The moment he arrived back at the city, Han Ye went straight to the restaurant to pick DX up. Since it was quite late, DX told Han Ye to take a detour and drop Grandma Zhen back at the hotel.
"There is no need for so much trouble. I can just take the cab home," said Grandma Zhen when DX offered to send her back first.
DX smiled and stood firmly, "No, there is no trouble at all. After all, you are my future grandmother-in-law. I should do my best to make you like me and make me your favorite grandson-in-law."
Grandma Zhen laughed softly. In the end, she relented. Along the way, because DX had to go through some emergency emails from one of Du Corporation's overseas companies, she chatted with Han Ye instead.
The two talked about Han Ye's work and his time with Du Corporation. Suddenly, feeling mischievous, she asked, "Mr. Han, you have been with Xiao An for quite some time. What do you think of your President Du? Is he a nice man?"
"Erm..." Han Ye glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the old lady who was smiling innocently at him. Somehow, he felt as if he was set up by her.
Without looking up from his iPad, DX could sense his hesitation and said, "Feel free to tell the truth."
Han Ye gulped, "Old Mrs. Zhen, President Du is a tough boss to work for but towards Ms. Zhen, he is a totally devoted man. Everything he does is for Ms. Zhen."
Grandma Zhen laughed softly as she teased him, "You are just saying that because he's here in the car."
Han Ye replied with a coy smile but in his heart, he was thinking, "You shouldn't have asked me if you know! You guys are definitely related!"
"I bet that Xiao An makes you work long hours. How are you going to go on dates? Should I introduce someone to you?" asked Grandma Zhen. She meant well but she had accidentally opened a painful can of worms.
The atmosphere in the car changed abruptly and she noticed that Han Ye was clenching the steering wheel tightly as he tried to maintain his smile.
Looking at DX, she whispered, "Did I say anything wrong?"
Putting his iPad down, DX patted her wrinkly hand and reassured her, "It's not your fault, Nai Nai. It is not well-known but Han Ye's wife was in an automobile accident many years ago and she has been in a comatose state since then."
Saddened by what DX told her, Grandma Zhen looked at Han Ye apologetically, "I'm sorry, Mr. Han. I did not know."
Han Ye smiled at her through the rearview mirror, "It's fine, Old Mrs. Zhen. With President Du's help, we managed to catch the culprit. Now, we are just waiting for Xin Ya to wake up..."
With a sad chuckle, he continued, "...We had an argument back then and she is probably trying to punish me now by refusing to wake up."
Grandma Zhen patted him on the shoulder and said, "I'm sure Miss Xin Ya would wake up soon..."
Han Ye nodded while DX remained expressionless. When they arrived at the hotel, DX wanted to send her up to her room but Grandma Zhen refused.
"Xiao An, if you keep being like this, I won't talk to you anymore!"
Left with no choice, he merely nodded and gave in to her, "Alright then. Please send me a message once you are in your room."
Grandma Zhen hugged him and whispered, "Take care of my baby, Xiao An..."
"Always..."
They waited in the car until Grandma Zhen entered the hotel.
"Where to, sir?" asked Han Ye as he started driving.
"The pier," said DX.
