“Cole is dead, do you know?” Gu Mengmeng asked softly.
Miranda nodded. She was a snow fox and she could sense the Fox King’s death within her. Even without having to see it for herself, she would also become aware of it.
Then, Gu Mengmeng said, “The new Fox King is Lea.”
When Miranda heard the name that she had been troubled with for most of her life, she was stunned for a moment, and suddenly she laughed.
“What are you laughing at?” Gu Mengmeng asked simply.
Probably because of her casual attitude, Miranda slowly relaxed. She looked at Gu Mengmeng and opened her mouth, “In this one year… I had almost not thought of him at all. Now that you mention, I then realised… I seemed to have gotten over him.”
Gu Mengmeng smiled and nodded, then said, “When you were young, you had such a determined and immature infatuation. Later when you were in danger, naturally you would imagine him as a hero saving you. Now that you are living blissfully and have a partner who loves you, they would become the heroes that you could touch. With them around, you would naturally no longer need an imaginary hero.”
Miranda nodded to show agreement to Gu Mengmeng’s words.
Gu Mengmeng extended her hands and held Miranda’s arms, while saying, “I had once been rash. Your hands… it’s my fault.”
Miranda shook her head and replied, “Initially when I went to Sauder, I did not have any kind intentions. This pair of hands… it’s just retribution.”
“I promised Lea that everything in the past would be forgotten and I would never rake them up again. So this time, one of my purpose of visit is to heal your hands.” Gu Mengmeng wrapped her hands gently around Miranda’s arms. She slowly closed her eyes and prayed silently under her breath. When she opened her eyes again, she smiled gently and asked, “How about you try moving it?”
Miranda looked at her wrist in disbelief and could not utter a word. She looked up at Lucas, then reached out her hands.
Lucas reeled Miranda in excitedly and carefully scrutinised her wrist, as his face was filled with immense joy.
He did not despise her for being handicapped but he felt pained for her whenever her wrist brought her suffering every day.
Now everything is great. Her wrist was healed and there would no longer be a sight of her covered in swear and rolling on the ground with a pale face while in pain.
“Thank you Great Messenger for the pity!” When Lucas said that, he was about to go down on his knees.
Gu Mengmeng held Lucas up and smiled. “Maintain your pride as a bird and do not kneel so easily. If you really want to thank me, maybe you can do something else for me.”
“I am willing to take any commands from the Great Messenger.”
Gu Mengmeng said, “I want you to take over Gregory as the new leader of Motou Mountains and guard this place… until the next Messenger of the Beast Deity descends.”
Lucas frowned and said, “Sorry for my ignorance but when would the next Messenger descend?”
Gu Mengmeng, “About a millenium later.”
Lucas, “Great Messenger, even though I cannot count, I know how long a millenium is. Just a third-level beast like me probably could not live until then.”
Gu Mengmeng smiled gently and looked towards the young beast beside Miranda, and said, “You may not live until then but there’s still your son and your son would still have a son… With all your children and grandchildren, they would definitely live until that day.”
Lucas looked at Miranda. Seeing Miranda nod, he then placed his right arm before his left chest and bowed. Then, he said, “I shall follow the orders from the Great Messenger. Lucas would definitely complete this task.”
Gu Mengmeng nodded and said, “Alright, send me back to Elvis and Lea then.”
