"John...John are you waking up?" Carrie asked as she was watching her uncle start to move.
John opened his eyes. He got up slowly. He began to speak. "What...what happened?" he looked around confused.
"Well I could ask the same thing. But for me all that happened was that I found you and Mike knocked out..." Carrie had a worried face.
John looked around more and noticed he was laying on a bed. "Carrie where are we?"
"Well, when I found you both I freaked but that's when Joe came and helped me out." She stood.
"Oh...Wait! Whose Joe?" He looked at Carried concerned.
"Oh sorry forgot. He owns this house." She smiled.
"Oh well where is Mike?"John asked getting up.
"John be careful. You lost a lot of blood. And Mike is okay. The people here are actually nice." She said helping him up.
"That's good." He said trying not to hurt himself.
"What did I tell you Carrie?"
Carrie turned to see Joe's wife standing in the doorway. "Sorry Eva. But he did wake up this time"
"Carrie I know but he needed rest" she says looking at Johns shoulder.
He moved away from her. He didn't want her to touch him.
"Shes not going to bite. She is a nurse" Carrie said crossing her arms. She knew her uncle was stubborn.
Eva laugh a little. "I promise I wont hurt you" she smiled big.
John sighed. He moved back so she could look at his shoulder.
Eva started to remove the bandage from his shoulder. She cleaned out his wound.
John flinched.
Eva laughed. "So you can handle being in the army but not some little pinch?"
"Its..its not that. It just reminds me of all the pain I seen in the battle field. Also how did you-"
"Your name tags" she pointed to them around his neck. "I recognize them because my father also served in the army." she started to put ointment on his shoulder. "Also Carrie can you go get some bandages for your uncle?"
Carrie nodded and went to get them.
"So I can see you know a lot about nursing. Did you actually become on or..." John looked at her wondering.
"Before I got pregnant with my first daughter Ella I want to be one. I studied hard. I knew everything about nursing. But everything changed when I had her. All I wanted to do was be there for her every day." she said putting pressure on his shoulder.
Carrie walked in with the bandages. "Here you go" she handed them to Eva.
"Thank you" Eva smiled and started to put bandages around Johns shoulders.
"Hey Eva dinner is done-Oh cool you're up!" Joe said walking in.
"Thank you sweety" she stood and kissed Joe.
"Oh John this is Joe" Carrie smiled.
"Hello there!" Joe said shaking Johns hand.
"Hi" John said raising a brow. "Also if you two don't mind I would like to talk to Carrie alone. Please"
Both Joe and Eva nodded and walked out the door.
John gets up and goes to lock the door.
"John what are you doing?" Carrie asks confused.
"Look I do not trust them" He said going to a window and looking out.
"Their good people. They wouldn't hurt a fly." She said crossing her arms.
"I don't care. I want to be careful" He said sitting on the bed putting his shoes on.
She rolled her eyes. When she did there was a voice at the door.
"Hey its me Mike. Can I come in?"
"Let him in" John said looking out the window again.
She went to open the door. Mike walked in.
"Man its cool in here. Out there its hot" Mike said sighing.
"Hey Mike. Do you think Joe and Eva are bad people?" Carrie asked wanting to make sure they were on the same page.
"Of course not! Those people have big hearts. I've never met someone like them" He said sitting on the ground.
"Carrie asked because I don't think so. And I don't care who you ask. I will not change my mind" John said opening the window. "Damn too high." He closes it.
"Oh okay. Also dinner is done if no one told you." Mike said excited.
John started for the door when Carrie asked..
"Where you going?"
"To eat?" He looked at her confused.
"Oh so they can be bad people but you'll still eat their food. Okay" she started for door but stopped. "Hope they don't poison it" she laughed as she walked out of the room. Mike followed.
John rolled his eyes. He walked after her and entered the kitchen. It was small but nice. It was old timely. He sat next to Carrie.
"So John, what do you do for a living?" Joe said as he grabbed a biscuit.
"Well I use to be in the army before Carrie was born. But you probably already know that because Carrie talks to much." John looks at her. "But now I just stay at home and sell furniture" He was a little upset Joe wanted to know about him. He didn't care for these people and he sure didn't want them to know anything about him.
"John you don't have to be rude" Carrie said embarrassed by her uncle. 'Why did he have to be so mean to people' She thought as she stared at her plate.
