Iwa Family Residence

That was the first time she heard Lila scream like that.

The first time she ever saw Lila lose control, the sight she saw made her feel sick. A very wounded Kiryu and Lila in her hanyou state.

Kasumi re-entered the room with a tray and found Lila still clutching onto Kiryu's hand.

"Eita-san left," Kasumi said, "He told me to tell you to rest assured. Kiryu's injuries will heal up in a few days."

"Kasumi, you were probably right about me."

!!

"I didn't treasure Kiryu properly, and now things are like this."

...

Kasumi leaves the room, and when she returned, Lila seemed reasonable.

"Kasumi. kasumi, Kiryu isn't waking up."

"He will soon, don't worry."

"He's lost weight," Lila murmured, "Has he not been eating?"

"He does a lot of work for Hisame-san supposedly, and he isn't in school much. So he has to study late at night," Kasumi explained.

Kasumi observed Lila's behavior, 'Is she still in love with him or not?' Kasumi thought. At first, when she heard the news regarding Lila and Karashima, she didn't think much of it. Why would she? Lila told her before she lost contact with her, that she was studying medicine in secret for Kiryu's sake.

But when she saw how the two interacted with each other, Kasumi felt betrayed. Didn't Lila say she would love Kiryu forever? Didn't she say to her that he was the one? If that was a lie, then what about their friendship? And yet even then, Kasumi recalled how Lila protected her earlier on. Even though she is acting stubborn and bitter like this, Lila still cares a lot about her.

It was right at that moment Kiryu opened her eyes, "Ah?!! You're awake."

"Meat," Kiryu murmured.

Lila hits him, "Idiot! Why is the first thing you think of food?

"Since you're here, make me something."

Lila deeply sighed, "Wait a moment, I'll make something quickly," she turned to her, "Can I use your kitchen?"

Kasumi nodded, "Of course."

Lila muttered thanks and with those words said, Kasumi watched as she walked away. What is with that awkward atmosphere between them? Aren't they supposed to be best friends? A frustrated sigh passed her lips; she wants to make up with Lila.

"So, she came to me?"

"Well, it's more like she reached for Karashima, but he left," Kasumi didn't see the need to hide it from Kiryu. He would eventually find out, eventually.

Kiryu nodded; he didn't look hurt nor upset, "Yeah, I figured she would do that."

Why is he so calm about all of this? Does he really want to snatch back Lila?

...
When Lila returned with the meal, Kasumi decided to leave.

"Ah, wait I'll feed you don't.."

"Why are you trembling?"

"I—I'm not..."

Yep, time to go. She quickly headed towards the door.

------

Kiryu is grateful when Kasumi leaves; he turned to the girl who stood there shaking. He reached over and brushed his hands across the girl's bangs, "There's blood; you got hurt."

"I--I... It's only minor...your arm.."

"Well, it's nothing," Kiryu lied. It hurt a lot, and just reaching out to touch her is very painful. But, he pulled Lila into his arms, "Lila, I'm okay. Don't worry; I won't die."

"Kiryu, why did you do that for me?"

This silly girl, why is she asking such a stupid question for? Then again, Lila's always underestimated the place she has in his heart. He always found that stupid, though. Why does she have to underestimate her importance? All he has is her, after all. He doesn't have anybody else.

"Don't do that again, please don't," Lila whispered, "Please don't. I can't; I can't show too much concern for you. I have to maintain a distance. But if you keep doing things like that for me. I won't be able to control myself."

His eyes widened at her words. Silly girl, she doesn't have to hold anything back. She can be honest with him. But she's doing so much because she loves Karashima. Even if it means sacrificing her feelings for him, she wants Karashima to be happy.

"I can't make that promise," he replied, "I'm sorry."

"Stupid, stupid, stupid."

"Lila."

"Let me go," she exclaimed, "Why don't you mind your own business? Why do you have to love me so much? Kiryu, please, this is so painful. Please... don't love me anymore."

It pained him seeing her this way. Pained him seeing her so frantic and desperate looking. This isn't why he broke up with her. The thing with Rosalia aside, the main reason was so Lila would stop being so confused. But it seems like his sacrifice was for nothing. In fact, his sacrifice may have just made things worse.

Kiryu didn't know what got into him, but before he knew it. He had bent down and was kissing her. He kissed her for quite sometime before, Lila forcibly shoved him away.

