Well, it was indeed terrifyingly warm. Even the frisky monkey felt the heat was a little too much to handle.
They were still dozens of kilometers from the light of the scarlet flames. Wouldn’t they melt if they went there?
Zhang Che was hesitant on whether to continue going forward.
-The flames ahead are burning very strangely. I better go take a look. If it’s too hot, I’ll just change to another direction…- Zhang Che thought for a short while. He recalled the frisky monkey into his spiritual sea, then urged the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to continue flying.
As Zhang Che had expected, as they drew closer to the fiery region ahead, the heat waves quickly shot up in temperature.
When the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon was within mere kilometers from the flaming mountain, both Zhang Che and the dragon felt the heat was becoming unbearable, and had no choice but to halt their advance.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon had been emitting wisps of cold aura from his body to combat the high temperature, making things much easier for Zhang Che. He wouldn’t have been able to make it this far otherwise.
The spread of scarlet flames connected the heavens and earth, like it was burning from underground. It spanned dozens of kilometer, the ends of the fire nowhere to be seen.
“Something is off with this fire…” Zhang Che furrowed his brow, feeling the scarlet flames ahead were very unusual.
From what he could see, the ground under the fire was burnt to golden yellow. Nothing could possibly support such a huge fire.
After thinking for a moment, Zhang Che summoned out the Scarlet Flame Drake. {TLN: Seems like author forgot about the drake’s fire resistance halo.}
“Go scout out the situation ahead. Come back immediately if there’s danger.”
The Scarlet Flame Drake was a fire-attributed subdued beast with the ability to wield innate fire elements. Naturally it wasn’t afraid of the flames ahead.
Zhang Che was worried there might be a powerful exotic beast in the fire. As such, he instructed the Scarlet Flame Drake to be as cautious as it could, and to run back to him once it came across any danger.
As the Scarlet Flame Drake appeared, it felt the concentrated fire elements present in the space, leaving it feeling incredibly comfortable. After receiving Zhang Che’s orders, it shook its golden crest and dashed off.
Zhang Che sat silently on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back, watching closely as the Scarlet Flame Drake ran forward, feeling somewhat nervous.
Although the Scarlet Flame Drake was sufficiently powerful, the flaming mountain ahead was too strange. Heavens knew if there were any epic-quality or higher exotic beasts in there…
If there was really an exotic beast inside the flames too powerful for the Scarlet Flame Drake to handle, it would become very difficult for that fellow to run back to Zhang Che.
Although it was no big deal for him to lose a legend-quality subdued beast or two given his current strength, as he could make it up in the future, he was someone who cherished the old times. Naturally he wasn’t willing to lose the Scarlet Flame Drake, who had been with him for months.
However, Zhang Che’s instincts were telling him that there might be great benefits in those flaming mountains ahead. He really wasn’t willing to pass it up without letting the Scarlet Flame Drake scout things out.

Although the Scarlet Flame Drake was scouting cautiously, it wasn’t moving slowly. About three minutes later, its scarlet-golden silhouette had found its way into the flames.
Zhang Che’s view blurred, losing sight of the Scarlet Flame Drake.
He knitted his brow slightly. In the next moment, he suddenly heard the Scarlet Flame Drake barking from inside the flames, its voice carrying a hint of wariness.
“So there really are exotic beasts inside!” Zhang Che’s heart tightened.
Fortunately, there wasn’t any fear in the Scarlet Flame Drake’s cry.
The exotic beast it had encountered shouldn’t be very powerful. There shouldn’t be any problems for now.

Inside the flames that seemed to burn space itself, the Scarlet Flame Drake was looking intently a short distance ahead at a weird creature with a humanoid figure, but a body made of flames.
Although it was a little apprehensive of the peculiar lifeform, the Scarlet Flame Drake’s eyes carried a hint of concealed excitement.
It was able to sense a pure fiery aura from that humanoid fire creature’s body!
The Scarlet Flame Drake knew instinctively that it would grow much stronger if it devoured the supernatural lifeform. The fire elements in its body would become much purer!
That humanoid fiery creature also discovered the Scarlet Flame Drake immediately after it barged in. It raised its head and let out a silent roar, breathing out a mouthful of scarlet fiery light and charged directly at the Scarlet Flame Drake.
Just as it took its first steps, a whip of flames suddenly appeared in the fiery creature’s arms. It lashed the whip at the Scarlet Flame Drake with a sharp crack.
A trace of fear dashed through the Scarlet Flame Drake’s eyes. It jumped nimbly, dodging the whip. It quickly charged afterwards, directly bulldozing its way into the fiery creature’s chest.
Even so, the humanoid fiery creature wasn’t afraid at all. The fiery long whip in its hands was like a nimble snake, twisting around in the air and continuing to lash at the Scarlet Flame Drake.
The Scarlet Flame Drake suddenly smiled craftily. It ignored the long whip about to hit its body. Instead, it further increased its speed and swiped its claw at the humanoid fiery creature’s throat.
With a loud smack, the long whip accurately struck the Scarlet Flame Drake.
A terrifyingly hot blaze erupted where the whip struck, but it didn’t hurt the Scarlet Flame Drake at all.
The Scarlet Flame Drake was a master of fire. How could it possibly be vulnerable to an attack of this degree? It was only trying to fool the creature earlier to get an opportunity to close in on it.
Seeing its attack had failed to accomplish anything, the humanoid fiery creature was stunned for a moment, not understanding why this invader wasn’t afraid of its whip attack. However, the Scarlet Flame Drake didn’t give it any time to think.
With a loud tearing noise, the Scarlet Flame Drake’s sharp claws swiped across the humanoid fiery creature’s throat. Sparks flew everywhere, and tongues of flowing flames that seemed to be its blood shot out from the wound.
After successfully landing an attack, the Scarlet Flame Drake didn’t give its opponent any time to catch its breath. It continued tearing with its sharp claws, directly dismembering the creature.
The creature was obviously a fantastical lifeform. It didn’t have any flesh and blood. Even though it was dismembered by the Scarlet Flame Drake, only flames scattered around.
In the end, the fiery creature disappeared without a trace, leaving only a fist-sized object that resembled a fruit seed on the burnt golden ground.
The fruit seed-like object was fully scarlet in color, with complicated and mysterious deep scarlet patterns faintly visible on it. Heat was spreading from it, as if it was formed from molten iron.
This object was most likely the core of that humanoid fiery creature. It was indeed a greatly beneficial tonic for the Scarlet Flame Drake. It swallowed the core without any hesitation, a satisfied look on its face.

Even so, there wasn’t a hint of fear in the Scarlet Flame Drake’s eyes.
It had just gotten a feel for these fiery creatures’ strength. There was no way they could be a threat to the Scarlet Flame Drake. Instead, they were only walking tonics for it!
It went without saying that the Scarlet Flame Drake was hoping for as much of this good stuff to appear as possible!
