When I woke up, Violet was gone, I became restless upon seeing no sign of her.

"Violet?" I called out to her.

Since I can move my body now, I stood up and went out of the cave. "Violet!"

I became nervous, I didn't feel good about this. Where the hell did she go?!

Huh? A mark?

I approached the tree as I saw a mark on it. Could this be... Violet's doing?

I looked around and saw another mark on the following tree trunk. I noticed that it was leading to somewhere that's why I quickly followed the markings on the trunk until it stopped.

Where? Where's the next mark?

I keep on looking around until I felt like I stepped on something.

I pulled back my foot and saw a hairpin... This is Violet's hairpin...

I picked it up and looked around. "VIOLET!"

I need to find her! I need to know that she's fine!

If only I was more attentive, I could have felt Violet earlier, I could have stopped her from leaving. If something was to happen to her, I will never forgive myself. I was supposed to protect her!

"Luke!"

Upon hearing my name called by a familiar voice, I instantly turned and saw Charles. Just like me, he looked restless and worried.

I was about to open my mouth when I was suddenly pulled into a hug, I was surprised by this.

"I'm glad you're safe..."

He's... worried about me?

That's not important right now! What's important is I have to go find Violet!

I leaned back from him and looked up at him. "I need to find Violet, Charles. I need to go find Violet now!"

"She's not with you?"

"She was with me last night but when I woke up earlier, she was gone!"

I saw how dark Charles face went, he turned his back on me. "Gabriel, go take Luke to the villa. Dennis, Plato, both of you will follow me, we're going for a hunt."

There were three men standing in front of Charles, they all looked like they were about the same age as him. They weren't wearing armors but their clothes looks expensive, they must be some noblemen, right?

"I want to come!"

"No, you can't. It's too dangerous. Those bandits are not an ordinary bandit group."

"Then won't you be able to defeat them if only the three of you go? Let me go!"

I suddenly felt a pat on my head.

"Calm down, kid. Your father and us are enough to handle them. Even your father can handle them alone." The guy named Gabriel said. "Lets go."

I was hesitant, I wanted to go with them but if what he says is true, then I leave everything in Charles hand.

My father arrived with Violet the following day but since Violet was unconscious, he never left her side.

In the end... I realized that I was not strong enough to protect the people I care. If I have more power, this wouldn't happen. I need more power, no matter what kind of power it is but if it can help me protect her, then I don't care about anything else.

I wanted to watch over Violet until she wakes up but I have to receive the 'blessing' from my father's friends. I was been 'blessed' as a future watchdog, as a future member of their underground family.

It was supposed to be Violet but seeing that she'll have to be 'blessed' by these men, I am glad to take it from her.

Being 'blessed' by them was actually enduring the tortures they gave me. Knowing that I was an ogre, they 'blessed' me with these the whole day until they acknowledged me as the next watchdog after Charles. I will be taking his position once I graduate.

I rested the following day before I went to visit Violet. "Father, how's Violet?"

"She's fine. She just needs to rest."

"I.. I'm sorry if I wasn't able to protect her.. She was captured because of my lack of--

"It's not your fault, Luke."

I lowered my head and clenched my fists. That was not true.

"May I know what happened?"

"Lets not talk about this here. Lets go to my office."

"Daddy.." Her voice was weak and my heart ached upon seeing her this way.

She shook her head.

She doesn't want me to learn what happened? Why? What happened?

Charles went back to her side. "Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?"

I stood there and watched Charles take care of Violet.

I'm so useless... I turned and left.

After learning what happened to Violet, my body burned with anger. Angry to those filthy bastards and angry to myself.

I promised that I wouldn't let anyone taint her and yet, it was because of me that those bastards were able to get a hold of her.

Because of all of the guilt and anger I felt, I didn't slept for the following days. I wanted to see her, I wanted to apologize to her but at the same time... I was not brave enough to see her, I was not brave enough to see her gaze full of hate on me.

Violet never left her room. Whenever I tried my best to see her, I would end up standing in front of her room's door. I wanted to knock and enter but knowing that she'll hate me, she'll blame me for what happened, I lose courage and left.

Until one night, I was surprised to see her in the living room. "Violet? Why are you still awake?"

I was thankful of the dark surroundings since I won't be able to see the way she look at me. My chest tightens as I thought that the girl I love would be hating me.

She lowered her head. "I... couldn't find daddy's room. I wanted to... sleep in his room tonight."

"Father is not here right now."

"He's not here? But he was here earlier."

Stop being a coward Luke! You can obviously see that she look scared and she needs someone right now!

I walked towards her. Even if she pushes me away, even if she hates me, I will stay by her side. I don't care if she does not want me, I promise to stay by her side no matter what.

"He went to take care of something. Don't worry, he'll be here in the morning." I patted her head. I was glad that she wasn't avoiding me.

"You should go back to sleep. Come, let me bring you back to your room."

"Okay..."

I accompanied her back to her room.

Upon reaching her room, she went up to her bed and laid down there. I fixed the blanket and pulled it up to her chin.

