Chapter 153

"Well that's strange." As James and Rue reappeared on the Fields of Battle, he couldn't help but pull up his window. Sure, he was used to teleporting around throughout different instances and floors of his dungeon. However, he could always move about freely between such things as he did. Now though, as he flipped through his windows, he found he couldn't actually leave the fields of battle.

"What?" Rue was glancing down below them, at the scene unfolding on the battlefield. They had been teleported high in the sky above the spawn area for their players, meaning suddenly, every player in James's instance of DCO was now crowded below them. Needless to say, things were a bit chaotic.

"We're stuck in here, at least till this is done." James confirmed this fact once more, before he closed out most of his windows. It didn't really bother him, considering his main focus had been on the fields of battle for the third day of Dungeon Wars anyways. However, he had been curious if he would be able to hop back and forth, especially once players started dying on either side, and dungeon dives began anew. Sadly, it seemed he would just be stuck to managing those dives via his monitors, and not in person. Ah well.

"Would you really want to be anywhere else?" Rue's comment made James grin. No, no he would not. He had been anxious for day three of the wars to start, just so he could see what exactly he was up against. How he and his players performed today, and on day 5, would determine whether or not he would be able to continue on in his role as a dungeon core. He intended to win.

"Fair." He motioned down at the mass horde of players below them. Judging from what he knew prior to their teleportation, each player now had a total of 3 dungeon essence points to spin, considering Xander's note mentioned essence was split amongst all players equally. It seemed, at least for the war, that his players had managed to average about 15,000 essence per day, which was why they started day three with just a little over 30,000 essence. Now though, James was able to finally see just how much everything cost.

"What do you think they'll summon first?" That was really the most important bit of the dungeon wars. As every player, as well as James, Rue, and BLANK knew, the players were the ones with the true power for dungeon wars. It was up to them to actually choose how to spend their essence, and what exactly they would summon as a result.

Before day 3 had started, James had zero access to see what exactly the costs were for the variety of summonable options. He just knew there were buildings that required essence, and that players would need to use essence in order to summon the various boss mobs, core avatars, etc. More or less, he hadn't known much. Now though, he could finally look at the different costs.

"Obviously they're going to go for a good ol dicken first." Rue broke into laughter as she said it…but James was pretty sure she was correct. Granted, he had no idea of the mobs actually scaled with the level of the player that summoned them. If they did, that would be awesome. If not, he was sure the game had some way to modify and scale them. Regardless, an army of 10,000 dickens was pretty terrifying to imagine…especially if they did carry over their buffs.

Granted, a few aoe fire type spells from BLANKs players would decimate the dicken army, though, in a tasty way. For a second, James couldn't help picturing 10,000 fried dickens on the battlefield. Ha.

What worried James the most though, was that he and Rue's entrance onto the battlefield required, at minimum, every 1 in 6 of his players to putting their points towards the Avatar summon option. It also required 1/3rd of all of the gained essence, in order for both him and Rue to be summoned. Something he had really been hoping for. After all, he really, really wanted to personally be a part of the process of taking down BLANK.

"Let's just hope they decide to bring us into play as well." James shifted his focus across the summoning ground. Players had slowly begun to form up and gain a little bit of organization. Partially from people yelling out orders, and partially from others utilizing their private message features in order to organize themselves.

Incoming PM from Z

Speaking of private messages. James quickly popped open the message, curious as to what Z wanted. The leader of the Knight's had sent a message to James's personal profile. Which was fitting, considering no one, obviously per Xander's game rules, knew James was a dungeon core. If they did, well then Xander wouldn't have needed this little bet to get rid of James.

From Z

Topic: Dungeon Wars

Hey man, hope you're feeling better. Seems everything's a bit crazy here, definitely seems the teleportation into this spawn area was extremely random. Already gathering the Knights up with the Boss Slayers in order to do some hunting of the enemy players. Figured I'd give you a shoutout if you wanted to join us. If not, it's fine. Just be careful out there. The enemy team has some really strong players. If you come across someone named SoulDemon, run the other way man. Dude's a beast.

Any who, best of luck, and just lemme know if you want to join us. Otherwise, happy hunting, and let's win this thing.

Huzzah Dungeon Wars

Z

James couldn't help but grin at Z's message. Sure enough, the leader of the Knight's was already preparing to take on the enemy forces. At the same time, the man, true to his real-life role of medic, ha, was looking out for James, giving him a warning about SoulDemon. Seriously, Z and his players were just too awesome. Part of James really wished he were able to join them in their shenanigans. The mighty warlock Glyax would likely fit in quite well with them, even if he normally played solo. That being said, there wasn't anything saying James couldn't drop a possible hint towards Z and the others, to enable just that type of a scenario. Especially because what James had in mind wouldn't actually break any rules. After all, it was just a suggestion…