"Why did you do that...you..the two of us..."

"Lila..."

"I'm leaving," she trailed off, "I need to find Haruka.."

Kiryu clenched his fist. But all he could do was watch her leave.

Maybe he's getting in over his head. But when he saw her look so broken and so fragile, Kiryu wanted nothing more than to help her.

____

Lila quickly found him, hunched up in the corner smoking a cigarette - no a lot of them. She could spot several surrounding his feet. He smoked a lot, even though she hasn't been gone that long. This person will break without her, but won't the same go for her? She can no longer live without Haruka.

"Let's go?"

"Why did you come back? Go to him; he needs you."

"I need you more than him," Lila murmured. She took a step forward and tugged on his hand, "You don't want me?"

Haruka looked at her like she just said something unbelievable, "You really are an idiot."

Why is he scolding here? She came all the way out here and even left her coat behind. Lila regretted not turning back to grab it, walking out in October without a jacket is like asking for a death sentence. When she was running, Lila didn't notice how cold it was but now that she stood still. Lila wrapped her arms around her chilled body, 'Freezing,' she thought.

Her thoughts broke off when she's pulled into Haruka's arms, "Better?"

"Ah-huh, warmer," she muttered against his chest. Indeed, the cold she felt moments ago seemed to have vanished.

"Don't call us out here and bail," a familiar voice said. Lila looked over and spotted blonde hair. It was Yumeko and beside the girl was Mikami. A relieved sigh passed her lips, so even if she stayed with Kiryu. At least Haruka would not go to those people, thank goodness.

Mikami chuckled, "Yumeko-chan, it's useless. Look at them."

"Unbelievable."

Haruka smiled, "No can do, my dearest is cold. She said she couldn't live without my body."

Lila blushed at his words, and buried her face in his arms, "Quit being so shameless moron."

"Heh, you're so cute."

'He's such an idiot,' Lila thought to herself. But, she focused on his warmth; it really is cold. Without Haruka, she would be freezing, and he smells nice, "Hey, quit sniffling, let me kiss you."

"No," she refused. She was still slightly upset that he just ran off like that. Thankfully, he waited for her, but that doesn't make this situation any better.

"Don't be sulky; I'll give you something you want."

"I'm not falling for that," Lila murmured. Though she doesn't mind having sex with him, right now she doesn't want to do anything too affectionate with these complicated feelings, "When I saw you leave like that, I was agitated," even though the one she reached out for was him and not Kiryu.

"I'm sorry," Haruka kissed her, eyelids, "It was a habit."

"Get rid of it."

"Yeah, and I really got you something you want. So quit sulking," Haruka murmured.

What is he talking about? Lila lifted her head from his arms, and Haruka took something out of his pocket. It was a medium-sized box, Lila blinked, "A gift?"

"Yeah."

A gift from Haruka, Lila looked at the box curiously before she opened it up. Inside was a beautiful Jade necklace. Ah? It looks kind of fam— Lila recalled that hairpin and her eyes widened, "Did you get me that too?"

Haruka smiled, "Took you long enough."

It really did, she would never have guessed that it came from him. Lila stared at the pendant, and blinked, "Did you get me this so I could remove Kiryu's stone from my neck?" she watched as Haruka looked away and she laughed, "Your jealousy is something."

"Don't you know the significance of wearing something that important on you? Of course, I'd get anxious about it," Haruka murmured. He ran his hand through his maroon-colored hair, and rustled it slightly, "Well, I do understand why you wear it. You don't have to wear a necklace, but I just wanted to give it to you."

"Yeah, I won't wear it."

Haruka's eyes twitched in annoyance, "Brat."

"But, I'll wear the hairpin," Lila murmured, "I'll wear this necklace for special occasions," now that she knows where that hairpin came from. She can wear it with ease now. Lila thought before it was something Kiryu gave her, that's why she didn't want to use it around Haruka. But that's different now.

"Did you want a hair accessory instead?"

Haruka looked very confused, and Lila rolled her eyes. Is this the famous playboy? He's so bad when it comes to girls. Lila wrapped her arms around his neck, and leaned over, to gently kiss his lips, "Thank you for the present. I like it a lot," she murmured softly.

He seemed surprised, and yet she noticed his gaze switch from confused to gentle, "I'm glad."
