Throughout the room dozens of alien and strange creatures were created by the AR system. Nothing was too terribly dangerous even though there were some teenagers who were participating in the party on this night. The system could create truly dangerous creatures potentially but that was turned off for the party. It would not be good for the system to malfunction or a bug to appear that could cause an accidental death.

The roars of different creatures echoed across the room into Altair's ears. It caused her brow to furrow as she had never heard of such an arrangement of noises from wildlife before. Altair kneeled down and put her ear to the ground to try and find the location of the nearest creature. She had some skill in hunting large beasts from her old world and this was how she would usually find them: through the vibrations caused by their movements.

Sure enough, there was a couple nearby from what she could tell of the vibrations reaching her. One of them was moving towards the other that was moving in a different direction than the approaching one. They were both about thirty meters away, though Altair couldn't see them due to the dense trees in that direction. However, it was strange that none of them had been created near her. According to what was announced one of them should have been generated close to her for her to fight, instead two of them were converging in the same area.

Either way, it was the direction she decided to go.

Nearby was an adolescent dressed in dark clothing who was faced against a large creature that was reminiscent of a crab. It almost three meters tall while being five meters wide including its leg span with four pinchers instead of two. It was covered in scales on its main body. This creature was difficult to deal with when unarmed due to it being able to just grab you if you got too close in the blink of an eye. The adolescent cursed his luck as he just happened to be unarmed and was forced to deal with this thing. He wasn't sure if he would be able to take it down.

Unknown to the adolescent and the creature he was facing down, was another creature that was watching them both. It was a Barndol Bear and it, along with the Karp Crab, were on full display for all of the adult nobles on the ledges above. This situation was supposed to be impossible as two creatures were clearly hunting one child at the same time without the second creature getting tricked into attacking the kid.

A Barndol Bear was an unarmed fighters nightmare in most cases. They were five meters tall when standing on their hind legs and over two meters tall when on all fours. With the strength to tear apart a cruiser with its bear claws and the endurance to withstand cold weapon attacks for long periods of time it was suggested to either run away from it when encountered or use energy weaponry to take it down.

Every Barndol Bear was covered in dense green fur, had two rows of razor sharp teeth, and spikes grooved onto its paws that would dig into its prey to prevent it from escaping. Furthermore, Barndol Bear's were extremely territorial and highly aggressive creatures of the barrier worlds.

Of course, Barndol Bears were only really dangerous to unarmed fighters at the third tier of martial prowess and below, the Praefecti. There were some Praefecti nobles in participation of the event today but that was not what the prey the bear was aiming for was at.

As the youth slowly backed away from the Karp Crab, the Karp Crab watched him with beady little eyes. After getting eight meters away from it, the Karp Crab suddenly rushed towards him while giving out a strange gurgled cry. At the same moment, the Barndol Bear broke through the trees in front of it and barreled towards the Karp Crab without warning.

The Karp Crab had a fatal weakness when it was on land: it was terrible at turning around. With the Barndol Bear rushing towards its side, the Karp Crab tried to turn towards it but failed miserably as the Barndol Bear slammed into it with all of its weight, pinning it to the ground. The Barndol Bear immediately roared its dominance before it started tearing into its defenseless body.

The youth was stunned at the sight of two beasts in front of him. He had yet to see anyone else and suddenly a second, more dangerous, beast had come out of the forest in front of him. It wasn't unusual for AR generated creatures to attack other AR generated creatures. It was designed to be as realistic as possible with restrictions being variable. It seemed that they were allowed to attack each other for this event.

The youth cursed his luck even harder than before though. He was already likely unable to be able to deal with the Karp Crab but now a Barndol Bear had shown up. He wasn't an Elemental Inborn Ability user and wasn't strong enough to fight such a beast while unarmed. Even if he had a weapon he was sure he would still lose to it. He took the chance while it was still attacking the Karp Crab to attempt to slip away.

He turned and started to sneak away into the trees while wondering what kind of error could have caused him to get caught by two beasts at once right at the start.

The system had indeed encountered an error. It did not have any safeguards in place to handle people it could not track but knew were in the area. The person it couldn't track was Altair and it knew that Altair was there because the hard number that the engineers put in with confirmation from the guards. They did not anticipate someone who did not have any Spiritual Energy that the system could use to identify them and keep track of where they were. There were Inborn Abilities that let people conceal their Spiritual Energy. But it was common knowledge to let the organizers of this type of event know that you could do that so they could put a special tag on you that the system could then use to keep track of where you are. Even if one person didn't do that, they would just not activate their Inborn Ability which would allow the system to properly track them.

The nobles around the arena noticed this anomaly fairly quickly and started loudly discussing it. They wondered if it was a blunder on the Lothan family's part that allowed such an error to happen. They quickly started looking over the condition of their own children to make sure that they were safe. They were also worried about the fact that a Barndol Bear had appeared during the event.

A Barndol Bear was not something that most adolescents could deal with unless they had energy weapons. It would take a team of teenagers to be able to take it down with cold weapons. It should not have been possible for it to appear in this event because it wasn't a team based event. This only furthered the idea amongst the nobles that it was an error.

Sarah, Helena, and Gordon arrived at the gathering of nobles watching over the arena. All of the nobles were split into their own little groups watching what was happening in the event through their own transparent screens. Sarah had no time to pay them any attention as she needed to find Walter to block all images of Altair from being shown to any of the nobles.

As they were walking by a group they overheard them discussing the Barndol Bear and Karp Crab being made in the same area. This caused Sarah's expression to darken while Helena and Gordon looked confused.

Walter was not blind to the issue. He had heard the gossip through the servants that he had giving out dishes to the others and was equally confused. He already had his engineers looking over the system to try and find the cause. But the engineers were, so far, unable to find a problem even when looking over the relevant data. They would have never imagined it was a basic input error.

How could they find a problem when the system wasn't at fault though?

Please report us if you find any errors so we can fix it asap!
