The next day, Gray was at the arena ready to do his first fight. The battle was taking place under a giant tent. It reminds Gray of an outside Circus. Thinking about it, he remembered he never made it to circus Solei. Gale and Empress were in the stands watching. Growlithe and Midnight were on their way but would most likely make it at the end.
A small greeting by A Nidoking in the stands. It was old and powerful. Next to it, above it, were two chairs. Another Nidoking younger and slightly fatter. To the other side was a Nidoqueen. She looked pregnant Gray thought.
Gray was frustrated. The way the rules worked in this place was nuts. Any fighter was subjected to an increase in their combat stage or a decrease in their combat stage depending on the crowd. Gray was subjected to 3 Speed and Defense buffs. Each.
The worst thing was the cardholders. A male Lobunny and a female Hippowdon. Both Pokemon had passed by Gray and used Charm and Taunt on him. Resisting both effects took away a good bit of his aura.
"The first fight of the day will be a new challenger. The Flying Darkness Gray!!" The few flying Pokemon cheered for Gray. The others just gave nods. The referee pointed to the other side, "in this corner we have the spinning Terror ...Baltoy!" The crowd went wild. The Baltoy floated above the ground. "Begin!"
"Hah!" Gray used Bulk Up to help give himself a little Defense back. He watched the Pokemon do a little of the same.
It glowed with a shine using Harden. It then started to use Rapid Spin as it came flying towards Gray. The ground kicking up dust. Retracting his wings, gray braced himself for the attack.
"Bam!" with the added defensive buff it hit Gray like a sledgehammer. 'Well this is the starting of this tourney power level.' Gray thought about the escalation. "Tch, there are stronger waiting after you. Hah!" Smacking the Pokemon on the head he watched as it spun into the dirt.
"Tut, tut, tut, tut," as it dug into the dirt Gray used Quick attack with another Bulk Up. His fist increasing in size just a little just before he made contact.
"Bam!" He struck the Pokemon in the back. "Dong!" A bell sound rang out from the Pokemon. Feeling a sense of dread from come over him, Gray jumped back just in time. Baltoy glowed and exploded outward with power.
The arena was covered in dust. "Bloody thing used Self Destruct. Wait doesn't that mean I won?" Seeing the dust clear Gray was surprised to see the Baltoy float up. "Tch, Guess not." Paying closer attention he saw a health bar appear above its head. It was at the halfway mark. 'Guess everything is not like the games. I should not forget that in the future. It might cost me my life one day. But some moves do work that way though.'
"Bwwwoom," The Baltoy turned and fired an arc of a prismatic beam towards Gray. It used Psybeam. The further Gray was, the less powerful it seemed. After dodging another one Gray used Agility and dashed behind it. Seeing a shine again, Gray thought it used Harden.
"Got you now!" Gray yelled. The head rotated and it moved to Tackle him. "Bam," Gray slid back realizing that it was stronger than before he treads cautiously. Baltoy started spinning again.
When it came around this time, Gray jumped above it and floated up with a little psychic power. As it turned in the ground coming back around, Gray came straight down with the force of the speed. With the added force his leg started to glow.
"Mega Kick!" His foot caught the center of Baltoy's chest. it went sailing out of the arena and hit a wall. Grabbing his foot and hopping around the arena, Gray realized that was a stupid idea. "Ow ow ow ow ow ow." Raising his foot to his face he started blowing on it. "What the heck was with that Defense change?"

"Geez, that's smart. Roost!" Recovering a little Gray settled down.

"Dammit!" Gray gritted his teeth. His defense was now at zero. Any hit he received would go directly to his health. 'Screw it gonna have to switch over to more Speed now.'
"Our next fighter," the referee started to say. "Is the one and only, king of the south forest... Smoky!" Out walked a Ursaring. Several buffs went over it. None of them were debuffs. Gray saw it become a little slender and its muscles tightened. When it stepped into the arena it started to shrink to about 6 foor or so. Covered in light it looked like a human.
Its bear belly turned into an 8 pack with the gold ring still visible. On its broad shoulders the fur was still there with the freels. Up to the top of its head, it looked like a man with a half hood on. The tail was gone and below the waist, it had fur type pants. For the feet, it was covered in fur. The toes were defintely still the claw feet.
"Begin!" The referee yelled.
Smoky came running up with its claws raised. Gray used Agility and sidestepped the Pokemon. "Boom!" The claws hit were Gray just stood and made a giant hole. Gray went wide-eyed at the attack. The Ursaring picked up its hine legs and kicked Gray with high Speed. Way more than Gray accounted for.
"Kuff," Gray caughed up blood as he went flying back in the dirt. Before he could even stand up Smoky was already on him. Gray watched as it's claws glowed in dark aura.
Gray knew what that was. Feint Attack. It wouldn't miss him from what he could tell. 'Calm Mind.' Using it Gray felt his mind clear a little as his Special Defense and Attack went up. It wouldn't help with the attack but it would help with the later of the fight.
"Rip!" The claws cut right through Gray creating two long gashes down his chest. His health plummeted to the bottom. "Thump," Gray was knocked off his knees into the dirt. "Kuff!" Spitting blood into the dirt Gray felt angry.

