VOLUME 3 CHAPTER 11 REWRITE

As for how I finally managed to save Zkocha, please use your own imagination.

We are currently sitting in a carriage, with Zkocha sitting opposite me and Tess beside him, all of us freshly clothed, heading out of the city.

“Tess saw a dream of what happened today last night, which is why we came to look for you.” Zkocha said to me. His attitude to me was still as dour as always but I don’t mind at all. To be frank, I’m already grateful that he isn’t beating me up right now.

“If you saw it then you should’ve come earlier and stopped the assassin before she attacked me…”

“It’s no use,” Zkocha interrupted me, “That was something that would have come to pass. Any interference would not have changed the final result.”

“… Haha…” I could only laugh in response, “Then what else have you come to look for me for if you couldn’t stop me anyway…”

To kill me? I thought but didn’t voice this thought.

“You’re a human. How did you end up getting involved with demons?”

“They came to find me.”

“The demon came to find you?”

“Un, she appeared before me in my likeness and asked me if I wanted power, I said I did and so we sealed a contract.”

“!! What kind of contract?”

“Ah?”

“What were the terms?”

“They’re———-”

@&:))(;.!@@)(;(£$&$)(;:&&€£¥}%{*]]’]}|^#€=+———-

To be clear, what just happened to me was that when I was about to say what the terms of the contract were, it seemed like the sound of thousands of nails scratching chalkboard filled my ears and I couldn’t stop it no matter how much I tried to cover my ears.

I also saw a vision where I was being consumed by flames which burnt my innards and I saw in full detail my blackened stomach and charred intestines. Needles pierced me, from between my nails and through my entire arm. Water filled my nostrils and my lungs which made it impossible for me to breathe.

These were all illusions but they kept playing on and off. I’d see Tess one moment and then be swallowed by the sea in next. I’d see Zkocha one moment and then fall into a furnace the next. These illusions were clearly fake but the sensations I felt were lifelike.

I don’t know if I was yelling, as the sound of nails against chalkboard covered everything. Only Zkocha charged at me and held me down did I realise that I was banging my head against the carriage.

“Have you gone mad!?” When I heard his yell, I realised the sound was gone.

“… I,” I said between deep breaths, “I can’t say.”

“The terms of the contract?”

“Un…”

“… Is there something stopping you from doing so?”

I nodded as sweat dripped down my chin. That’s right, the hellish experiences I just went through are probably punishment for my intention to divulge the terms of the contract.

“Looks like the contract has some rather strong prohibitions,” Zkocha thought for a moment before asking, “Can you write it?”

“Geh… You want me to try?”

“Try it.”

“I, I don’t think it can work.” I didn’t want a repeat of what happened. Those illusions were far too lifelike and the sound that filled my ears seemed like they could male my head explode.

“If I don’t know what the terms are, it will be difficult for me to purify you.”

“Purify?”

“That is the reason why I came to look for you.” Zkocha said, “To prevent you from falling further and bringing harm to the world, I will sever your relations with demons and cleanse you.”

“Can that even be done…?”

“I don’t know, we should try it.”

“Wait, right!” A sudden epiphany came to me, “Tess! Have you managed to see a dream of a successful purification?”

If she has, then it can definitely be done. Tess hasn’t spoken since she boarded the carriage and has been silently looking out of the window. When she heard me speak to her, she shifted her gaze to me and shook her head.

“The visions that the God of Fate sends to Tess are fragmented and there are no rules to them. What she receives is up to the whims of the God of Fate.” Zkocha said.

Looks like Tess hasn’t told him that she’s been seeing visions of my daily life for the past half a year. That sounds like a rule of sorts to me but I don’t know what could be the God of Fate’s intentions for doing so.

“Purification huh… So that’s why you’re bringing me to the Forest of Elves.”

“It can only be done there.” Zkocha said unhappily as he frowned, “I never thought that I’d allow you to step into the Forest a second time.”

“Geh, haha. Umm, what if the purification fails after we get to the Forest?” Regret instantly hit me after the question leaked out.

Zkocha gave me a pointed stare, as though he wanted to drill holes into me, “The revival of demons is something that has to be avoided at all costs for both humans and elves. Purification is the only way of preemptive action I can think of at this point. If it fails, then we can only count on the might of the elven race to kill you.”

“…” I wanted to smile to alleviate the heavy atmosphere that ensued but my facial muscles were very stiff for some reason.

“No.” Tess broke the silence.

“Un?”

“I won’t allow you to hurt Molan.” Tess said as she looked into Zkocha’s eyes, her hair dancing in the wind.

