9 – A Fierce Shot

Alike blood staining a death god’s sickle, a rose-red glimmer flickered inside Luo You’s deeply dark eyes. Even though the Nightmare Leader was currently moving at a high speed, but with Luo You’s close to machine-like fine tuned precision, the sniperscope’s crosshair followed the Nightmare Leader’s head without any lagging, firmly locking on it!

Wilderness Survival Code, Article 7: Do not fight mutants head on!

In order to adapt to the vile environment in the wilderness, mutants would often evolve exceedingly strong claws and fangs, which could tear humans apart and crush their bones in the time it took a spark to fly off of a piece of flint. However, these monsters also often had hard shells, rendering ordinary weapons no threat to them, let alone the barbaric moves popular in the medieval times like the wielding of blades and the swinging of fists.

Therefore, the best way to confront mutants was to pull open the distance and then use firearms to wipe them out. Close combat was not a wise choice at all. Luo You was also profoundly aware of this. Therefore, he had made a great investment by redeeming his sole B-level reward point for the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle in his hands.

The technology contained in the sniper rifle could in fact also be attained in the old era. It was essentially a kinetic energy weapon manufactured by using the electromagnetic emission technology. Its source of firepower wasn’t the traditional gun powder or high-pressure gas, but rather, it employed the electromagnetic force of an electromagnetic field.

Its structure was composed of two parallel guide rails, a projectile wedged between the two guide rails, and a power source inserting electric current into the two rails. The current flowed through one guide rail into the projectile before flowing into the other guardrail, giving rise to a strong magnetic field. The interaction between the magnetic field and the electric current gave rise to a powerful Lorentz force, which then propelled the projectile at a very high speed. Theoretically, the projectile could achieve sub-light speed.

In the old era, such a weapon propelled by an electromagnetic force was known as an electromagnetic gun as well as a rail gun.

However, since a C-level reward point could redeem a desert eagle with unlimited ammunition, which was a weapon whose technology surpassed that of the old era, then why was the technological content of a weapon redeemed by a B-level reward point the same as that of the old era?

The answer was very simple. In the old era, rail guns were stationary heavy artilleries. They were usually located on warships and weighed several tons. If they were ground type rail guns located in military bases, then their weight could range from several tens of tons up to a hundred tons.

The weapon in Luo You’s hands, on the other hand, didn’t even weigh twenty kilograms – its weight was equivalent to that of the anti-material rifle from the old era, but its makeup was that of a rail gun. To put it bluntly, it was a handheld rail gun!

Of course, in the end, a sniper rifle was still a sniper rifle, and its might was unlikely to compare to that of a several tens of tons heavy artillery capable of flattening hills, but it still could easily blast apart a tank, let alone the head of a Nightmare. Hard as the head of a mutant may be, would it be as hard as a tank’s armor?

After thoroughly locking onto the Nightmare Leader’s head, Luo You unhesitatingly pulled the trigger.

“Boom!” At this moment, the world seemed to go still, and the air congealed alike cement. A current of burning hot air along with an irresistible force tore through the air and destroyed space, leading the summons of death towards the Nightmare Leader.

Feeling the pressure of death upon it, the Nightmare Leader nearly lost its ability to move as if it was surrounded by tall walls on all sides, forcibly crushing it. However, at the juncture of life and death, the potential in its body swiftly erupted. Under the pressure of death, at the cost of its muscles being torn, the Nightmare Leader stopped its forward running inertia, flapped its wings, and pounced in the opposite direction, all the while roaring.

With the sound of the surface of the ground being torn, a black bullet hole smaller than a fingernail appeared on the ground. However, with this insignificant bullet hole as the center, countless cracks spread outwards alike a spider web. As if being hit by meteors, deep ditches covered the ground in the blink of an eye.

On the other hand, while on the brink of death, the Nightmare Leader didn’t manage to withdraw its entire body. Its right wing along with half of its shoulder were gone, blasted away by the friction from the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle’s projectile. As if crushed to powder, nothing was left of the missing wing and shoulder. The Nightmare howled miserably as it struggled on the ground.

With their leader seriously wounded, even though the remaining Nightmares became leaderless and had not received any further orders, but these monster still possessed their beastly instincts. With their leader wounded, their ferocity was roused. They no longer cared for the people in the motorcade as they single-mindedly rushed at Luo You on the hill.

With the size and weight of a anti-material rifle, the sniper rifle could exhibit the might of a small naval artillery. There was nothing to complain in terms of the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle’s might. But like Luo You’s desert eagle, it also was not without shortcomings.

The first shortcoming was the issue of ammunition. The the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle with infinite ammunition required a BBB-level reward point to be redeemed, but Luo You could not afford it and had to redeem the B-level one instead. One C-level reward point could redeem five bullets. To Luo You, he was not shooting bullets, but reward points.

The second shortcoming was the noise. The noise produced when firing the sniper rifle was louder than a clap of thunder. It could be heard ten kilometers away. So long as the trigger was pulled, even an idiot would know the position of the marksman. Therefore, the sniper rifle was unsuitable for covert operations and assassinations. This firearm was meant for sniping large targets as well as assaulting fortified positions. Using the internet slang of the old era, it was ‘used for defeating bosses’.

Although the shot hadn’t achieve Luo You’s goal, that is, it didn’t manage to one-shot the Nightmare Leader, but at least it had dealt the Nightmare Leader a heavy injury. The next course of action was to take care of the nine Nightmares rushing over.

Luo You put away his Rail Gun Sniper Rifle. Although Luo You could kill several of the ordinary Nightmares due to being far away from them and them not having their leader’s explosiveness, killing one of them with each shot. But as mentioned, every shot was equivalent to the depletion of one fifth of a C-level reward point. To keep shooting would be too heart-breaking. Furthermore, he only had ten bullets on him, and the remaining bullets still would have to be used to take care of the enemy team.

After Luo You put away the sniper rifle, he took out the desert eagle. The level-4 Dynamic Vision made it easy for him to seize the trajectory of the Nightmares’ movements. He fired three shots in succession and directly blasted apart the heads of three Nightmares.

After firing three shots, the desert eagle’s barrel became as red as a branding iron. The drawback of a C-level unlimited ammunition weapon was apparent at this moment. However, Luo You was already well acquainted with this firearm and was not surprised with its performance.

According to Luo You’s experience, the firearm had to be cooled for forty seconds after being fired three times. Also, the wilderness at night was exceptionally cold, which substantially reduced the cooling period to around twenty five to thirty seconds.

As a result, Luo You rushed down the hill, only not to meet the Nightmares, but rather dashed towards the side. His train of though was very simple – to meet up with the people in the motorcade! As well as to use this time to cool down the desert eagle!
