I was about to say something when i suddenly heard my mother's voice. She is cheerfully conversing with someone as they enter the dining area. Everyone in the room, including Neo, turned to look at the entry way. My whole body stiffened when three figures slowly entered the room. Father is walking ahead of the other two. As usual he have that indifferent expression plastered on that handsome face of his. He is wearing a faded casual blue jean and a v-neck mint green shirt. He coolly walked towards the table with both of his hands tucked inside his jean's pocket.
Mother have a happy and satisfied expression on her face as she linked arms with the young man walking beside her. She is now wearing a baby blue t-shirt and a knee length denim pants. Her chestnut colored hair tied in a simple ponytail.
The young man beside her also have a happy expression on his face but his smile did not reach his eyes as he respectfully agree to whatever my mother is saying to him at the moment. The young man is wearing a black round neck t-shirt partnered with a tattered faded blue jeans. He is holding a black leather jacket on his right hand. Judging by his slightly messy hair, I can conclude that he must have ridden a motorbike on his way here.
When mom saw us, she deliberately pulled on the young mans arm. "Qian honey, is this the guy you mentioned this morning?" Mother asked as they walk closer.
Qian acted as the host as he introduces 'his' visitor to our mother. "Mom, this is Neo Kei Yuan from the Yuan Clan."
"Oh dear, I didn't expect to see Young Master Yuan here in our poor abode." mom said.
"I am honored to meet you Mrs. Tan. I thank you for welcoming me into your home." Neo respectfully said as he bowed in greeting to my mother. Father on the other hand didn't mind what was happening around him as he read the X city's local newspaper.
"Who said you're welcome here?" I mumbled to myself. Unfortunately, the volume of my voice was not low enough enabling the person beside me to hear what I just said. Qian is right beside me so he definitely heard me. He only raised an eyebrow at me but did not say a word.
"By the way, this is Vincent Gu the second son of the Gu family." mother said as she introduced Vincent to Neo.
This is not what I expected. I did not expect mother to actually invite Vincent over for dinner and this so called best friend of mine did not even call me to at least let me know ahead of time. Vincent being here is not that surprising but Neo being here never even crossed my mind. Why did I not know that my brother is going to invite someone for dinner and that someone is actually Neo??! Since when where they acquainted??!!
"Mother Z, Neo is actually my classmate in Xin City High." Vincent said in a clear warm voice. He elegantly offered his right hand to shake hands with Neo after he slung his black leather jacket onto his shoulder.
"Fancy meeting you here." Neo said as he shakes hand with Vincent.
"What a coincidence. I never expected to see you here tonight." Vincent said as he retracted his hand away from Neo.
"This is great! Then there is no introductions
needed. Since both of you are from Xin City High then young master Yuan must already know my niece Elrae." Mother said.
"Yes. We've met." Neo said as he meaningfully glanced at me.
"Good evening Mr. Yuan." I said in a calm tone of voice.
Neo moved closer to me in attempt for a friendly hug as a greeting which elites usually do during parties but I swiftly moved sideways to avoid him. I am now standing beside Vincent. Neo didn't seem to mind my rudeness for he gave me a slight smile before offering his hand for a hand shake. I gracefully shook hands with him, but when I was about to retract my hand his grip on me tightened. Fadjie bar! Can he not do this in front of my family??!! I smiled at him before saying "Mr. Yuan seems to like my hand a lot for he is unwilling to let go." I sarcastically told him as I forcefully pulled my hand away from his grip.
Neo finally let go of my hand. "Indeed, Ms. Elrae's hand is good. Very good. Please call me Neo. I will be delighted to hear my name being called by such a fine woman like you."
Ugh!! This guy is shameless! How can he say such perverted remarks in front of my family?! Why not be a gentleman and let the beautiful me have a peaceful evening!?
My mother coughed lightly gaining the attention of the people inside the room. Well except father, everyone in the room turned their heads to look at my mom. She have a slight smile on her face as she said "Come on children. Let's take our seats, I personally helped in cooking tonight's dinner."
Vincent worriedly glanced at me as he guided my mother towards her seat. My brother acted like a very accommodating host as he guided Neo towards a vacant seat. I took a deep breath before following them.
I do not know how this happened but in such a huge table how come I ended in a seat between Vincent and Neo?? Come on! This is a frame up! A very bad set up! Why am I seated between the two men whom I did not even want to meet at the time being?!
I glared at my brother who is seated opposite me. He only winked at me in response to my murderous glare. Qian Tan!! You are so dead after tonight!
