Even though DX was smiling at him, Dr. Phillip felt as if his life was in danger and he immediately took another step away from him while raising both his hands up, "I know Layla's not here, but if you hit me again, I'm not above squealing on you!"
"How is Layla going to help you? He's stronger than her now," asked Kai Xin curiously. She looked at DX for confirmation and when he nodded, she looked back at Dr. Phillip as if to say, "See?"
"Well, I'm sure Boss Layla has plenty of dirt on him that she can blackmail him with...," Dr. Phillip pointed out with a smug look on his face. They grew up together and over the years, Layla had used multiple methods to get DX to do certain things.
With his arms folded, he added proudly, "...and don't forget. I'm her favorite best friend."
"That's what she wants you to think," DX said coolly. He then looked at Kai Xin and said, "This idiot here is Dr. Phillip. He's an old friend of mine. Remember the doctor I told you previously?"
Kai Xin nodded before asking, "Are you sure he's reliable?"
While Dr. Phillip glared at her for questioning his expertise, DX answered her question, "Despite his UGLY face and lack of style, he's one of the top doctors in the world. Why don't you let him check you out?"
Kai Xin placed a hand protectively on her stomach. She was worried that DX might be disappointed to find out that instead of her being pregnant, she was just getting fat.
As if he knew what she was thinking about, DX sat next to her on the bed and placed his hand on top of hers before comforting her, "Even if it's not, don't worry about it. I'll love you the same. After all..."
With a penetrating gaze, he continued in a lower voice, "...I'll definitely impregnate you one day."
Having the full realization that they were in the room with the presence of another man, Kai Xin blushed at his words.
"Urgh!" Dr. Phillip groaned at the public display of affection.
He then snapped, "Just let me do what you want me to do and let me out of here! Come on, guys! I'm a single man here! Stop showing off!"
DX stepped aside before saying, "Take her pulse and tell me everything..."
Dr. Phillip went over and with his eyes closed, he took Kai Xin's pulse on the wrist. After a minute, he placed her hand down before asking, "Have you been feeling unwell lately?"
She shook her head before answering, "My body's fine, but lately, I get tired out very easily. As you saw earlier, I could fall asleep anytime, anywhere."
"How about your period? When was your last cycle?" asked Dr. Phillip as he gently felt around her belly.
"They are irregular, so I don't keep track."
He nodded as he took down mental notes before asking, "Do you take any contraceptive pills?"
Kai Xin nodded. She looked around the bed but her clutch was not on it.
"Hmm..." She glanced around the room and saw that her clutch was on the desk.
Pointing at it, she asked, "DX, can you please get it for me?"
Without any hesitation, he went over to the desk. He noticed the old envelope which he had not seen earlier. Even though he was curious about where it came from, he decided to put it aside for now.
"Is that really Du XiAn?" thought Dr. Phillip curiously before he turned to look at Kai Xin. He wondered what kind of woman she was to make the almighty President Du come and go at her command.
DX grabbed the clutch and passed it to Kai Xin who then gave the pillbox containing her birth control pills to Dr. Phillip.
He took a quick look at the pills. Feeling suspicious, he took one out and gave it a lick before throwing that pill away.
Looking at DX, he thought, "It can't be him. He's too proud to do these kinds of things..."
Seeing the frown on Dr. Phillip's face, DX was worried that there was something wrong with Kai Xin and asked, "What's wrong? Is she alright?"
Dr. Phillip shook his head, "She's fine. It's nothing serious..."
Shaking the pillbox, he continued, "...But these are not birth control pills."
"What?!" Kai Xin gasped. She took the pillbox back from him and looked at the pills inside.
Picking it up, she asked, "Are you sure? I've been using them for years."
"They looked like birth control pills...Well, actually they are part of birth control pills. Except that..."
He glanced at the bin where he threw the pill away before continuing, "...they are actually the placebo pill. The sugar pill. In fact, every one of the pills in your pillbox is nothing but sugar pills."
With a frown, he asked, "Didn't you realized it? They usually come in different colors from the active pills."
Kai Xin shook her head, "They don't look any different from my normal pills."
With a nod, he said, "I thought so."
"Who could have changed it?" Kai Xin asked no one in particular. She tried her best to think but she did not recall seeing anyone touched it before.
"That bastard..." murmured DX angrily as he thought about Ghost. He had no doubt that the latter had something to do with this.
"What?" She heard him said something earlier but it was too soft and she could not catch what he was saying.
Looking at him, she asked him to repeat but he shook his head and said, "It's nothing important."
Sitting down, he held her hand before asking Dr. Phillip, "So?"
The doctor looked at them seriously and when he saw the nervous look on DX's face, he burst out, "Congratulations! You are about to be a dad again!"
When he heard that, DX was unable to control himself as he smiled happily at Kai Xin.
"We are going to have a baby?" said both of them in unison.
DX laughed as he hugged her tightly. With happy tears welling in his eyes, he said, "We are really going to have a baby!"
Even though he had his suspicions before, hearing the confirmation from a doctor still made him a happy man.
Watching DX openly displayed his emotions, Dr. Phillip was shellshocked. They had been friends for so many years but he had never seen DX with such a wide unreserved smile before.
"Damn... I have to tell the guys about this..." thought Dr. Phillip while he sneakily took a photo of them.
However, Kai Xin was somewhat stunned by the revelation and compared to DX, it took her longer to react to it.
"Are you sure?" asked Kai Xin as she stared at Dr. Phillip with big round eyes. She was afraid that he might be joking with her.
He nodded, "I'm sure of it. We still need to get you properly checked out to be sure, but there was no doubt about it. I have a clinic nearby. You can drop by anytime you want."
Remembering how she was adamant to avoid the hospitals, DX quickly wiped his tears away. Without looking at his friend, he asked, "Can you do the check up here?"
With a shrug, Dr. Phillip said, "Of course. It's not a big problem. I'll just get my staff to send the equipment over tomorrow morning."
Still finding it hard to believe, Kai Xin asked, "How can I be pregnant? I didn't get any morning sickness or bloating...like be-"
She stopped herself before she revealed too much to the doctor. After all, she did not know him well enough to trust him. Instead, she continued, "...like any of the normal pregnancy-related problems."
"Different people have a different experience. Some people vomit, some people bloat, some get the whole package...and some, get tired for no reason even after long hours of rest."
After hearing his explanation, Kai Xin glanced down at her belly.
"There's a life inside of me...Another new life..." thought Kai Xin as she gently caressed her belly. She could finally see the bulge for what it was.
As if she was afraid that it might be a dream, she turned to DX and asked in a hushed tone, "Am I actually dreaming? Is this for real?"
"Yeah, this is real..." replied DX with a warm smile before planting a kiss on her lips. He then leaned down and kissed her belly before looking at her. With a choked up voice, he repeated, "We are really going to be parents..."
