Chapter 6: On Land

“Who? The big man with the troublesome brain?” Near the shore of the shallow area, a giant beast sadly sighed.

After leaving the oceanic trench, following the giant whale’s memory, Sui Xiong departed towards the inland and quickly arrived at this shore.

The scenery in this place was not good. The entire coast was covered in black mud. A stinky rotten smell could be sensed from far away. This was indeed a huge mud pond.

Sui Xiong really didn’t like this kind of situation. But he didn’t have any other choices. According to the giant whale’s memory, the land around this area was just black mud, everywhere was like this.

The giant whale wasn’t curious much. It was its habit to swim around the sea. However, it had also wandered around this coastline many times for two or three days consecutively. There was nothing different among the places that it had passed by.

Therefore, Sui Xiong could only sigh, and direct this huge peculiar jellyfish body to swim to the coastline.

He wasn’t worried about the problem of lacking nutrition or being dried up. Even if this jellyfish died, it wouldn’t affect him much. Not to mention that he had continually strengthened its skin, which was from the solid outer layer of the giant whale. It completely could block any air in its body from leaking.

However, he had missed a big issue.

Once he got out of the water, without the buoyancy of the sea water, the huge and heavy body of the giant beast was an annoying problem.

Just now he had made an attempt to get out of the water. Even though he couldn’t completely get out of the water, only half of his body came out of water. The huge weight of the body pulled down the weight of tentacles deep into the sea mud, which made every step he took become extremely difficult. If he completely got out of the water, he would probably not be able to take even half of a step.

Maybe he could have relied on forcing the formidable power to open up the path. Even though every step that he made had always left a big hole on the ground, he still progressed one step forward. However, doing this didn’t only waste his strength but it also appeared really stupid.

Walking here also meant digging ground...

Sui Xiong didn’t want to do some kinds of foolish things like that. Hence, he just had to use his brain, tried to think of a solution to solve this problem.

After thinking again and again, he finally found a solution out of his desperation.

Since the body is already heavy, moving is inconvenient, then how about reducing the size of the body, reducing the weight. Can’t this work?

He had broken down the structure of the muscles and bones in the body once again into nutritious elements, then compressed these nutrient elements, hence reducing the weight and size of his body.

This absolutely went against the biological knowledge as well the matter of the quality preservation. On earth, the possibility of this happening was literally zero. But there was nothing impossible in this world.

Still, the annoying thing was that the process of conversion would waste a lot of nutrition.

Sui Xiong didn’t want this kind of waste. However, because he needed to get to the mainland, find human beings and meticulously inquire about this world’s situation, he had no other choices.

The giant body of the sea monster shook fiercely, then quickly reduced its size. After a period of time, the sea monster’s body, which was as huge as a mountain, was reduced one percent smaller than it was before.

According to the information from the giant whale’s memory, his current big head was not that much different from an ordinary fisherman of a small fishing boat.

On the contrary, Sui Xiong wanted to reduce this body a lot smaller. But his body at the moment couldn’t be reduced anymore. The flesh and bone structure outside, which he had wanted to shed some more, were made of highly concentrated nutritious components. That meant that there was no room for any further compressions.

“Although it is still big, I will just settle for this size....”

While sighing, the same enormous jellyfish, the so-called giant beast in the sea, took a big step, used its ten tentacles to support its body, crossed the sea mud pond, and then climbed onto the mainland.

The sea mud pond couldn’t be counted as a barrier to Sui Xiong. Under his command, one by one tentacle alternatively walked through the beach towards the forest.

This forest appeared a little bit odd. The soil was good. The vegetation was fine as well. It was just that everything was in a grayish black hue, which was not much different from other black shade. While walking in the forest, Sui Xiong could somewhat feel a strong gloomy power muddy yet chaotic, hovering around, which made him feel a little bit uncomfortable.

“What a strange dark power. In the giant whale’s memory, it has never been to this place. It seems that this mainland is quite special.” While moving forward, Sui Xiong also sensed the situation around him as well, “So strange, how can there be so little creatures in this forest? The vegetation here is clearly luxuriant, while there aren’t many insects living here. What exactly is happening?”

His spirit was very strong. Even the giant whale, which he was not clearly sure for how long it had lived, couldn’t catch up. Even though he didn’t put all of his forces into sensing, he could clearly sense everything through the blowing breeze that came from several miles away. Through his sensing, he clearly discovered that even though the vegetation in this forest was very lush, it was short of animals and insects, which bewildered him a lot.

In the big natural world, if there were plants, they would have been food for the herbivores. Then the herbivores would be food for the carnivores. Therefore, they formed a food chain. If there wasn’t any animal, it at least should have relatively formidable insects. But the situation inside this forest was completely opposite to the basic biological knowledge he had known. It was too bizarre to believe.

It had been a long time since he was in this world. In this vast sea, he had been through many places and obtained many spirits, also gotten the Giant Horned Whale’s memory. But no matter how hard he had searched in the giant whale’s memory, it also had never seen such a strange phenomenon like this.

