Chapter 59: Diary — You still have me.【Catch】

“So, you’re the real Ye Zhen Zhen.”

Ye Zhen Zhen sat on the sofa, her phone loosely held up against her ear. Zuo Yi was still explaining particulars on the other end of the call. “After Li Su took you away, she was worried about how to explain things to you; she hadn’t expected you to have lost your memory after you woke up. This saved her a lot of trouble.”

Ye Zhen Zhen was stunned and then asked, “Then…the case ends like that?”

“Mn. You can return to live at the Ye Mansion. Later, Lawyer Qian should contact you in order to handle the formalities regarding inheritance. The police will tell the public the truth about Ye Hong Sheng’s murder. As for this matter regarding the twin, we do not plan to tell the public.”

“Got it…”

“Then I won’t disturb you any longer. Goodbye.” Zuo Yi hung up once he finished speaking. Ye Zhen Zhen stayed as if she was still talking on the phone for a while before dropping her hand.

These past months have really been too eventful. If she had just woken up to discover her inheritance exceeded a billion yuan, she would have felt like she scored a jackpot. Now, however, she simply felt a jumbled mess of emotions.

Because of that inheritance, her grandfather and Li Jia Jia both died. Qin Kong, her uncle, and her aunt, as well as Wang Er Gou, were about to be sentenced by the law. The Ye Mansion was already completely empty, so even if she returned, what could she do?

She breathed in through her nose, suddenly missing Dr. Ji. As long as she could stay by his side, she wouldn’t feel lonely in a world so large.

She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was not three o’clock yet. Dr. Ji finished work at four-thirty. If there were too many patients, he might be busy till the evening. Restraining herself from rushing toward the hospital, Ye Zhen Zhen turned on the television in the living room. Although there was only a commercial showing, she felt that it was more lively than before.

She sat on the sofa, pondering. She then ran to grab the locked case she brought back from Li Jia Jia’s room and returned to the living room to fiddle with it. After casually testing out a few numbers, the lid still did not move a single jot, discouraging Ye Zhen Zhen.

Wasn’t there supposed to be telepathy between twins? Why couldn’t she receive the secret code?!

【Qixi, are you ready?】1

This line from the television accidentally floated into Ye Zhen Zhen’s ears. She subconsciously glanced up and saw a man wink on the screen that exact moment.

That body wash brand Emperor Mo endorses was releasing a Qixi-edition product.

Ye Zhen Zhen curled her lips. A body wash could be styled in so many ways; the manufacturers were truly making money. She inwardly cursed them out while noting the day the item hit the market.

Her gaze once again fell on the locked case. That split second, she felt like she telepathically linked to Li Jia Jia!

She impatiently used her phone to look up Emperor Mo’s birthday and then inputted in the corresponding digits. Ka–la— the lid sprung open.

Ye Zhen Zhen thought, at this moment, that Emperor Mo was definitely Li Jia Jia’s true love.

With sincerity brimming in her heart, she opened that box. Inside, there wasn’t any precious treasures like she had imagined. There wasn’t even any porn, just a simple diary.

Li Jia Jia’s Diary.

Ye Zhen Zhen frowned and took out the diary. Although the writing on the cover was not good-looking, the handwriting was neat. From a look, she could tell it came from a child’s hand.

She contemplatively flipped through the pages.

【Today Gang Ya Mei said she saw me at a theme park. I know she wants to show off her dad taking her to A City’s largest theme park. I’m definitely not jealous!】

【Today I asked mom. So, it turns out that I really do have a twin sister. But why didn’t they want me????】

【Today I took a test and scored first. If this continues, will I be able to test into A City’s best middle school?】

【What use is passing the exam?! Why can’t I go to A City??? Because she is there????】

【Today when I went to class, the two girls who sat next to me were talking about Mo Zhen’s concert. They made plans to go together this weekend. This is his first concert…will he come to D City next?】

【Three more years. After I grow older, I will go to A City and study at the best university. I will become the best. You, the one that snatched everything away from me, I will take it back.】

【This is too funny. She actually says that the greatest happiness for a girl is to find a man to marry. On this earth, what can you rely on? A man??】

【Money and your own power.】

……

Rather than calling this a diary, it would be better to call this a record of Li Jia Jia’s mood. Ye Zhen Zhen looked at the last entry, tears already streaming down her cheeks.

She was now definitely convinced that she had a special twin connection because each and every word in the diary easily affected her. Li Jia Jia’s heart held unwillingness, resentment, and dedication—these bubbled forth from between the words and lines, allowing Ye Zhen Zhen to follow the emotional turmoil her twin had faced.

A missing memory floated to the forefront of her mind now because of her chaotic mental state.

That night six years ago, when she had crawled out of the car, Li Jia Jia just happened to be looking at her. She felt like her own expression at that time must have been one of extreme shock because the face looking at hers was exactly identical.

Four months ago, on that night, she had once again been shocked when she saw Li Jia Jia lying on the ground. But this time, Li Jia Jia could not open her eyes to look at her.

Seated on the sofa, Ye Zhen Zhen hugged the diary close, sobbing uncontrollably. She reckoned that even Lady Meng Jiang would blush with shame if she were faced with that imposing display.2

Ji Zhe Yan was some distance away from the door when he heard world-shaking sobs come from inside. With lightning speed, he opened the door and caught sight of Ye Zhen Zhen sitting on the sofa, snot and tears running down her face.

