Why can't I move? Why can't I look away from his eyes? Sany thought The king's eyes were getting bigger and brighter, and the world around them was getting darker. Sany felt like she was being sucked into space, into a void where nothing but those two red eyes existed.

And then Mr. Peru's voice rang into her ears. The king, started by the sound, blinked, and the things started to brighten up. The light in the sky started to return. It looked as if someone had started to pull off the black cloth that had covered the whole world. Sany quickly averted her eyes and started looking at the mosaic window, heart racing in her chest.

What was that feeling? she thought; why were her legs shaking?

"Did you make that noise?" King Darold Cadle said, eyeing her curiously.

But Sany didn't look into his eyes. Instead, she focused on his forehead. "Yes. I sometimes do that."

"Get me out," Mr. Peru screamed.

King Darold's eyes went big and wide.

Sany covered her mouth, faking embarrassment. "Shut up, Mr. Peru," she hissed. Although she knew that Mr. Peru had saved her just now by divulging the king's attention, Sany wanted the red parrot to stay quiet. At least for a while.

She heard the little creature crackle from inside her bag. Oh, no, Sany thought; he is planning to do something.

"Are you alright?" Dev asked.

"I'm alright," Sany said, "I gues--"

"I feel like exercising," Mr. Peru's voice squeaked. "Guess, I should raise my right hand."

You idiot, Sany thought and raised her right hand while she tried to sync her lips with Mr. Peru's words.

King Darold blinked at her, clearly surprised.

"I might raise my left hand too," Mr. Peru said.

Sany followed his orders, still trying to make it look like she was the one who was speaking those words.

"Now my both hands will be up together," Mr. Peru said.

Sany did it.

"Now I'll lift my left leg up," Mr. Peru said. "And my right leg too."

Sany was now dancing around the room.

"Now I feel like raising my both legs up!" Mr. Peru's voice rang out of the bag.

"That's not possible you idiot!" Sany screamed and started hugging her bag as tightly as she could. "I'm sorry where were we?" Sany asked while she tightly squeezed her bag.

"Are you really from the future?" King Darold asked, looking at her in a way one would look at a rabid dog. Dev, the guy in the purple cloak, didn't say a thing.

Sany continued to squeeze her bag. "I'm."

"Could you tell us what would happen to our kingdom in the future?" King Darold asked.

"Sure, I-I don't want to make you wait. But I'm not feeling good. I would like to take a... uh... a respite."

King Darold looked at Dev and then back at her. "Sure. Sure," he said. "Dev, take her to guestr--"

Dev cleared his throat.

"I mean. There is a room empty on the third floor. Please escort her to that room. "

"Understood, my lord," Dev said. He turned to Sany. "This way."

And they left the hall.

Darold was sitting in the throne, thinking about Sany. More than five minutes had passed since Dev had left with Sany. He heard footfalls and turned his head and stared as Dev entered the huge room.

"That girl," Darol said, "is a bit eccentric. Don't you--"

"What happened? This was not what we had planned," Dev said, cutting him off. "You didn't use your thing on her?"

"She was not looking directly in my eyes. I couldn't do a thing," Darold said in an aloof tone.

"We could have used force," Dev said.

Darold abruptly stood up. "Force? Force? I knew I hired the wrong people. I know you didn't notice it, but a lot of surge was flowing through her body... no doubt. She is a black-apple user."

Dev just stood there. Then he pulled down his hood, revealing his scarred face. "So?"

"So, I couldn't take any chance with her. We don't know her abilities." Darold voice was bitter, and he was throwing his hands in the air like a kid who hadn't gotten his way. "We'll have to wait for your sister come back."

"My sister?" Dev said. "Why her? I can get the job done, too. Let me handle the girl."

"No," Darold said, "We can't take any chances. Once your sister returns, ask her to send that girl to sleep. Okay?"

Dev just stared at him.

"Okay?"

"Okay," Dev said and put his hood back over his head. "I'll do it." He turned around and started marching back toward the door.

Darold slumped back in his throne. "Damn it. And I had thought that being a king would be fun."
