Once the boys left for school, DX went back to his bedroom. She was still sleeping soundly on the bed without any care for the world. Every now and then, she would frown and mumbled something inaudible as if she was talking to someone.
"What in the world..." thought DX when he heard her moan suddenly. Curious, he raised a brow at her suspiciously as he walked towards her.
As he knelt down on one knee, he whispered into her ear, "Who are you dreaming of, woman?"
"Bossy...Jerk..." mumbled Kai Xin in her sleep before she kicked the blanket off and turned around to face the other side. DX frowned as he wondered who she was scolding in her sleep.
He took off his sweat-stained shirt and threw them aside before climbing back onto his side of the bed. As expected, without the blanket to protect her from the cold, she soon gravitated towards his warm body.
The heat from his body helped to wake her up and he watched as she hugged him for a moment. Her eyelids fluttered and it was not long before she opened them fully.
When she saw his face, she closed her eyes again before slowly climbing onto him. With her head rested on his chest, she murmured sleepily, "Why do you smell like sweat?"
He placed his hands on the small of her back to steady her before saying, "I was at the gym earlier...Should I take a bath?"
"No! Not now...Don't move..." murmured Kai Xin. She was too comfortable to allow him to move. When she felt his hand linking into hers, she smiled, "Just for a minute..."
Without opening her eyes, she kissed his chest before asking, "Did you sleep at all last night?"
"En."
"Good...I was going to wake up and check on you but I had a good dream last night..."
"What did you dream about?" asked DX.
"A man..."
"What?"
Even without looking, she knew that he was raising a brow at her and so, she said, "The most delicious looking man...with the most kissable lips...and sharp nose...and the abs! You should've seen his abs! But he's so mean, ordering me around as if I'm his slave..."
DX chuckled at her description. He knew that the man in her dream was him which meant that she actually had a wet dream about him! That was a thought that made him smiled brightly.
As he patted her back gently, he asked, "What did you do then?"
She finally opened her eyes and looked up into his dark eyes before saying with a mischievous grin, "I tied him up and had my ways with him...I don't think he's going to repent though..."
"I think you are right..." laughed DX softly.
Kai Xin smiled, "Do you have to go to work soon?"
"Good thing about being the boss is that I can go to work anytime I want..."
She tutted, "You should be a good example to your employees..."
He kissed the top of her head before saying, "I'm kidding...I'd leave after breakfast. So, hurry up and get ready..."
Kai Xin quickly scrambled up from him and went to freshen up. While she was in the bathroom freshening up, he went in to take a shower.
"Urgh..." She groaned as she watched him through the reflection of the mirror. He was careful enough not to let any water near his right hand and only used his left hand to wash himself up.
"Did you enjoy the show?" asked DX with a smile as he stepped out of the shower. She watched quietly as he took a dry towel and wiped off the excess water that was on his body. Whatever that he missed out slowly trickled down onto the floor as he walked towards her.
When he was standing in front of her, Kai Xin bit her lower lip and nodded like an idiot, "Maybe you shouldn't go to work today..."
DX laughed before he walked out of the bathroom with her hand in his. Once he was done changing into his work attire, they were about to leave the bedroom when DX pulled her back.
He took out a pair of engagement rings and placed one of them on her left ring finger. The rings had a simple design with a single diamond rested on it.
"What's this?" asked Kai Xin as she watched him.
He looked at how well it fit on her ring finger and secretly praised himself for getting the circumference of her finger correct.
"An engagement ring," answered DX before he brought her hand up to his lips to kiss the ring on her finger.
"No. What I meant was...Shouldn't you get on your knees and get all gooey and romantic? I know that you are a busy man but don't tell me that you've never watched a romantic movie before! What is this?" pouted Kai Xin as she turned away from him.
He chuckled as he watched her little tantrum, "Since everyone in the world already knows that you are my woman, do I still have to go through all the formalities?"
When she ignored him, he moved to get on his knees but she quickly turned back to stop him.
"I'm just kidding!" laughed Kai Xin. She took the other ring that he was holding and placed it on his ring finger.
With a smile, she hugged him tightly.
"Kara, you are the strongest and bravest woman I've ever had the honor to meet, and I'd forever be grateful to God for bringing you into my world. With or without your past, I'd still love you and that is a fact that would never change...This ring is my promise to you..." murmured DX as he returned her hug.
Kai Xin smiled. She knew that he had finally read her letter and this was his way of saying that he would protect her no matter what. Whatever insecurities that she had left previously was completely gone.
After what had happened, she spent years hating her body and her own inability to protect it. She had blamed herself for going to that classroom that day and for a long time, she was unable to look at herself in the mirror.
Even after she learned not to fear men, there was still a part of her that was unable to move on.
