DX dropped Han Ye at the Imperial Hospital where his wife had been staying at for the past 10 years.
"Would you be here the whole night?" asked DX as he moved into the driver's seat.
Han Ye stifled his yawn and replied, "Most likely. Please don't worry about me. I'd get a cab back if necessary."
"I'll see you tomorrow after lunch," said DX. Without waiting for any response, he immediately drove off.
Instead of going home, he just drove around the city at a dangerously high speed. His mind was occupied with thoughts as he tried to figure out how to deal with the problem. It felt as if no matter who he chose, someone would definitely get hurt.
The next thing he knew, he was parked in front of Jane's apartment.
"Might as well go up..." thought DX as he looked at the building. When he rang the doorbell, no one answered him.
"Where those two off to now?" thought DX worriedly. He glanced at his watch and noted that it was almost 11 p.m. Even though he wanted to send Kai Xin a message, he eventually talked himself out of it.
Instead, he waited patiently outside Jane's apartment. Luckily, it was late at night or he would have attracted plenty of unnecessary attention.
About 30 minutes later, Kai Xin came back with Jane on her back. The latter was completely drunk and had fallen asleep on the way home.
The moment he saw them, he rushed forward to help her.
"What are you doing here?" asked Kai Xin as she gently lowered Jane into DX's arms.
He smiled and reached over to kiss her forehead before saying, "I miss you."
"We were together just 4 hours ago."
He shrugged, "I still miss you."
Even though she was touched by his words, she still scowled at him. Once she unlocked the door, she directed DX to Jane's room.
The moment he placed her down on the bed, he took Kai Xin's hand and led her out of the room. Disgusted by the place, he shook his head as they went to the couch.
With her leaning against his chest, he asked, "Don't you feel anything when you saw me carrying a woman?"
"Nah..." teased Kai Xin as she bit his hand playfully.
His lips twitched when he heard her. "What if I'm carrying someone else other than Jane?"
With his hand in her mouth, she mumbled, "I ill kwill you."
He chuckled, "At least you know how to be jealous. I thought you are immune to it."
Releasing his hand, she sighed and leaned back against him, "I know who I should be jealous of..."
"Are you talking about Song Qiao?" asked DX as Kai Xin climbed onto his laps.
"I can tell that her goal is you."
"So can I. To her, I am just a goal to achieve. Don't worry about her...," said DX softly as he hugged her soft body against his hard ones.
He kissed the top of her head and continued, "...I have no interest in any women who want to use me to achieve their goal. As for Song Qiao, I'm only entertaining her because of the relationships between our families that went back for generations..."
He flicked her forehead before he finished his sentence, "You are the only one I ever love. Don't forget about that."
Kai Xin gave him a content sigh coupled with a smile but somehow, she felt pangs of guilt.
"I used you too, DX...Would you hate me if you know about it?" thought Kai Xin sadly as she looked at him.
Oblivious to her thoughts, DX glanced down at her. She had this naive and innocent look that belied the pain of her past and DX wondered where she got the strength to keep living while keeping everything to herself. A series of images flashed through as he thought about the pain she went through when she was violated by the bastards.
His mind wandered back to the time when he found her in the room with Shangguan Xing. With his teeth clenched, he struggled to hold his temper in check when he thought about the fear that she must have felt when she was locked in the room with the very man who hurt her.
When Kai Xin felt his body tensing up, she reached up and gently caressed his face as she asked softly, "What's wrong?"
He wanted to talk to her about it but at the same time, he was afraid that she might cry again. In the end, he shook his head and murmured , "Nothing. Let's go to sleep."
"Are you sleeping here tonight?" asked Kai Xin with a brow raised. She glanced around the place. The couch was barely big enough to fit his body.
With a frown, she said, "I don't think it would be comfortable to sleep on the couch."
"I thought you have a bed here?" asked DX.
"I do but it's a single-sized bed."
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he smirked, "We can share."
Pretending to be affronted, Kai Xin scoffed, "President Du! Behave yourself! Did I say you can share MY bed?"
In an instant, she jumped off him and went into the spare bedroom while he chuckled and followed after her before she could lock the door.
They playfully wrestled for the right to occupy the bed before ending up in a scene where Kai Xin snuggled tightly against him. Right before she fell asleep, she gave him a squeeze and murmured sleepily, "Du XiAn, you are such a warm teddy bear...Big everywhere and nice to cuddle against..."
He smiled at her description, "And I love you too..."
As he watched her sleeping peacefully, he wondered if it was possible for her to ever forget about her pain. Furthermore, he had yet to ask her about Zi Han. He deduced that she was probably impregnated by the boys, but where was the boy?
"Is he one of the boys at the orphanage?"
