VOLUME 7 CHAPTER 13: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS SUN QUAN’S PREDICAMENT (11)

Liu Bei POV

As I sat in Bo Fu’s room which wasn’t particularly big, I craned my neck to look at the bed some distance away from where I was. The Little Conqueror– Sun Ce Sun Bo Fu, was currently lying on the bed behind Yu Ji and her breathing was weak, very weak. It was weak to the point where it wouldn’t be strange if she stopped breathing in the next moment.

I didn’t dare to move my eyes to look directly at Bo Fu. More than anyone else, I wanted to know what was going on and was terribly anxious.

Right in front of me was Yu Ji who sat calmly with a face that seemed like she knew and understood everything. At this time, she was slowly sipping tea from a cup for almost a minute or more now but she seemed like she had no intention of putting it down.

I wanted to ask her some questions but the words she jist said kept popping up in my head and I couldn’t say anything.

I leaned back ever so slightly and spied through the gap in the curtains Zhou Yu and the rest standing outside and looking inside. I can’t see what their expressions are like but I knew what they must be and the pressure I felt gave me a gastric attack. I had no choice but to endure the pain and do my best not to show any sign of weakness.

“Haa…” It was clear that Yu Ji didn’t know what I was thinking as she slowly separated the cup from her mouth and exhaled, showing how at ease she was.

She then looked at me, “Liu Bei Liu Xuan De, may I ask if you are satisfied with your present?”

“Eh?” I feigned ignorance at this sudden question, “May I ask what you mean by that?”

Yu Ji looked at me with a relaxed look as her lips curled up slightly, “You don’t need to put up an act. I know everything. Whether it is where you came from, what you’ve done and what you will do; I know it all, and I know it in great detail.”

Yu Ji’s words sounded like a bluff but I didn’t dare to call her bluff, and I’ve also guessed as much. Her presence, attire and demeanor is exactly like a deity, and her manner of speech is exactly like one too– Slightly mysterious and what she means seems unclear but that depended on who was listening.

“Alright.” I nodded, “I’m from the future, I came from the 21st century.”

“I know. I know everything you’ve been through so you can leave out an introduction.” She said as she chuckled. Even her laughter sounded so ethereal. If she really is a deity, I wouldn’t find it weird.

Thereafter, she didn’t continue speaking, and left the continuation of the conversation to me.

“Well then, Lord Yu Ji, will you dispel your curse from Bo Fu and not harm her again?” I cut to the chase, since it was more important than anything else after all.

“Of course I can’t.” Yu Ji shook her head, “If you’re someone from the future then you should know that one of Sun Ce’s possible causes of death is by me, Yu Ji.”

“Wu… A little…” Knowledge about Sun Ce’s death clearly isn’t callable on demand in my knowledge repository. This sort of information was the sort that would appear from time to time by certain triggers but when I actually needed to refer to it, I couldn’t recall it.

“Hai,” At my reply, Yu Ji sighed.

“Even as intelligent as Kong Ming is, I can’t believe she still made an error here.” Yu Ji muttered.

“Kong Ming? You mean Zhuge Liang?” This familiar name piqued my interest.

“Ah… Ahem… I clearly shouldn’t have said that.” At my question, she gave 2 fake coughed and raised her eyebrows to cover her earlier slip of the tongue. I wanted to press the question, but Yu Ji returned to the previous topic.

“In the first place, you shouldn’t be at the scene when Sun Ce passes away. But from how things stand, this small mistake is of no consequence to the big picture. The reason why I’ve asked to meet you is just so I can give you some words of warning. I hope that from now on, you will not…”

“Lord Yu Ji.” I chose to interrupt her as she clearly lacked a little too much humanity and sentimentality in her given that she is a deity or deity-like existence.

“Un… Speak.” She wan’t angry at this, and only paused and waited for me to continue.

I bowed, “Though you didn’t say much, I can largely guess what Lord Yu Ji knows. But before you give me your words of warning, I hope that you can let Bo Fu live.”

“I just said…”

“Because history decrees that Sun Ce Sun Bo Fu must die?”

“… Un, indeed.” Yu Ji paused for a moment before she nodded as she replied.

Based on what Yu Ji said, Sun Ce is supposed to die around this time in history so she has to die. This logic does make sense. If I were to look at it from the viewpoint of history, I would probably make the same decision as Yu Ji.

But, I would have to be someone who is uninvolved. At this juncture, I clearly don’t fit this criteria. What should I do now then? What can I do?

That’s right, I’m Liu Bei. And at the same time, Liu Bei is also me right?

