16 – Extremely Strong Opponent

The day quickly passed and gave way to twilight. Luo You stood at a lookout post of the earth wall. His rose-red eyes reflected the gradually setting sun, brimming with a resplendent radiance.

It was unknown whether it was because their temperaments complemented each other, but the chatter box Ling was fond of pestering the silent Luo You. The more Luo You ignored her, the more lively she was. The girl chased after Luo You the entire day, twittering and chirping. Even seeing Luo You kill a person didn’t gave rise to aversion on her part. Perhaps this was the difference between wilderness residents and city people. After all, death was a constant of the wasteland, and Ling might even have already gotten used to it.

“They’re coming tomorrow, right?” Ling suddenly ran up to Luo You’s side, looked at the distant sun in the horizon with widened eyes alongside Luo You, and said: “Can we still witness such a view?”

The scene of the setting sun happened every day. But Ling’s question was very subtle. She wasn’t asking about the sunset itself, but rather, was asking about their fates.

Right, can we still see it? If we still can, then that at least means that we’re alive. But… can we really live on?

Frankly, Luo You wasn’t sure himself. According to the Cube’s assessment, tomorrow was the time when the enemy team would strike. A team composed of five Evolvers and judged to have an advantage in strength by the Cube. After being attacked by such a team, could they still see the sunset tomorrow? He didn’t know…

He was in a state of contemplation as he watched the setting sun. When suddenly, his body froze, his pupils started enlarging, and his breathing inexplicably started becoming heavy.

Ling was still waiting for Luo You’s reply, when out of nowhere, Luo You grabbed her by the shoulder. Ling looked at Luo You in confusion, asking: “What’s wrong? You…”

The next moment, Ling suddenly felt a tremendous force coming from her shoulder and she was flung backwards. She fell from the top of the earth wall and hit the ground.

Fortunately, the earth wall wasn’t too tall, plus Ling’s physique tempered in the wilderness’ vile environment wasn’t too bad. Therefore, she didn’t succumb to the fall. Still, she had nearly broken her bones. While struggling on the ground, she looked angrily at Luo You on the wall. She was about to ask him why he pushed her down, when something shocking happened.

“Boom!” The sound of bones breaking came along with a terrifying impact and a nearly three meters tall silhouette appeared on the earth wall with a rumble. Even though the silhouette appeared to have the built of a human, yet it was covered in ash-brown fur. The afterglow of the sunset made it seem like the silhouette was burning with a layer of scarlet blood. Its limbs and joints were bulky alike boulders and its explosive muscles bulged alike hills. It resembled… resembled a wolf with a human body!

When the silhouette suddenly jumped onto the earth wall, a devastating force crushed the wall. A residual force smashed into Luo You. The strike from the air compressed into liquid state by the frightening impact set off a turbulent current with a bloody smell. Even though Luo You had used his left arm to withstand a kick and prevent his internal organs from being crushed, but in return, the arm was kicked into the V-shape. His capillaries burst from the overwhelming pressure and blood flowed from his moth, nose, ears and even eyes. All in all, he was in a miserable state.

Luo You fell down together with the earth wall’s debris and crashed heavily into the ground. The heavy force smashed the ground into tatters.

The overwhelmed Ling sat up on the ground and looked at Luo You who had fallen to the side. The reticent youngster’s arm was broken from the kick, his internal organs were injured, and the bandages on his face and especially near his mouth were died red with blood. He kept coughing blood, dyeing the yellow earth on the ground scarlet.

“Run…” Luo You pushed Ling with a trembling hand and bellowing in a husky voice: “Run!”

“Hm? He didn’t die? It seems like you’re an Evolver of the other team.” With a loud bang, the silhouette with the body of a wolf landed in front of Luo You. Its beast-like eyes exuded a strange red light from behind the dust…

Ling still hadn’t recovered her senses from the huge blow. In the previous moment, Luo You and she were watching the setting sun together, in the next moment, Luo You had flung her away in order to protect her. This disparity was just too intense, nearly breaking her nerves. Seeing Luo You being heavily injured, a layer of mist shrouded Ling’s eyes and she tried to crawl towards Luo You to check up on his injuries. However, she was pushed away by Luo You.

Too fast! Truly too fast! Luo You didn’t anticipate that the enemy would strike at such a time. According to the Cube’s prediction, the enemy would arrive forty eight hours after the mission was issued, that is, tomorrow afternoon. However, the enemy was an entire day ahead of schedule.

Furthermore, not only was the enemy’s traveling speed fast, but the strike just now was just too fast! In fact, Luo You should have been capable of avoiding the sneak attack. After all, he had already invested four evolution points into the Dynamic Vision Enhancement. However, the other party had the setting sun at their back when they struck. With his sight greatly impaired by sunlight, plus Ling standing beside him, if he were to avoid the enemy’s sneak attack, then Ling would definitely be crushed by that kick.

Originally, with Luo You’s modus operandi, Ling’s survival should have nothing to do with him. Although he didn’t know why, but in the moment of life and death, his instinctive reaction was to first fling Ling away.

Of course, all this had become irrelevant, at least for the time being! He was faced with a great problem, the enemy had come!

“Hahaha…” The enemy suddenly laughed gloomily and mocked in a beast-like husky voice: “He didn’t die, what a freak.”

Luo You climbed onto his feet with great difficulty. Meanwhile, the survivors in the base heard the commotion and hurried over. But when they saw the three meters tall enemy covered in fur, they became scared witless, even loosing the courage to open fire.

Luo You expressionlessly put the broken bone back in place. His eyes under the shadow of the cloak looked up at the enemy frigidly. While watching the huge wolf-like figure in front of him, he spat a mouthful of blood to the side and said gloomily: “A Werewolf…”

“At first, the redeemed A-rank bloodline was a bit uncomfortable, but after running for a day, I finally feel much better.” Although the Werewolf’s voice was somewhat distorted because of the transformation, but it was still faintly discernible. He spat out white mist from his mouth as he spoke with a malevolent smile: “Let me introduce myself. My name is Yang Feng, the captain of the Predators.”

Luo You’s gaze turned extremely solemn! This group already had its own name and it was such an arrogant name to boot! This was a testament of their strength and experience! Moreover, this Yang Feng revealed that he had redeemed an A-rank Werewolf bloodline!

An A-rank bloodline?! Luo You had difficulty wrapping his head around the fact that he had come across such an enemy. In his own group, five people were newbies, Arnold had gotten two C-rank reward points, and he himself had only gotten one B-rank reward point and several C-class reward points. The second B-rank reward point, which he got after the team mission was issued, should not have been included in this mission’s assessment. Their average level could never match up to an A-rank opponent!

What’s going on?!
