The elders' intention was to make Lu Meili scared. He expected her to show fear for herself and her mate's reputation so she could cooperate.

If she was really mated to Prince Cheng, then she would make sure not to cause any more trouble than she had already done so far.

Her being in the news alone was already scandalous enough, especially if Long Cheng was still going to claim her despite the public trial that needed to take place on the last court evaluation. For them, being alive should be her priority.

That was what almost everyone thought because they believed that, Lu Meili had killed one of their people.

Of course, what they expected did not happen. Not only did Lu Meili did not look anywhere near scared, but she also looked amused before she had the guts to laugh at them almost mockingly.

"Where will I plead guilty? In front of all of you?" She asked in between fits of hysterical laughter.

"You… you… what do you mean by this?!" The elder shouted appalled. They felt offended by her because she was supposed to beg them, not laugh in their faces.

Han Lu glanced at Lu Meili with a smirk before she quickly hid it and spoke almost furiously, "Father just look at her! She is really not right in the head! You are all giving her a chance."

Han Wei shook his head. "This is a waste of time,"

"Yes! We just need to decide on her execution! There is no mark at her which can prove that  she's Prince Cheng's mate." One of them said with annoyance.

With that, they watched Lu Meili as she stood up, walking towards them slowly. The small cage that she was in, held a very small glass window so enough sunlight could go in and for them to see her clearly.

Most of the elders scanned her from head to toe. Of course, because of the tattoo, they stared longer on her middle part with a deep frown. Some had confused expressions while the others' concerned.

Lu Meili carefully observed their reactions with indifference and said,  "In all the planets that I have visited, this is the only place that made me think that there will be no chance of fairness for me ."

"Impertinent! You are still alive. That is proof enough. What are you talking about?"

With a snicker, she said, "Heh, you know respectable elder, if people keep on talking about my future execution it is easy to assume that I will have my life ended soon."

Han Wei frowned and stepped closer to the transparent glass screen, before speaking seriously, "Young woman, please listen. We are here for fairness. We also learned that you are a mage with some acceptable magical abilities. Since you have repaired the seal of the Thunder Forest despite the claim that it was your doing, our King says otherwise, thus freeing you from that accusation. You have saved our army time and fixed the problem with the beasts sooner before they could manage to get out and hurt other citizens. For that we owe you."

He paused to watch Lu Meili's expression before continuing, "However, we have been blunt with you from the start that there is a witness to the death. Though we are still waiting for the autopsy report, there were no grounds for the witness to kill her own partner. As a mage yourself, we also could not remove the possibility that an autopsy could be manipulated. We are waiting for a mage that could be as strong as you to rule that out."

"Right now, all the pieces of evidence are pointing right at you and to save your life, we are giving you the chance to confess and plead guilty. At most, your penalty will be two hundred years in prison. We will allow you to have a mating ceremony with Prince Cheng to extend your life if you are really his mate." Han Wei added.

Lu Meili raised a brow. She was standing in front of Han Wei with the transparent glass wall between them. Though his way of speaking to her had noticeably changed. He sounded more respectful and careful. Han Wei seemed to not want to offend her.

But why would he do that?

'Interesting,' Lu Meili thought to herself as she stared at Han Wei suspiciously.

"Are you all done?" Lu Meili asked as she held Han Wei's gaze without any fear. She still did not trust him any bit especially when the lingering feeling that the elder was dangerous was still present.

Han Wei replied with confusion, "Done on what?"

"Done speaking. It's my turn now." She answered with indifference.

"How ung-" One of the elders started to speak.

"Shut up! I listened to all of your rantings. It is just fair to let me do so as well. " Lu Meili yelled with enough force and authority that took them by surprise, making them unable to speak. She specifically emphasized the word 'fair', so it would stick in their minds.

Lu Meili released a deep breath, "Listen, I am not from these countries and I do have any plans to stay in prison for 200 years." Even if someone had the lifespan of a million light-years, when wasting a part of it in a cage, it would still be appalling. She needed to still do a lot of things, more important things than what they currently wanted.

"I also do not want to lose my head. So let's do it this way, either you let me go to the trial since that is the right thing to do or set me free since I did not kill your comrade." Lu Meili offered casually with a wave of her hand.

Silence. There were all silent for a while because they were not sure how to express their emotions at that moment.

Han Lu was furious. Her father patiently tried to explain the situation in her mating competition and this was Lu Meili's response. "Didn't you just listen to what my father had said?"

Lu Meili shrugged her shoulders dismissively.

Instead of being mad, Han Wei laughed suddenly. "Very well. We will do the trial as you prefer. I am just letting you know that the only way for you to be not executed with the public trial is when you raise Rusan from the dead."