Making sure that she's comfortable, I turned to leave.

"Luke!"

I stopped and turned to her, seeing the terrified look on her face made me worried. "What's wrong?"

"Please... don't leave." She sat down and held her blanket. "I... I'm scared."

She wants me here... Does that mean that she doesn't hate me?

I went and sat on the edge of her bed. "Okay. I will stay here as long as you want."

She laid down and held my hand, the terrified look she had earlier was now gone. I was glad that the things that I expected her to do to me didn't happen... My Violet, why is she this kind?

She should blame me for not being able to protect her! She should tell me that I was useless... She should be hating me...

"I heard what happened from father... I'm sorry if I wasn't able to protect you." I lowered my head and pursed my lips.

If I was there, I will never allow anyone to touch her. I would kill them before they can do that, I will give my life to protect her.

"It's not your fault, Luke."

I felt my heart being pricked when I heard her say that.

Seeing the look on her eyes, I know that she means it... But it was my fault, I know it is. "You should sleep now, Violet."

"Promise not to leave me even if I fall asleep."

"Okay. I won't leave even when you fall asleep."

She moved away from me and put a space beside her. "Then lie down beside me."

"Are you sure?" I hesitated, I know how wary she became with men. Would it be okay for her if I come closer to her?

She nodded.

The way she looked at me, she trusted me. I am not a good man, I want her and I've always wanted to feel her. I feel guilty when she looked at me with those eyes.

In the end, I laid down beside her. I turned and faced her as I held her hand firmly. "Now sleep."

I do not deserve to be by her side but even so, I will stay with her.

Seeing her look at me made my body burn. I need to put her to sleep so that I can leave.

"Violet. I said sleep" I said sternly.

"Luke.. I am honestly afraid right now."

"You don't have to be afraid, I'm here." Yes, I will always be here.

"I know. It's just… I'm afraid that if I fall back to sleep, I'll have the same dream all over again. E-Every night I keep on having nightmares about it...I couldn't sleep afterwards, and I would only fall asleep when my eyes grew tired. Tonight, my nightmare was at its worst. I cried and tried calling for help, but no one came. That scared me, that's why I planned on sleeping together with daddy tonight. I know that he'll be my refuge against my nightmares, because he heard me when I needed him. He was there."

I know... I know that Charles is your hero... but I couldn't help feel the jealousy rise in my chest. I wanted to be that hero for her. If I was the one who went there, I would be her hero. I would have given those bastards a cruel death. I will make them learn that they shouldn't be touching what's mine.

My pure and innocent Violet is too good for this disgusting world. I need to keep her away from everyone. I need to get stronger so that one day, I can bring her to my castle. I can pamper her, I can protect her from all the flies that tries to approach her.

"I feel disgusting. Filthy. I couldn't help but feel bad about myself whenever I wake up from those nightmares."

That's not true. I caress her cheek, wiping off her tears.

"You are not disgusting or filthy, Violet. No matter what happens, you are still purest in my eyes. The way I see you will never change just because of a tragedy such as that."

Yes, no matter what, she will always be the girl I love. I will make sure that she knows how loved she is... I will make sure to make her realize how much I love her.

I smiled gently as I stared into her eyes. I will never leave you nor hate you, Violet.

Upon hearing her loud cries, I pulled her in my eyes, gently stroking her head.

She fits perfectly in my arms, the scent of a sweet pea flower was all over her... This was her scent and I love it. Just like this, I wish to protect her this way, never letting her go from my arms.

I patiently comforted her until she finally calms down.

"All men are monsters... Except Daddy and Luke."

Yes, you don't need any other men except for us.

I leaned back and wiped her face with the blanket. "Crying doesn't suit you, you know."

She pouted, "I don't care!"

I chuckled. She looks better after she cried everything out. Because of this, I made another promise, I will not allow her to cry like this ever again... for her I am willing to make a lot of promises and fulfill it all throughout my life no matter what.

"Although Luke is an ogre but Luke is more human than human themselves."

I smiled. That's... not true... But I want her to see me as someone she can trust. I will try my best to control my urges.

"I noticed You stopped calling me big brother"

"Ah... Did I?"

"Mm."

"How rude of me.. I'm sorry brother..."

I watched her yawn and close her eyes. How adorable.

"It's okay, I don't mind. You can stop calling me your brother."

"Mm... brother Luke" she mumbled.

I smiled a bit as I watch her fall asleep. "I am not your brother... I will make you mine once you get old enough, Violet."

I leaned and placed a kiss on her forehead before I casted a spell on her. Those nightmares she had, I will erase them. I will never let her have those kind of dreams again.

After casting a spell, I saw how peaceful her face became, even a small smile appeared on her lips... Ahh, those lips that I wanted to badly taste...

I leaned, placing a gentle peck on her lips, it was as soft as I imagined. I wanted to kiss her more. Her scent was driving me crazy but I have to hold back. I must not scare her away, I must not betray her trust.

I leaned back and sighed.

Seeing that Violet was in a deep sleep, I went out of her bed and returned to my room.
