'Boohoo, surprise…' Lu Meili noted the sound inside her head, after hearing Lou Mary's voice as she pointed out the same thing over and over again.

Lu Meili did not find the woman's blame offending anymore but it was still annoying to hear something that was more like a broken piece of record, that humans invented a very long time ago which needed to stop for good.

'Really? Is she acting?' General Wang thought to himself curiously while looking at Lu Meili with keen interest. The whole event was surprising and interesting for him. He was supposed to be chasing after the Long Kael but decided to deal with Lu Meili first.

She had tried to escape or more like chased after the king earlier, so he needed to make sure she got in the prison first, despite him really wanting to know why and where Long Kael went with a woman.

Wang Gong was not entirely clueless about what was going on with the country before the king had received the letter from an unknown individual.

Since the soldiers were also claiming that Lu Meili was the one who had orchestrated the summoning of the beasts, he was very curious about investigating the future princess.

The entire chase that started with Lu Meili had caused someone's death and some other injuries. Also if the beast tide was not stopped on time and they somehow managed to get out of the Thunder Forest, it would surely disturb and frighten the citizens.

"General Wang, do not be fooled. We beg you to do what is right and avenge Rusan," Lou Mary said to Wang Gong which cut off the man's line of thoughts.

"Woman, shut up!" Long Cheng snapped furiously with a growl.

With that Lou Mary's lips noticeably trembled as she pursed them tightly to not utter any other words. Her eyes watered as she looked at Long Cheng in fright. She looked at someone so wrongly and innocently that one could take pity on her.

Since that was the case her sibling who hated Lu Meili as equally jump in for the rescue.

"Your Highness! General Wong! Our family has been loyal to the crown and the entire country from the very beginning. My big sister is only doing what is right. She needs to die! Right here, right now, for killing Rusan and because of the casualties which she had caused." Lou Hana demanded shamelessly.

"Enough!" General Wong shouted as he glared at the noisy Lou sisters. Even if the claim was true, no one should demand him to do something in urgency except for the king himself. "Where is Rusan's body?"

Long Jun answered this after getting closer to the general, "I ordered soldiers to send it to the palace."

Wang Gong nodded before he looked at Long Cheng seriously. "Prince Long, step away from her. I will decide what to do with her, based on her answers to my questions."

Even though Long Cheng did not want to, he had no choice but to agree with Wang Gong. The general was technically starting the investigation by first getting Lu Meili's side of the story, which was fair on his part.

Long Cheng stepped away from Lu Meili and allowed Wang Gong to get closer. He was still not that far in case something happened and he would be needed to save her. At that moment, the general was now an arm away from her.

Everyone was silently waiting for what would happen next. They were all trusting that Wang Gong would do what was right and they respected his decisions most of the time.

As a general who had fought with the king from the way back, Wang Gong had an intimidating presence. The air around him was always heavy that demanded submission from anyone beneath his status.

Wang Gong looked at Lu Meili closely. She was standing in front of him, far enough for him to grab her or to snap her neck within seconds if needed. It would be effortless since she was unable to move further with the chains surrounding her body.

His stare was authoritative while the atmosphere around him seemed dangerous to approach. Lu Meili held his gaze steadily without any indication of fear. The courage made Wang Gong silently appreciate Lu Meili. He preferred to deal with royalty with strong will than those who depended on their family's backing.

That was the case for a while before, Wang Gong asked, "Did you kill a dragon shifter?"

"No." Lu Meili responded immediately. She continued to hold his gaze without challenge or any support coming from Long Cheng.

Of course, Long Cheng knew what Wang Gong's intention was and he was delighted with how Lu Meili was dealing with the general's test of will so far.

"Do you have any proof?" Wang Gong questioned.

Lu Meili tilted her head, "I would have been able to get proof if it was not erased by the true killer."

"General Wong! I will be a witness for the testimony of my comrade's death. I saw it with my own eyes that she killed him!" Lou Mary said as she got closer to them.

Long Cheng growled viciously on Lou Mary which made the others cower. She stepped back but continued to state her opinion.

"I see." Wang Gong said with a nod. "A proper investigation will be done by the court. In the meantime, she will be held in the palace prison." He said seriously with no room for negotiation.

Long Cheng ignored this and stepped to the general's side to speak with him, "General Wang, she is my mate. We can keep her captive but because of her status, she should be on house arrest at most. The first trial is not even done yet. If she needs to be inside the palace prison because of the jury's decision, so be it."
