Chapter 160

"They're really going to do this." Rue's voice was a mixture of humor, and anticipation. As the masses of players had continued to form up, with Trogdor, Axel42, and FlashFyre at the front, something else had been occurring as well.

That something else, was the fact that more essence was flowing into summoning Charles The Dicken. James of course had realized what they were planning. The, somewhat elegant speech from Trogdor, followed by him wasting his 15minute breath attack cooldown for emphasis, had cemented the realization.

Apparently, the dragonkin, because of his extremely rare infernal dicken mount, had been offered up, er chosen, as tribute, in order to lead what they were calling the dicken assault. The plan, masterminded by Stryker123 and the members of StrykeForce, was to have an assault group of over 100 players, meaning over 300 dickens, rush into the enemy area, accompanied by Charles the Dicken. With the World Boss's A Clucky Carol buffing the dickens even more, the mass of mobs was going to be extremely dangerous to BLANKs forces.

Their goal was to not only sow chaos amongst the enemy forces, but also harvest a bunch of essence in the safest, quickest way possible. While the mobs were expendable, it seemed the players had figured the mobs they summoned would transfer the essence they gained from killing adventures, back to the players. This theory had been apparently 'confirmed' by Axle42 and FlashFyre, who claimed they gained experience and essence whenever their summoned pets killed invaders or mobs when they invaded BLANKs dungeon.

By that logic, since apparently the summoned dickens players got by using essence seemed to be treated as pets for the players, they figured the same would hold true. And, even if it didn't, from what James heard of the chatter, they were pretty confident they would be able to harvest the essence, if it dropped as essence orbs, in the chaos of the dicken waves. Then, as the mass of dickens died down, the players were going to retreat back to their friendly lines, with even more essence than before, to summon more mobs, as well as work on summoning additional bosses, and avatars.

The last part was what James was most excited for. He was fine with his players summoning bosses. Obviously, they were powerful allies, and necessary for dungeon wars. However, James was really starting to get an itch. He wanted to join the battle. He wanted to be down there, fighting alongside his players, fighting alongside other adventurers, as he had in WU. Being a dungeon core was great and all…but James wanted to be a player too, at least for a little while. At least long enough to wipe BLANKs smug face in it.

"It seems the Great Dickening was rather…impactful, on a lot of them." James chuckled as the final bit of essence was dumped into the summoning totem. A massive, 20-foot egg, appeared from a glowing pentagram ahead of the spawn area, clearing out a good chunk of trees and forest in the process. At the same time, a massive timer appeared above it, slowly counting down.

"Prepare the Dicken Brigade." Trogdor's gruff, dragonkin voice boomed over the masses. His infernal dicken stood roughly 2 feet taller than regular dicken mounts. Additionally, the infernal dicken was devoid of feathers. Instead, its black skin appeared molten, with coursing red lines of demonic energy, and a constant set of flames burning over its entire body. In short, the infernal dicken looked badass. Which, made the 7ft tall red dragonkin covered in steampunk heavy armor, look badass as well. James would totally have decided to follow that guy into battle.

"I can't believe you had us join your brother's Dicken Brigade." James heard FlashFyre make the comment to Axel42, who simply grinned and shook his head.

"It's not like we had anything else planned for this." Axel42 glanced at Trogdor and offered the dragonkin a smile and a thumbs up. "Besides," Axel42 said, his voice softer, "if we take part of the Dicken Brigade, we have an excuse not to bring him along on our dives."

FlashFyre looked from Axel42 to Trogdor and shook her head. Her skin was pale, with blue lines of energy coursing over it in strange runes. In stark contrast, her eyes glowed with a bright blue light, and her hair, probably a callout to her name, was a bright, fiery red. "Fair." She looked towards her skeletal army. Having hit level 30, FlashFyre had again upgraded her necromancer skills, further down the path of bones it seemed. The dead giveaway, ha, was that all of her skeletal mobs now glowed lightly, and the bones that made of their forms were thicker. The higher she got on the path of bones, the stronger, more durable her mobs would become. Well, that and the fact she now had 2 greater skeletons, instead of just one.

James wasn't quite sure what the dynamic was going on, but it seemed as if Axel42 and FlashFyre were, if he had to guess, a couple. And, judging from that last statement, it seemed Axel42 was related to Trogdor. It wasn't uncommon for family members and friends to share each other's usernames, so that they could find each other in game. James just was curious why the duo seemed intent on avoiding Trogdor. As a Barbarian Warlord, he would provide the trio with an extremely powerful tank class. Furthermore, Warlords had the ability to buff their allies with battle cries. That ability would carry over to ally's mobs as well, meaning Trogdor would be able to increase the potency of Axel42 and FlashFyre's mobs.

Of course, as James glanced from the duo, to Rue, he knew exactly why the two wanted to stay away from Trogdor. If there was one thing James knew about gaming, it was that gaming with friends was great. Past that though, the more time James spent with Rue, the more he realized there was something even better. Gaming with someone you cared about, really made it great. No matter what the situation, no matter the ups, the downs, the challenge they faced, gaming alongside Rue was something James never wanted to lose.

In fact, the more he thought about it, that was really the biggest issue he had with everything happening to him right now. Not only was Xander a huge douche and BLANK a bunch of arrogant assholes… but they were interrupting his game time with Rue. They were encroaching on him just trying to play the damned game and enjoy his time with Rue. Even more so, they had now threatened to take it away. And, just like the duo down there, he didn't want anyone, or anything, getting in his way of that.

James looked at the time above Charles the Dicken's giant egg, watching the countdown tick away slowly. A new fire was burning within James, as he watched the timer expectantly. He needed this Dicken Charge to take place. He needed his players to kill some of BLANKs, so that he, and Rue, could join the fray. Being a dungeon core alongside his AI was great, but even more so, James wanted to step onto the battlefield beside her, and show BLANK just who they were messing with.