“What’s wrong?” Ji Zhe Yan walked up with furrowed brows. Not standing still,  Ye Zhen Zhen threw herself at him. Embracing her tightly to his chest, Ji Zhe Yan consoled her by patting her back. “Gou Dan’er, don’t cry. What do you want to eat tonight; I’ll make it for you.”

“Spa–spaghetti…” Despite crying enough to the point where she was gasping for air, she tenaciously announced the dish name. “Peppercorn…”

Ji Zhe Yan couldn’t help but laugh. “You want small steak, right? There just so happens to be some in the refrigerator still.”

“O–okay…” Dinner was probably the cure that revitalized Ye Zhen Zhen. She gradually stopped crying. Ji Zhe Yan saw her calm down some and lovingly kissed her swollen eyes. “So, what happened to cause you to cry like that?”

Ji Zhe Yan’s suit was already wrinkled from Ye Zhen Zhen’s embrace, but she still didn’t let him go and used his chest to wipe away the snot and tears on her face. “Dr. Ji, I have no family. In this world, I’m alone…” Ye Zhen Zhen wanted to cry some more upon saying this.

Ji Zhe Yan’s eyes shifted. He leaned down to nibble on her lips. “You still have me.”

You still have me.

Ye Zhen Zhen’s heart was touched. She hugged him even tighter. “Dr. Ji, you definitely cannot leave me.”

In regards to ‘money and your own power,’ Ye Zhen Zhen wanted to find a man to marry even more.

Ji Zhe Yan used a bit of strength to press Ye Zhen Zhen down. “Mn…”

He originally wanted to say something, but when he saw Ye Zhen Zhen’s kitten-like face, his movements slowed down slightly. “You..go wash your face first.”

……

Washing her face as fast as she possibly could, Ye Zhen Zhen sprinted back into the living room, only to find Ji Zhe Yan already preparing dinner in the kitchen.

“Dr. Ji~” Hugging Ji Zhe Yan from behind, Ye Zhen Zhen rubbed herself against his back coquettishly.

Ji Zhe Yan’s movements paused. He turned to glance at her. “Be obedient; don’t make trouble. Food first.”

Ye Zhen Zhen continued acting coquettish. “But I want to eat Dr. Ji first.”

Ji Zhe Yan: “…:

He untied his apron and carried Ye Zhen Zhen into the bedroom.

“If you’re hungry later, don’t blame me.” After saying this, Ji Zhe Yan kissed Ye Zhen Zhen’s lips once more, with care and softness. Ye Zhen Zhen gradually melted into this kiss, pulling herself closer to this man. She only wanted to be closer to him.

“Do you still feel sore like the first time?” Ji Zhe Yan brushed Ye Zhen Zhen’s sweaty hair away from her forehead, lightly kissing the top of her head.

Ye Zhen Zhen shook her head, saying, “No, very comfortable…I like doing this with Dr. Ji.”

Ji Zhe Yan paused for a moment before somewhat helplessly nipping her delicate earlobe. “You really are…”

The rest of his words disappeared in another tangle of tongue and lips.

By the time they were done, it was nearly eight o’clock. Ye Zhen Zhen was laying on her side, gasping for precious air, with her arm tightly wrapped around Ji Zhe Yan’s waist.

Ji Zhe Yan saw her tiredly close her eyes and sighed quietly. “If you don’t want to starve to death, let go.”

“Oh…” Ye Zhen Zhen was indeed very hungry, but she didn’t want to let go of Ji Zhe Yan. “It would be nice if small steak can pan fry itself.”

“If such is the case, then Gou Dan’er, you don’t have the last value in life on this earth.”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

She angrily said, “I’m called Ye Zhen Zhen! I remember everything!”

“Mn.” Ji Zhe Yan faintly agreed.

Ye Zhen Zhen was unhappy. “How come you’re not surprised?”

“Gou Dan’er is surprised?”

……

Ye Zhen Zhen curled her lips and decided to not talk about this any more. Ji Zhe Yan let her hug him for a while longer, but he felt that really should be making dinner. Otherwise this little one might starve to death in silence.

“Gou Dan’er?” Ji Zhe Yan pushed the person hugging him away and prepared to sit up.

Ye Zhen Zhen nuzzled into his chest, whispering, “Dr. Ji, the one that died should have actually been me…”

Ji Zhe Yan’s hands stiffened. He then hugged her close, frowning. “Don’t say such things again.”

Although he was a doctor and touched death nearly every day, he also didn’t want to hear that word come from her mouth.

“Dr. Ji…” Ye Zhen Zhen’s voice carried a faint sob within it. “I will finish university for her. I will do my best to graduate…”

“Mn.” Ji Zhe Yan bowed his head and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “I’m taking a vacation the day after tomorrow. I made plans to eat with my parents; you’re coming, too.”

“Ah…” This news was too sudden. Although she had already seen her future in-laws, that…that situation was better off not happening!

Ji Zhe Yan smiled and kissed her cheek. “I plan to formally introduce you to them and tell them of our marriage while we’re at it.”

“Okay…” The word ‘marriage’ made Ye Zhen Zhen shyly duck her head.

“Gou Dan’er, if you don’t graduate, our wedding day will have no choice but to be postponed indefinitely.”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

In order to marry, she would stake everything!

Qixi, the Double Seven Festival, the evening of the seventh of the seventh lunar month; Chinese Valentine’s Day, also known as Tanabata, when the Weaving Maid (Orihime) and Cowherd (Hikoboshi) are allowed their annual meeting.  She wept with more (apparent) grief than Lady Meng Jiang, who supposedly wept after she learnt of her husband’s passing. – Phi