Let alone the fact that the giant whale had never encountered such a strange dark air that presented here. He somewhat guessed that there was something wrong.

“What the hell is this place... isn’t it because of the dark power’s chaos of a thing called the “Restricted Area” was born?”

In this world, there was also an existence of a “Restricted Area”. That kind of place was either the habitat of the powerful to extraordinary horrifying monsters. Or it had chaotic, intense and profound dark powers which made other people unable to stand it. It was called the Life Restricted Areas, where the majority of the creatures wavered to enter.

For example, the oceanic trench, where he had just cultivated not too long ago, was a “Restricted Area.”

The strange appearance of this forest completely gave off an exact “Restricted Area” feeling. It was just that Sui Xiong didn’t think that this world would have some kinds of fancy “Restricted Area” -----it didn’t have lots of impacts on the vegetation, while it was extremely unfriendly towards the animals.

The bad thing was that the body he was using right now was also considered as an animal.

After he was aware of this point, he immediately became cautious, increased his sense towards the surroundings, and didn’t dare to neglect any possible dangers.

Although his true form was actually a spirit, maybe he didn’t need to be afraid of the danger inside of the “Restricted Area”. But how could he know if he could have made things worse?

Caution is the parent of safety!

Then he carefully went on for a long distance but he still didn’t encounter any dangers. On the contrary, there were now more insects around him. Sui Xiong at this moment recognized that he might have been wrongly anticipated and had been too careful.

The reason why the animals and insects in this forest were thinly populated was probably not because there were any dangers, but because they didn’t like the sea environment.

Sui Xiong had mistaken Feng Jing as Ma Liang, which was just a small joke.

Fine, there was only him here. If he wanted to make a joke, he could freely make one. There wouldn’t be anyone mocking him.

After mocking himself, Sui Xiong was finally at ease and kept on going further.

The black forest was immense. Since noon when he had put his feet on the shore, he had been going straight till the evening, but he also couldn’t get out of this forest. Sun had set, moon also rose. Even though the night couldn’t affect Sui Xiong’s actions, due to his habit, he had to find a clear spot to rest temporarily.

‘Going during the daytime and resting at nighttime’ was the habit he was trying to keep, which was not only because of the safety but also because he wanted to keep a little trace of a “Human”.

During this time being, Sui Xiong realized that he had gotten used to this beast’s lifestyle and had gradually forgotten his old human lifestyle. This had made him somewhat feel insecure. Therefore, he tried his best to at least work and rest like a human being. It was not because he had wanted to do this for anyone. He merely wanted to remind himself that he was really not a beast but a “Human”.

On an empty land where plants didn’t grow, the ground was completely dark. The intense, chaotic dark power in the air was getting much denser. The reason Sui Xiong chose to rest here was in fact that he wanted to give it a try.

If this forest was really bizarre, something strange might soon happen on this empty land.

He was patiently waiting under an ancient tree on the border of the empty land.

As expected, not too long after, when the last sunlight of the noon had disappeared into the horizon, a strange phenomenon suddenly happened in the forest.

Threads of dark energy ascended, one by one, from the ground like mist slowly covered the big area of the earth.

Sui Xiong could clearly see the dark energy on that block of empty land had already thickened, was no longer threads but flows of dark energy like small streams.

He was on his guard, ready to fight.

As the dark energy was getting denser and denser, the muddy and chaotic dark power in the air slowly thickened as well, especially on the empty land. Even bare eyes could see the dark power that was gradually condensing, blending in with the black fog and turning into, group by groups, of moving whirlpool.

After a while, the ground slowly cracked, black skeletons showed up one after the other.

“What is this? Disasters from the deceased soul?” Sui Xiong was thunderstruck. He didn’t expect that he would see this kind of fancy toy. He immediately carefully observed these skeletons. He then discovered that they couldn’t bring any feelings of danger towards him, they somehow didn’t appear that strong.

He waited for more of the skeletons to come out for a while. As time passed by, they had stacked themselves into a pile, getting denser. He stood still in that place. It was as if he was in a daze.

“These skeletons... what on earth has happened?”

Sui Xiong didn’t act recklessly. Instead, he kept waiting patiently.

After the number of skeletons had reached a certain number, the ground stopped pouring out the skeletons. On the other hand, the muddy and chaotic dark power in the air started to condense toward those skeletons gradually.

Sui Xiong could feel that even though the speed was not fast, this dark power was being absorbed by these skeletons, little by little.

This situation lasted for a whole night, till the moon was about to fall, the dawn started to slowly emerge from the horizon. The ground cracked once again. The entire skeleton’s group retreated to the ground. That thick and highly concentrated dark power as well as the dark energy had hurriedly dispersed as well.

When the sun had shone once more, the forest had recovered its original form.

Sui Xiong didn’t leave, but stayed back behind on the empty land, waiting till the next evening.

On the second night, he saw that situation repeating once more.

When the sunlight had shone down on the earth, these skeletons went back to the empty land again. Sui Xiong couldn’t stand but laugh.

This situation was truly extremely weird, yet extremely interesting as well!
