted Yang Yi’s shoulder again.
