Yan Ge truly looked charming in menswear and even the bandits couldn’t look away. Although she was dressed up as a man, they still brought her up the mountain to dedicate her to their leader that loved males.

As they went up the mountain, Yan Ge was spared the fate of being shut in a firewood room due to her rare ‘looks’.

She was imprisoned in the bedroom of the head of the mountain bandits. When the bandits saw that she was a weak scholar, they did not make things difficult for her and merely threatened to kill her if she stepped out of the room.

Oh, the leader of the mountain bandits was not on the mountain. It would seem that he took a team of people to go rob. Yan Ge waited for the people to leave before she nimbly snuck out through the window. Not only make a full circle around the mountain, but she also managed to capture a bandit. Under all kinds of torture, the guy clearly stated where every trap was located and what the arrangements were on the mountain.

She learned that a book boy was sent up the mountain along with her and was unconscious in the firewood room. The book boy was the weakest guy in the Ming Army and he was nicknamed ‘Sima'. He had that nickname because the guy’s nagging was dreadful.

After handing over a map of the mountain to Sima and appointing a time to attack, Yan Ge returned the bandit leader’s bedroom.

They had probably scored a large haul. That night, the mountain bandits had a celebration party with meat and wine. By the time the bandit leader went back to his room, he was already drunk.

His eyes brightened at the sight of Yan Ge sitting on the bed and immediately threw himself at her.

Yan Ge saw a few shadows of the figures outside the door and didn’t stun the bandit leader right away. Instead, she played a giggly cat and mouse game with him for a while and then snapped his neck.

A knock on the door sounded at this time.

Yan Ge was startled and hurriedly dragged the leader’s body under the bed.

She had no time to reach the door before it was opened.

The lights and candles in the room went out as early as when Yan Ge snapped the leader’s head.

She could not see who the person in the dark and assumed it was a mountain bandit. Imitating the bandit’s leader’s voice, she scolded in a low voice: “Roll out.”

Not only did the person not roll out, but they also threw themselves towards Yan Ge’s voice.

The cold light of the dagger flashed in the darkness. Fortunately, Yan Ge hid in time or she would have been killed by the man.

Her heart trembled. Not knowing if this person was a friend or foe, she unconsciously evaded the attacks.

She had dispensed medicine in the kitchen. While it was a success on those bandits that feasted, a fish must have escaped the net. Yan Ge worried that the signal to attack would be released while the barbarians were growing suspicious. When facing the attacker before her, decided to cut the gordian knot.1

Her hand came up empty when she wanted to pull the dagger from her shoes. Then she belatedly remembered how she gifted it to the emperor.

Neither one wished to alarm the people outside. They silently attacked each other in the dark with fierce moves meant to end the fight as soon as possible.

Yan Ge noticed from a glance that the bandits standing at the doorway had disappeared and she was slightly agitated. She might have slowed down for the other person managed to grab her hand. Immediately, she retreated and spoke in a low voice: “For what reason has Xiongtai[brother] come here?”

The other party was obviously startled: "Yan Ge?"

This voice is too familiar.

Yan Ge was stunned. Is this guy Emperor Yuan?

Why has the esteemed emperor come to a mountain bandits’ den?

Not waiting for Yan Ge to respond, Emperor Yuan’s look turned fierce as he interrogated her angrily: "Are you the leader of the mountain bandits? What about the scholar tied up in your room today?"

1 Cut the gordian knot (快刀斩乱麻—kuài dāo zhǎn luàn má): idiom that means to make a swift and ruthless decision in a complicated situation.
