Chapter 136

James had heard over his life that the best laid plans often would go awry. That did not seem to be the case for MercerEffect and his party. In fact, if anything, his plans seemed to be going exactly as he had planned.

First, Ydna's fire attack had been a fire blast, which sent a massive flame, similar to a star, flying off into the distance, only to detonate into a massive radius on impact. The spell caused the very room to shake, and some of the candy, including the cotton candy trees, actually melted away at the intense heat.

Additionally, her attack seemed to instantly aggro a rather large group of chocolatey mobs. Granted, James noticed the mobs seemed rather worse for wear following the fiery attack, and figured intense heat, aka fire, might be a weakness for monsters made out of chocolate. Regardless, the mobs, which seemed to be jumping, conical type chocolate mounds, with giant…lips, began hopping rapidly towards the hill, where the party stood.

The mobs were called Hurtsy Kisses, and unfortunately for the chocolate-based mobs, they weren't allowed an opportunity to get close. What surprised James the most about that fact though, was how the party kept them at bay. Obviously, it would have been extremely easy for Ydna to cast another fire blast, and likely melt them completely away. However, she held off on casting another offensive spell, though James could tell she was preparing something.

Instead, MercerEffect reached behind his back, and drew his bow. However, the moment the weapon moved from his back, James watched in awe as the weapon shifted and changed. It morphed away from the form of a compound bow, and became an antique, single action rifle. The gunslinger held the weapon up against his shoulder, his monocled eye looking down the sight, and fired. The sound of the gunshot rang out through the dungeon, and a split second later, one of the Hurtsy Kisses burst into chocolaty pieces.

James did note that as the mob burst apart, any area splashed by its chocolate chunks detonated into an additional explosion, much like James's sacrificial lambs. It was obvious BLANK had upgraded those mobs to cause a lot of damage in a small area, meaning they were especially dangerous to melee players and tanks.

One by one, MercerEffect easily dispatched the mobs, easily pulling back on the bolt, releasing a steaming shell with each shot. While he had to make that action to reload, James did note he didn't actually have to load the weapon with bullets, which had to be a nice perk.

After dispatching the mobs, he simply put the rifle back behind his back, where it once again transformed into a composite bow. It seemed, his class allowed him to manipulate or transform his weapons into more, efficient or deadly, perhaps, types. After all, the range with which he dispatched those mobs exceeded the range on a bow, even for an archer that had gone the sniper class.

With the candy threat they had aggroed defeated, before it could even become a threat, the party simply scanned the rest of the room. From their vantage atop the hill in the middle, they had a clear line of sight to every entrance into and out of the room. Furthermore, they could clearly see the other mobs milling about, which they hadn't drawn the aggro for just yet.

In the moment of silence, while they waited for their adversaries to come to them, James had been able to scan the mobs that moved about. The first he noticed, were large, boulder like mobs, completely covered in a completely colorful hard outer shell. Da Breakers, they were simply called, and it seemed the earth around them shook slightly as they walked. They were definitely not a mob you would want to try and take on as a melee class.

James also noted small groups of gummy bears waddling to and fro, usually in packs of three of more. What he noticed about them though, was that it seemed as if they had strange magical energy swirling within them, that seemed to take on the color of the bear with which it was in. These mobs, which James figured had a ranged or magical attack, were called Gloomi Umi Bears.

Sadly, James didn't get to see any of those mobs in action, as the gunslinger's group seemed less interested in killing mobs, and more interested in something a little more, valuable. After all, from what James had read in the notes players had been given regarding dungeon wars, they could gain more dungeon essence from killing players when they invaded, than mobs. And that seemed to be exactly what MercerEffect had come here to do.

After a few more minutes, during which the berserker of the party, a female devilkin named Pester, had managed to cook up some dicken for the party, the enemy players began to appear. James noticed the players at the same time as MercerEffect did, who seemed to be extremely used to using his philoso-raptor monocle to increase his field of view.

A group of three level 24 players were making their way through one of the pathways, looking about cautiously as they did. If James had to guess, they had lost two of their members in the dungeon before the dungeon wars started, and just hadn't had time to regroup. After all, if you didn't revive your party members in time, they were sent back to the start of the dungeon. And James guessed making your way by yourself through BLANKs dungeon was not an easy feat.

"Time to teach these candy lovers what true terror is." MercerEffect said as he once again drew his rifle. The berserker simply shook her head as she chewed on a dicken leg, seeming uncaring about the enemies. Granted, they were currently close to 200 yards away, meaning the melee adventurers had zero chance of reaching the players. Even the mage was limited, as the fire blast, which was a Pyromancer's farthest ranged spell, could only reach out to 100 yards. That didn't seem to affect the gunslinger though.

With practiced ease, and a devilish grin, the human gunslinger launched three rounds in rapid succession towards the party of adventurers. The players, covered in colorful candy armor, looked startled at the sound, their eyes turning towards the hill in the middle of the field, before the bullets found their mark. Candy shards blasted apart as the bullets tore into the players, and James watched as one of the players burst instantly into a glowing orb. That had been the party's mage. The other two, melee class players, looked at each other, and let out a yell in defiance, charging towards the hill as quickly as they could. However, another few shots brought them down with ease. James was curious just how long this plan was going to keep up. How much essence could MercerEffect and his party bring James?