At this unexpected rebuttal, Zkocha blanched but he then gathered himself and asked, “Did you receive a prophecy about this?”

“No, but I will protect Molan.”

“Even if the demons revive and bring disaster to the continent!”

“That has nothing to do with Molan, you aren’t allowed to hurt him.”

“What do you mean ‘nothing to do’!? When the demons revive, it will be too late! All we can do before that is to kill him! No matter what the terms of the contract are, if one side dies, then the demon will not be able to revive!”

“Eh eh, please calm down you both. Everything will go fine, everything will go fine. I have a feeling that the purification will be a success and what Zkocha said will not be necessary.” I said as I held Tess’s shoulders and tried to get between them.

But when I touched the area in front of Tess, I felt wind. This lass casted wind wall without even saying a word. I really don’t know if I should cry or laugh.

To be honest, I agree with Zkocha. His decision is the correct one no matter how you look at it and Tess is just throwing a tantrum. But with a girl like this who protects you no matter what, even when you are a danger to the world, and stands in front of you like she’s your mother… What else can you say?

Tess is so cute, so cute that the galaxy could explode from her cuteness. If Zkocha isn’t around, I would definitely hug her.

“Tess,” For the sake of defusing the situation, I decided to change the topic, “How did you become big?”

That phrasing doesn’t sound quite right even to myself as the image of Tess’s wonderful body under the sun flashed in my mind.

“*Ke* *Ke*, you, how did you become an adult…”

No! That’s not right either! No matter how I ask it, it sounds strange! The image flashed across my head over and over again. I was so calm and unaffected back then when I saw it but why am I getting evil designs now!

“… How did… You… Become tall?”

What I really wanted to ask was how and why she became the young woman version of Tess. Zkocha seemed curious as well and looked at Tess.

“When I saw Molan,” Tess sank into silence for a moment before continuing, “When I saw Molan’s tail, my forehead became hot.” She said as she pressed on the cherry blossom mark on her forehead, “My memories came back and my body began to change.”

“I see…”

It was my tail and not me that caused her to change?

“In any case, it’s good that you’re back.”

Something feels weird but I’m not quite sure what it is. Tess didn’t speak any further and looked out of the window with a pensive mood. Before Zkocha was saved, she had the same expression as she does now. Is she feeling sad about what I did today?

I returned to my seat shakily as the carriage was shaking pretty badly.

… Am I… Missing something…?

Uneasiness filled my heart. Back when I found Tess in the headquarters of the cult, she didn’t tell me why she had to sacrifice herself to bring back Tina. Later on, after disrupting the transference, she became a little girl and lost her memories so she couldn’t answer me.

The burden of the Emissary’s mission was then split into 2, with 1 half going to Tina who was forcefully revived through receiving this and Tess didn’t disappear. I felt that this was a miracle, the best possible ending that came about through the power of demons and was relieved.

Why did Tess become a little girl after the transference was broken and only receiving half of the mission? And where did the lost memories come back from now that she is back in her original form?

“… Tess.” I said shakily, “… You… Do you know… Something?”

“We’re here.” Zkocha said as he opened the doors and got off, “Let’s go.”

We followed him off the carriage, which was stopped in front of a lake. I’ve been here before, you need to sink into the bottom to get to the Forest of Elves.

There was a shadow at the lake. Seems like he was waiting for us. His ears are long and pointed so he should be an elf.

“Greeting, your majesty.” He greeted Zkocha and bowed, “I have a report for your majesty, Headmaster Kester has brought a human with him and has been awaiting you for a while now in the guest palace.”

“Kester huh?” Zkocha smiled, “I haven’t seen that friend of mine in a while. But why did he bring a human with him? This is something unprecedented.”

“There have been many humans stepping into the Forest of late,” Zkocha said as he shot me a glance, “I pray that the mist that the Gods have granted will not be spoiled from this.”

“Will your majesty be receiving Headmaster Kester?”

“Un, I won’t be returning to my palace to change and will be seeing him directly. He must have an urgent reason to see me.”

“Acknowledged.”

The elven attendant led the way and I followed along. I happened to step ahead of Zkocha at one point and he stared at me so I retreated to his back. After a few steps, I realised that Tess hadn’t followed us and was standing at the spot grabbing her head.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as I went up to her and she raised her head revealing a tearful face, “What’s wrong!? What’s wrong!?” I asked frantically and wanted to rub her head to comfort her but she stepped back and avoided my hand.

“Sorry, Molan.” Tess said softly as tears ran down her cheeks.
