Meanwhile, at around 5 p.m., when DX and Kai Xin entered into the compound of Du Mansion, they noticed a Rolls-Royce circling around the front yard.
Once DX parked right in front of the main entrance and they got down from the car, they saw the twins and Kai An sitting at the marble stairs while they shared a bag of chips between them.
"Xin!" Kai An went to hug his sister the moment she got out of the car.
"What's this for?"
"Nothing. Just feel like showing my sister some love," said Kai An.
Kai Xin smiled. When they parted, she asked, "Why are you guys sitting here?"
"Oh, we made a $250 bet. Naomi and I bet that Old Madam Du would circle the compound for at least 2 hours before she actually stops and enters the house. The twins bet that she'd circle for at least 3 hours."
The twins met them at the bottom of the stairs and Jack asked, "How are you feeling, Kai Xin?"
Kai Xin smiled and patted his head as she replied, "I'm feeling better now. Sorry for causing you to worry…"
Jack blushed and looked away when his father raised an eyebrow at him.
"How long has she been doing this?" asked DX. He completely disregarded the fact that his twins gambled. It was for fun and the twins were well aware that they have a limited amount of money.
Unlike how he was raised with free access to the family's fund, DX made his kids earn their money. The twins get a good amount of allowance every quarter of the year. If they ran out of money, DX would allow them to get a loan with a hefty interest rate.
The first year they received an allowance, the twins went nuts and spent everything within the first month. When they got their loan, they realized that they could not pay back the loan. For the next 3 months, they had to do pay back the loan by doing the chores around the house.
After their mistake, they smartened up and asked Old Mo to teach them about investment and penny stocks. Since then, they had been saving up the money they made from their investments.
Lyle looked at his watch before answering his father, "Almost one and a half hour. We tried to stop her but she ignored us."
"She won't even pick up our calls," said Jack before he popped a piece of salted egg chips into his mouth. He actually did not care whether he win or lose since $250 was nothing to him. He and Lyle were only playing for fun.
DX took a quick look at his mother's car before saying, "She'll stop in about 15 minutes. Let's go in now…"
He took Kai Xin's hand and went into the mansion. DX stopped one of the maids and asked, "Where's Ms. An?"
"She's chatting with Ms. Naomi at the backyard," said the maid politely.
After DX dismissed her, he turned to Kai Xin and asked, "Do you want me to go with you while you talk to your mother alone?"
"I don't mind, but I know that you've something to do," said Kai Xin. She smiled, "Why don't you get some work done first? Once your mother comes in, I think you'd be unable to work."
DX nodded. He gave her a kiss on the cheek before he jogged up the stairs.
Kai Xin went to the backyard and she overheard her mother saying to Naomi, "Naomi, you're a good girl… But you're too good. Aren't you going to attack my son? What's wrong with him? Is he not to your liking?"
Kai Xin burst out laughing at her mother's way of selling her son out. She joined them at the patio and said, "Mum, aren't you being too forward? Naomi is not the type of girl to attack a man."
Naomi blushed and embarrassed, she immediately covered her eyes. She then got up and offered Kai Xin her chair while she leaned against the wooden handrail.
Kai Xin accepted her offer and once she was seated, An Qi Yan asked, "How are you?"
She nodded, "I'm feeling better now."
"Your dad called…"
Surprised, Kai Xin looked at her mother before asking, "What… What did he say?"
"I don't know. I hung up on that idiot," said An Qi Yan as she waved her hand dismissively. However, she added, "But at least he called to ask about you… Your dad cares about you, Kai Xin."
When Kai Xin did not say anything, An Qi Yan said, "One day, he'd wake up and he'd regret about everything and all the time that he lost… But for now, that's a major step for him."
Kai Xin nodded as she absentmindedly rubbed her belly. Little Monkey had been more active lately and Kai Xin wondered if it was because the little baby knew that she was about to meet everyone.
An Qi Yan watched as her daughter chatted with Naomi Nakamura who had placed her hand on Kai Xin's belly because she wanted to say hi to Little Monkey.
She knew that even though Kai Xin had never said anything, she was actually hurt by her father's abandonment. It angered An Qi Yan but there was nothing she could do when that "idiot" refused to talk to anyone.
Suddenly, someone yelled, "UNDER TWO HOURS! I WIN!!!"
Naomi Nakamura shook her head while Kai Xin looked at her wryly as she asked, "So, you like a man like my brother?"
They both grinned at each other before all of them made their way into the house.
