The car pulled into a spectacular looking house of white, the dark gates slid open with the touch of a button from the roof of the car. Hong Lian pulled into the driveway of the two-story building that was designed to hold only six bedrooms and a bath in each room. A row of potted flowers grew around, no sooner had the engine of the car cut off, that was when two maids ran out of the house. Hong Lian opened the car door gently shutting it firmly behind him, to open those of his sister, whom he had to carry in his hand, since she was fast asleep, almost as if she hadn't slept well during the night.
"Good afternoon Vice President Hong! Young miss Ruolan!"
They both curtsied to greet the new owner of the Hong family townhouse. Hong Lian made a gesture with his hand to his mouth for them to turn it down and not be so loud around his sister. He saw she was starting to wake up probably from hearing the voices of the women, who had a matronly look to them.
The maid wore the same uniform as those at the Hong Chateau, a black gown and white apron with her hair pulled in a bun and dark shoes on their feet. They ran ahead to open the door for him, one of them ran ahead to show him where Ruolan's room was, while the other remained behind to shut the door and begin preparing their meal.
The house they were in was a simple version compared to the one they left behind at the city, the room that was assigned to Ruolan was in pink décor and tastefully designed by a top notch interior designer, both Hong Lian and the maid had to roll back the bed cover to tuck Ruolan in bed. After putting in sister in bed, he sat by the side f her bed to look at her sleeping face.
"You can leave."
The maid hesitated for a while, when she heard Hong Lian ask her to go, which meant that he was the only one that would remain with his sister in her room. Prior to their arrival, Madam Hong had called ahead to let the maids know that on no occasion should Lian be left alone with his sister, although they found it strange that a brother could not talk to his sister without anyone being present, yet they chose to comply with the strange request from Madam Hong. Meanwhile, the rule did not apply at the main family house, because she knew that her husband would not stand for their son to be treated that way.
"Hmm..Vice President Hong, your mother asked us not to leave you and Young miss Ruolan in close quarters or alone behind closed doors. I'm sorry, but we are only our job."
The maid appeared apologetic to Hong Lian, but she remained rooted to where she stood.
"I'm.. sure mother was only doing that in our best interest. You don't have to be sorry."
The voice came off as somewhat shaky, thereby causing the maid to feel sorry towards him and helpless to go against what she had been instructed. Lian rose from where he sat, bending to caress the face of his sister, before straightening up to leave Ruolan's room with the maid, closing the door firmly behind him.