"Thwack, Thwack," The Ursaring reeled back and wanted scream in pain but couldn't. It never felt pain as strong as this before. "Huff, Recover." Feeling a good bit of his energy leave him, Gray felt the relief wash over him.
"Thump," the Ursaring fell to its knees. Gray did not pass up the chance. Looking up in the air he fired off a little bit of fire Burning the top of the tent covering. "Sunny Day," as the energy intensified in the arena. Gray held his hands out at the Pokemon. As it stood up on shaky legs, he fired at its back. "Solar Beam!"
"Argghhh," Smoky yelled as the energy sent him hurtling out of the arena into a wall. Gray stepped forward and pushed the attack deeper into the Pokemon. He kept pulling in the sunlight to add to his power. A bit of it was used to recover his energy. Something he learned from the memories of Moltres. Watching its health go down, Gray used another move to make himself stronger again. 'Calm Mind.' The energy glowed over him increasing the Attack even further.
"You can stop now." The referee said coming up to the side of Gray. "I think you won."
Seeing that the match was not called off it was definitely not over. "Call it my win then," Gray said not sparing the Pokemon a glance.
"Hoho so you know what is going on? Very well." The referee announced, "the winner, The Flying Darkness Gray."
Stopping the move Gray used the energy to replenish himself. 'Ah, I need to experiment more. But the side effects for using the Sunlight for energy is not good as I am a Dark-type. Best to let my Fire type's use this move though. Is there a move called Dark Day?? I will have to look up moves later.'
"The next match will begin!" The referee said not paying Gray any mind or asking him if he wished to continue.

"The next fighter, the Shadow Blur!" A Purugly walked out on two's. "Begin!"

"Scrch, Scrch, Scrch, Scrch," four Fury Swipes cut across gray's chest. When the fifth one came gray wrapped his arms around the Pokemon. Locking his hands behind it's back kept it in place.
"Rawr, let me go!" Purugly demanded. "Why is your body so warm?" Feeling the heat on its fur, the Pokemon wanted to get far away from Gray.
Gray had absorbed way too much sunlight that was bad for his body. He needed a release and he had thought of way to do it. He remembered what Growlithe did to him. His mouth opens scaring the daylights out of Purugly.
"Fire Blast!" The Dark Fire came out of Gray's mouth and caught the pokemon point-blank. It's fur singed. Seeing it still consciousness Gray threw the Pokemon to the ground.
"Thump," planting his feet firmly on the ground his talon's extending. feeling a power well up inside he took a deep breath. "Aahhh," his body increased in size as flame started to gather around his body.

The fire pulled in all the different energies in the area. "Da..rk Bl..ast.. Bu..rn!" Gray strained to get the words out.
"Fwoosh!" The Dark Fire came out of Gray's mouth burning the side of his face and his chest. His arms went slack. The referee saw the move and realized he may have pushed Gray too far. Jumping in front of Purugly, the Kangaskhan crossed it's arms and used Protect. The green barrier formed to take the hit.
"Kaboom," the blast shook the entire arena as the pressure sent the watchers out of their seats. The tent flap blew away as the dust carried it off. Around Gray, the ground turned to a black glass.

"Huff, huff, that was not a good idea. Recover!" Restoring his health back Gray retracted more of his transformation. He was now down to just his talons and mask.
Once the dust settled, the referee was burned and barely standing. Purugly was out cold. Protect didnt block all of the move. Blinking his eyes the Referee called the fight.

"Wooh, Go Gray!" The bird Pokemon cheered. The beast Pokemon joined in too. But they just cheered, they didnt call Gray by name though.
"Silence!" A Nidoking yelled. It moved from the higher up area. It walked with the grace and presence of a King. Coming down to the arena it looked at Gray sizing him up. "You have one more fight Brat." Its voice contained disdain. Multiple debuffs went on Gray as several buffs were cast on the Nidoking. "How would you like to earn the title of champion?"
"Huff!! Screw it. In for a penny in for a pound." Gray said standing up. 'This match will have to be purely physical. I only have enough for a few Special attacks left.
Up in the stands the Nidoqueen felt a funny feeling. She made her way to down below. Her brother would get himself killed she thought. Her husband remained in the stands to watch as was his job. The old NidoKing watched with all his focus.
