The clinical research department were usually one of the last people to leave the office. Almost at the same time she struggled to change her black heels to a glittering silver one. She had already call her father to let him know she was not going to be home until late night, because of the date she had for that night.
"Please, I don't want him to be ugly or fat!"
Sheng Liena placed her palms together, as though offering a prayer to an unknown deity. Anyone that heard her would think she was asking for something reasonable and not a superficial request.
Admiring her face for one last time, Sheng Liena strode out of the restroom, in a glittering deep blue mini skort dress and a sparkling chandelier gold earring with sapphire stones. During lunch hour she had to ask the driver to drop her at a clothing and jewelry store where she did a quick shopping for her date.
On getting outside, she began running to where the main access road was, where she could hail a cab for her night out.
"Taxi!"
An orange cab stopped for her, as she hurried to open the backseat door to get inside.
"Please drop me off at BaDong's!"
"Okay Miss!"
The driver a middle aged man, drove through the busy road and off to one of the most expensive restaurant in the district. Twenty minutes later they were still half way to the restaurant.
"Driver! Don't you know of any shortcuts around?!"
Sheng Liena was beginning to sweat with the mounting tension within her, she was supposed to have been there since ten minutes ago, the good impression she wanted to create on the blind date was now impossible.
"Miss, the shortcut I know is like five minutes from here, as soon as the traffic begins to move close to that alley, I will take you through it to come out at the street very close to BaDong resturant."
The driver looked through the rear view mirror at the anxious expression on the passenger's face, watching as she reached for her brown leather handbag to pull out a cellphone.
"Hello is this Pang Xiaoting?!"
"Yes, you are speaking to him and who are you?"
"I'm Sheng Liena, your date. I'm running a little late because of traffic."
"It's okay, I will be waiting for you."
"Thanks."
The phone call ended as the young woman silently prayed for her to make to BaDong restaurant before her date gets tired of waiting for her. Almost half an hour later, the cab pulled up to the front of a spectacular one story building made from sparkling cut glass. She ran out the car almost forgetting her handbag in the process until the driver called her back to pick them before driving away.
"Miss do you have a reservation?"
One of the restaurant attendants in white shirt and black skirt with a crisscross tie on her shirt sleeved shirt, asked the woman that just walked through the door of their restaurant.