And so I frowned as I came to a decision to begin my counterattack at this profound woman whom I’ve just met, “I understand what Lord Yu Ji means. But I am now Liu Bei and as a former war comrade, I cannot sit and watch Bo Fu die.”

“Do you not understand that having friendship or other sort of feelings towards Sun Ce is a mistake to begin with?” Yu Ji said in a quicker voice with an expression that seemed to be expressing helplessness at how I couldn’t be reasoned with, and calmly turned around at her seat, “Then you can leave first. We can discuss your matters at length after Sun Ce dies.”

“Lord Yu Ji!” I yelled out as I drew the sabre that hung on Bo Fu’s wall and pointed it at Yu Ji. At this moment, all I felt was that this sabre was a lot lighter than my own weapons.

“What is this you’re trying to do? You want to kill me?” Yu Ji’s voice was hollow and ethereal as ever but I detected a faint hint of contempt. Well, under such circumstances, her contempt is justified.

But, I won’t do such silly things.

“… Then what about this?” I slowly moved the sabre to my throat.

“Oi, what are you doing?” She didn’t turn to look at me but she seemed to know what I was doing. As expected of a deity class character.

“Since Lord Yu Ji is so adamant on following the footsteps of history. may I ask what will happen if Liu Bei dies at this time?”

She sank into silence. Clearly, she didn’t want to budge because of this.

“I have a lot of things to ask you but at this time, it looks like I’ll have to do a little experiment of my own.” I pressed her further.

Personally speaking, this wasn’t a bluff at all. I’ve been through a lot while I’mhere but I still hoped to return home one day. It is possible that I can just return to the future by ending my life here, and I’m willing to gamble if need be.

Just as I made my resolve, she continued, “… If Liu Bei dies once, then perhaps there might be a way. But Liu Bei can’t die now.”

She muttered in an audible tone but I didn’t understand what she really meant by those words even though I heard them clearly. She then extended her hand and placed it on Bo Fu’s chest.

“Oi! Are you still going to do it?” The first thought that came to mind was that she didn’t want to budge from her position.

“Relax, I’m just lifting the curse.” I never expected that she would,” You’ve won.”

At these words, I felt like my entire body relaxed. It wasn’t to the point where my eyes were dazed and my legs were soft, but close enough.

I still didn’t want to die of course, so it’s only a last resort of last resorts.

“I really don’t understand why you’re doing this.” Yu Ji continued to speak, to both me and herself, in a tone that seemed perplexed as to why I couldn’t give an answer that was satisfactory to her.

“I don’t understand either. You both have no enmity between you so why must you take the life of a great person?”

“Hai, never mind.”

She didn’t want to continue arguing with me, which made me feel that she had other tricks up her sleeve. Only when I looked at Bo Fu and saw that she no longer had a pained expression did I rest easy and stop suspecting her.

“But now that Sun Ce will not die, the path which history will take will be harder to predict.” Yu Ji got up for the first time and turned to me as she said so, “Are you ready to be responsible as the primary instigator for the changes in history?”

While she said this, her gaze turned to the people outside. If I’m not wrong, she’s currently looking at Lu Bu Lu Feng Xian.

I understand where she’s coming from but I haven’t considered that far ahead. You might say it’s selfishness or self-satisfaction but since I’ve seen it, I must save the one in peril.

Especially when it’s Bo Fu.

“Well then, Lord Yu Ji. May I ask what words of warning you wanted to give me?”

“I have none. You have no intent of abiding by them anyway so it should be fine after some time.” Yu Ji continued in her tone that seemed like she understood everything.

“Then I would like to ask, what exactly is this…” I brought out the feather fan from behind me as I said so.

“Don’t be too anxious about that feather fan of yours, it will have its uses eventually.” She didn’t look at me but she knew what I was talking about, “You don’t need to ask me about the rest as well. When the time comes, you will receive the answers. Your coming here is not my work after all.”

“Wu…” Just 2-3 sentences of her silenced a mountain of questions I was about to throw at her. She really seemed like she knew what I was thinking. Since she’s said as much, I’ll leave it be for now,

“Alright, I understand.”

Yu Ji nodded, and sighed, “I thought about it. There are some things I shouldn’t be saying but before I leave, I’m still going to give you some words of advice. Remember, this is advice, not a warning, so you may listen to it, or not.”

“Go ahead.”

“Starting from now, please think of Cao Cao as an enemy from the bottom of your heart. If not, you will meet with tragedy in future.”

She then dusted her sleeves and when I blinked, she disappeared.

In the room, all that was left was a healthy Bo Fu and a troubled me.
