17 – Werewolf Captain

During the time Luo You was in shock, the survivors finally reacted. Immediately after arriving, the captain saw the broken earth wall and the heavily injured Luo You, and immediately realized that the enemy was one of the Evolvers mentioned by Luo You. He sent a person to mount the SUV’s machine gun turret and instructed the rest to enter a combat formation. Finally, he gave the order to open fire.

Intense gunfire sounded immediately after. However, whether it was the gunfire from the traditional firearms in the survivor’s hands or the explosive gunfire from the machine gun turret on the SUV, the bullets just managed to draw an insignificant amount of blood upon hitting Yang Feng before being stuck in the layer between his skin and muscles! The Werewolf’s body had reached such a degree of toughness that it could even resist bullets!

Yang Feng erupted into a murky and husky laughter, and just let the insignificant hail of bullets hit him. Suddenly, the Werewolf faced upwards and burst out with a deafening wolf howl. Immediately after a head-splitting noise, alike two lumps of rusty iron rubbing against each other, sounded. Then, he started to move forward on all fours, and charged at the relatively greatest threat, the SUV, with an unstoppable momentum.

The gunner operating the SUV’s machine gun turret shouted in despair as the Werewolf’s charging speed was so fast that he had no time to escape. The only thing he could do was to pull the trigger until the very end and watch helplessly as death approached.

“Boom!” In the midst of rising flames, the Werewolf bumped into the machine gun turret and the gunner, and turned the man into a steamy meat paste. The powerful force of impact had also ignited the SUV’s fuel tank. A frightening heatwave along with a scorching flame swept everywhere, burning the nearby people and leaving blood blisters all over their bodies, and knocking the more distant people to the ground. In an instant, the place sank into chaos.

When everyone was knocked to the ground alike dominoes by the raging airflow, a resonant gunshot suddenly sounded in the air. Along the trajectory of the projectile, air liquefied by the great pressure and dispersed alike wave spray. The surrounding temperature became boiling hot from the violent friction, and even a piercing whistle was heard from the friction between the projectile and air. The next moment, scarlet blood mist arose amidst the raging flames along with a piercing wolf howl.

Meanwhile, Luo You’s broken arm was used as support and the other arm held the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle, and a choking smoke rose from the black muzzle. This sight was embellished by the distant raging flames.

The captain had previously witnessed the might of the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle. Last night, the Nightmare Leader had lost its combat ability from a single shot by this firearm. The terrifying power was nerve-wrecking. He gazed at the raging fire and said in a husky voice: “Did you kill him?”

“I haven’t!” Luo You’s eyes erupted with a frigid glint and he took out a second projectile. His fingers danced like fairies as he fetched the projectile, unloaded and loaded the sniper rifle, and pulled back the bolt. He smoothly executed all the preparatory work in the blink of an eye. He was about to fire his second shot, when suddenly, a large figure rushed out of the raging fire.

Yang Feng was still in his Werewolf form. His fur was scorched brown by the fire, patches of flames still burnt on him, and black smoke lingered around him. His left wrist, which was quite a few times bulkier than a tank’s cannon, had a nearly half a meter in diameter bloody hole in it, and a mixture of bone residue and flesh fragments spilled out of it. It was a ghastly sight.

Before Luo You could opened fire, Yang Feng approached him at a high speed. At such a close range, Luo You was not sure if he could kill Yang Feng. If his shot were to fail to kill the other party, then Yang Feng’s attack would reach him without reservations. At that point, he would undoubtedly die!

Lacking any other choice, Luo You could only launch an aimless suppressive shot. The projectile had missed Yang Feng by a lot, but it still managed to slow him down, allowing Luo You to quickly retreat by ten meters and pull open a relatively safe distance.

After the distance between them was pulled open by Luo You, Yang Feng didn’t immediately continue with his pursuit. Instead, he looked at the bloody hole on his wrist, then looked at the ferocious-looking sniper rifle in Luo You’s hand and said with a sneer: “A Rail Gun Sniper Rifle? A weapon redeemed with a B-rank reward point, you’re rather wealthy. You must be your team’s strongest Evolver, right? I’m a bit disappointed that you’re a fellow fond of shooting from the distance.”

Luo You didn’t care about the other party’s provocation. His gaze was fixed on Yang Feng. His perception was operating at its peak, taking in a great deal of minute movements in the surroundings and even changes in the earth’s vibrations below his feet.

Luo You sensed that there were no other people who had come to the base. Therefore, it seemed that Yang Feng should have come alone after separating from his team. Even though Luo You wasn’t clear about why this fellow would adopt such a dangerous practice, but he guessed that it should be because he wanted to test his newly redeemed A-rank Werewolf bloodline.

“What’s the matter? Let’s continue!” Yang Feng was crude but not impertinent. Just now, he was fortunate enough that Luo You’s two gunshots hadn’t hit any of his vital points. Although his Werewolf body could already withstand the majority of conventional firearms, but when it came to the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle, which was specialized in coping with large heavily armored targets, he still could not resist it. If by any chance he were to be hit in the heart or the head, then it would be it for him. After all, it was just an A-rank Werewolf bloodline, it didn’t allow him to instantly move sideways. Therefore, he didn’t act rashly.

Luo You first aimed a glance at the survivor base’s military strength. The captain had already led his men to surround Yang Feng, yet nobody dared to step forward. This wasn’t strange at all as their traditional firearms couldn’t pierce the Werewolf’s skin, and the machine gun turret, which could pierce his skin, was destroyed along with the armored vehicle three seconds into opening fire. Even if the number of men was multiplied by one hundred, things would still be the same. This gap in strength was not something that could be compensated with numbers.

Luo You’s team members were no different, not to mention that the fighting strength of the five newbies was not even at the level of the survivor base’s men. They were scared witless, and one of them even had the area around his crotch wet. The fishy stench could even be smelt from far away. The only one who’s fighting strength wasn’t negligible was Arnold, who was still in a coma. However, it wouldn’t make any difference even if he woke up. With just the two C-rank Giant bloodline, which was far too inferior in comparison to the A-rank Werewolf bloodline, if he were to fight, his head would roll on the ground within tree moves.

It was disadvantageous! The layout was too disadvantageous! The base’s maneuvering space was limited! The space was ideal for the meat-grinder-like Werewolf to display his strength, but was terrible for someone like Luo You who had to pull open the distance to fire! If Luo You wanted to win, or to be more precise, if he wanted to have a trace of hope at winning, then there was only a single way!

Without any warning, Luo You turned around and started running. He agilely turned towards the wall, towards the gap opened by Yang Feng’s strike, and jumped inside, before escaping into the wilderness that was gradually being devoured by the night.
