Chapter 16: Formidable Tiger Soul

“AAAAHHHHH~~~~~~~~~~!”

A sharp and penetrating fearful scream bounced around the cavern, as if a thunderclap exploded and reverberated.

So loud that Wang Xiong’s eardrums burst in extreme pain.

However, this time, didn’t yell at Qinghuan at all, because Wang Xiong also saw the extremely strange images.

It was a tree. A leafless, only black branched tree, which looked to have gone through a great change. Of course, this was not the crucial point. What’s important was that there were seventy two fruits tied to the tree.

Seventy two fruits?

No, it’s should be more accurate to say that they were seventy-two human heads.

Seventy-two human heads grew on the tree.

Some of heads were even covered with muddy blood. During the time that Qinghuan screamed, the heads trembled slightly from the vibration, and they swayed from their hairs attached to the branches.

These were not heads which hung on the tree. Rather, they grew from the branches. Each sharp and pointed end of the branches were linked to the heads’ hair.

Seventy-two human heads swayed lightly.

Of course, this was still not considered terrifying. What was terrifying was that these seventy-two human heads’ eyes were opened. Each eyeball seemed as if they could move. Seventy-two human heads stared at Wang Xiong, while even more bitter resentment appeared on Regional Princess Qinghuan’s face.

Live human heads?

Growing on the trees?

Regional Princess Qinghuan was indeed formerly a greenhouse flower, how could she have seen such a terrifying scene?

“Plop!”

One human head seemed to have ripened and suddenly fell from the tree. It tumbled at the two people’s feet.

“AAHH~~~~~~~~!” Qinghuan shrieked. She shrieked as she threw herself into Wang Xiong’s bosom. It seemed as if only in his embrace was there a bit of a sense of security.

Because Qinghuan finally saw clearly what the ‘ball’ was that she previously stepped on.

It was a ‘ripened’ human head.

A ‘ripened’ human head which fell on the ground. At the moment, the ground was actually filled with hundreds to thousands of rolling heads.

Each and every head was filled with blood.

So much so that each of these human heads seemed to be pulsing still?

“I died so miserably!” That human head which had recently fallen from the tree and tumbled not too far from Wang Xiong spoke in a mournful voice.

“Don’t come over here, aaah, don’t come over here!” Regional Princess Qinghuan hopped in fright in Wang Xiong’s arms.

“Humph! A lamenting soul wants to frighten this lord?” Wang Xiong’s eyes actually chilled.

“Bang!” With a kick, Wang Xiong sent that human head rolling towards him flying far away.

And in regards to that branch above them from which the head fell, although a human head had already ripened and fell, that branch unexpectedly emitted ray after ray of light blue light. Within the brilliant rays of light, there seemed to be a rumbling, growling sound.

That big tree’s tree trunk actually produced a spherical tumour-like growth all of a sudden, and the tumour-like growth slowly moved from the trunk towards a branch, gradually arriving where the branch was radiating blue light.

At the center of that blue light, a female human head slowly grew once more. This human head looked even more miserable. The face was disfigured, badly mangled, exceptionally scary.

What’s most important was that these heads on the tree all had their eyes opened and were all alive.

“Ah ah, boo hoo, don’t come over here, don’t come over!” Qinghuan wailed in alarm.

Wang Xiong softly pat Regional Princess Qinghuan’s back as he said. “They’re only lamenting souls in human heads, that’s all!”

“Boo hoo hoo!” Qinghuan sobbed as frightened as before.

“Grrrr, grrrr!” The little tiger in Wang Xiong’s bosom stuck its head out. It seemed to have accepted reality and was no longer afraid. Its growl was meant to comfort Qinghuan.

Qinghuan gradually calmed down from her alarmed state. When she calmed down, she then discovered that she was still tucked in Wang Xiong’s bosom and her face immediately reddened. She wanted to push Wang Xiong away, however, thinking of the scene a moment ago, Qinghuan’s complexion paled again.

“It’s ok. They’re just a few lamenting souls, that’s all!” Wang Xiong said to comfort her.

“Mn!” Qinghuan* nodded her head before carefully leaving Wang Xiong’s arms.

(*TN: Sorry, I just got tired of typing ‘Regional Princess’, so I sometimes left her title out. She was always referred to as ‘Regional Princess Qinghuan’ in the original text.)

However, seeing those seventy-two human head ‘fruits’ on the tree, Qinghuan shivered from head to toe once more.

“This, this tree, how can it grow human heads? Are these real human heads?” Regional Princess Qinghuan asked in alarm.

“Of course they’re real heads. Look at their faces, their blood can even be seen. By hosting the lamenting souls, those heads won’t decay, that’s all!” Wang Xiong nodded his head.

“But, how can human heads grow on trees? What kind of tree is this?” Qinghuan responded, as fearful as before.

“It’s this tree’s distinctiveness. Moreover countless numbers of human heads should be buried under its roots. Such strong resentments, these lamenting spirits’ grievances are very deep-seated!” Wang Xiong exposed a trace of amazement.

“Ah, there’s another human head tree over there, and also over there!” Regional Princess Qinghuan’s complexion suddenly changed greatly.

There was more than this one human head tree. Inside this cavern, there seemed to be quite a lot of human head trees growing.

Moreover, at their feet, thousands of human heads spread about, seemingly covering the ground.

Each of these human heads had their eyes opened, exposing an expression of bitter resentment. They looked exceptionally scary.

“I died so miserably!”

“I died full of grievances!”

“I’m full of hate!”

………………………………….

…………………….

…………

The human heads suddenly sounded out their resentments together. Listening to them made one’s hairs stand on ends.

Regional Princess Qinghuan was so scared that she trembled and hid within Wang Xiong’s bosom, not daring to leave.

“Where are the tiger and wolves. What are we doing here?” Qinghuan
