A dragon?! Did they even exist in the first place? Aside from the typical Komodo Dragon and a few animals also called dragon when they are just monitor lizards, nothing else except the fantasy-born dragons that breath fire and flies in the sky with their mighty and large wings. But I don't believe the dragons that Moonlight is talking about are the dragons that are told in fairy tales.

I followed Moonlight to a spiraling staircase that extends downwards. It was quite a very long staircase that I was not sure whether the staircase leads to a library or the oblivion. We descend the staircase without encountering any magical like I hoped to see which is pretty disappointing.

The spiraling staircase is not that long anyway, it's just a bit of long but it isn't that long that it takes hours to descend. Moonlight flicks her fingers and a small ball of light appeared and floated around us which gave us light in the dark passage. It was much brighter than fluorescent light and a torch which makes it easier to look around our surroundings without bumping into something.

"Don't touch too much around Kazuma, we might as well avoid triggering any traps around here," Moonlight said to me.

"There are traps placed in this abandoned library? Why? There isn't too much value in here to guard against anyway," I looked around for anything that might be worth to steal in this place.

"It's not only money and valuable treasures are worth stealing Kazuma. For magicians, tomes and other knowledge are also valuable materials worth stealing by others. And it was a common occurrence so its not that rare for other magicians stealing books and such to other magicians. And it was a very frustrating one so most magicians who own places like this place traps to trap trespassers here and there. I know this place like the back of my hand so you shouldn't touch anything unless I said so, alright?" Moonlight explained.

"Yes, very clear," I said.

We continue to the passage until we arrived at the location. The place is big and with the ball of light that Moonlight had cast earlier, I managed to see the place and I was amazed because it is like a huge archive of old books. It was so big that you can compare it to an entire floor of a shopping mall. There are also hovering books above that seem to be flapping like birds though they don't look like one at all due to their flat bodies and their hardcovers that don't look good to see. The way the books flap looks awkward to me.

"Ignore those books. They are the books and tomes that Catmod usually uses and reads every day so they are flapping their pages around so that when Catmod needs to read any of them, they will just fly towards him," Moonlight said to me as we continue moving onward to the shelves of books.

I can see the books placed on the shelves as very old ones and most of them had titles that seemed to be on Latin which made me not able to understand what the words on most books here. Just like what Moonlight said, I did not touch anything but gave the books only a glance. It took us a few minutes going here and there around the library. It was like a labyrinth disguised as a library. Maybe its a design used to trap trespassers?

After a few turns, we stopped on a shelf. Unlike the shelves full of books, this one only has at least 10 books on it. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

"Where are the books here?" I asked.

"Ah, see those books flying here and there? Those books mostly belongs in here. I can tell by their covers that those books flying around would be the books that belonged on this shelf. Look at the shelf symbol, most of those books has a symbol printed on them," Moonlight said.

I moved to the side and checked the side of the shelf and saw a lion print on it. I look up and focused on the nearest flying book. Since the cover is facing in our direction, I can see that the cover indeed has a lion print, identical to the book shelf's print.

"Wow, how did you know all of this?"

"It pays to work here in the past. After familiarizing myself with all of the books here for three years, I can easily find what book I need by just looking at their hardcover. Not too shabby right?"

I nodded in response. Then, I remembered Moonlight saying when I was still suffering from the effects of the necklace that she also knows how I feel in the past. So that means she is also a student of Catmod in the past? Well, all clues fall into place. She is a student of Catmod once.

Moonlight scans around the books on the shelves and pulls out one. It was in Latin so I don't know how to read the book she just grabbed.

"Can you read this Kazuma?" Moonlight showed me the book. It has a cover of a dragon symbol and large gold-colored letters printed on the cover. With weird patterns around it plus the old looks of the book, I can say that this book is at least a few hundred years old.

"Figures enough, wait, let me translate it for you," Moonlight said and shook the book a bit.

"Hmm, German...Chinese, Korean, Ancient Hieroglyphs..."

Moonlight mumbles here and there. Just what she was currently doing in the book? After a few shakes, she nodded and shows it to me. I was surprised because the letters that were clearly in Latin language is now on Japanese characters. I can understand this now.

"Codex of Ancient Species and Mythical Creatures Volume 1"

A codex of ancient species? There is a book like this?

"This book is a limited edition and only those rich enough managed to grab a copy of this and Nekoyama-sama is one of those guys who managed to grab the book. We can search for the species that the egg belongs to. Now its already translated to Japanese, shall we get into it?"

"Is it okay to check this book without Catmod's permission?" I asked.

"I have the authority to read books here but I can't take it out of here so we have to check the content of this book here. Let's take a look over there," Moonlight pointed on the tables near the shelves.

There were other books here but they were all not easy to understand so I didn't bother checking what their contents are. Moonlight started to check for the species of the egg. There are different eggs in there that belonged to creatures which are mostly creatures available only in games, novels, and movies. I pointed a few of them and Moonlight confirmed that they indeed existed. We scanned the whole book, however, not a single one of the creatures listed on the book corresponds with the egg that I found.

"That is strange, mostly, if we check the species of this egg in volume 1, we can easily find what species it was. However, does this egg is a rare one?" Moonlight mumbled to herself.

"Is there any Volume 2 of this book?" I asked. If there is a volume 1, there should be volume 2.

"Unfortunately, only Nekoyama-sama has the authority to read the book. I don't have the authority to check the book at all," Moonlight sighed disappointedly.

"Huh? The authority you have is not enough to check the book?"

"It's a high tier book and according to Nekoyama-sama himself, the book contains items that even magicians have a restriction on who can view the book's contents. We need to ask Nekoyama-sama himself for access to the book."