"No no." Joe shook his head. "I understand. He just wants to be careful. That's all." He smiled.
"See Carrie" John turns to her. "Its fine" he looked at her angrily.
She rolled her eyes. He was being childish so there was no point for her to say anything else.
Suddenly Eva and two girls appeared. The tall one looked 16 while the other looked like maybe 12 or 13.
"Say hello" Eva whispered to the girls.
Both girls turned to look at everyone and smiled. "Hello!"
"Names Ella" she smiled big.
"Bailey!" the other girl said as she also smiled.
Both girls and Eva joined the others at the table.
Carrie smiled as she watched both girls act nervous. She remembered when she too was young and didn't like new people...
Flashback~
Little Carrie hid behind a short man.
The man turns to Carrie. "Hey don't be shy. Shawn doesn't bite" A young John says as he pushes her forward.
Carrie looked up at the tall man. "Hi...." she quickly looked away.
Shawn laughed. "Its okay little one. Don't be scared"
"I'm not scared!" she protested.
Both men laughed.
"Okay little one. I want you to meet my son Ellis." He moves out of the way and a somewhat tall boy walks up to Carrie.
"Hello..." he looked away blushing.
"Hi.." she stared at him.
He smiled big. "You will be my new best friend!" He hugged her tightly.
Carrie hugged back to be nice but she didn't know this kid.
He noticed. "How about just friends right now. Huh?" he smiled big.
She smiled back. Maybe he wasn't bad at all.
End Of Flashback~
Remembering that she turned to John. "Hey John?" He looked at her. "Do you think Shawn and his family will be alright?"
"I think Shawn so. Shawn's a big fella. He can handle himself. Even more when it comes to his family" John said while nodding his head.
"Well..." she looked at her plate. "Maybe we could go see the town again and see if anyone survived."
"That sounds like a plan" He agreed but only to get out of this place.
"Hey John." Joe said putting his plate up. "Do you want to come with me and go into town to find your friends? I don't mind"
John was going to say no but he knew that he needed to get out and this was the only way. "Yeah sure" he nodded.
"And while you boys are out us girls can talk about girl things" Eva laughed at the thought of it.
Carrie started to choke on her food. "Um wait. I think Ill go with them" she swallowed her food and put her plate up.
After dinner Joe, John and Carrie went outside to get ready to go into the town.
"I want to go..." Mike pleaded.
"No Mike. You stay here. Just to make sure nothing bad happens." John said getting the truck.
Mike sighed. "Whatever" he went back inside.
Eva kissed Joe's cheek and they were off to the town. Or so they thought. When Joe put the keys in the key hole the truck didn't turn on.
"That's strange.." Joe said getting out of the truck and popping the hood. Everything was normal. "Hmm" he stared at his engine.
"Whats going on?" John said as he examined the engine as well.
"I don't know. The damn stopped working." he shut the hood. "Guess we taking the old car." he went to the barn. "In here" he waved for Carrie and John to follow.
When Mike entered the house Eva, who was doing dishes smiled big. "You stayed!" she smiled big.
"Yeah..." Mike sighed.
"Great! Now what do you want to talk about? Boys? Cars? Video games?" She was naming off things but Mike wasn't listening. He stared outside.
Suddenly a loud noise was heard from outside. Both Eva and Mike look at each other. They than run outside to see what had happen. But when they do they see Carrie running out of the barn. When she approached them Mike looked at her worried.
"What happened?"
"Big....huge....lady.." She managed to say without fainting.
John and Joe run out of the barn. Joe runs inside while John shoots at something while running up to Mike and them.
Eva and Mike soon see a huge fat zombie running after John.
"That's one big lady" Mike said scared.
Suddenly Joe came outside with a shotgun. He was already firing before even stepping outside.
"Kill it!" Mike yelled wanting this thing dead.
"What do you think he is doing?" John said mad.
"Leave him alone!" Carrie looked at John mad.
They started to argue.
"Hold on!" Joe yelled at him so he could focus.
As the zombie got closer Mike and the others started to freak. This thing was strong.
"Kill it!" Mike yelled again.
"Die you son of a bitch!" Joe said as he got close enough to the zombie and shot it right in the head. It fell to the ground.
"Damn..." Carrie said watching the large thing fall.
"Carrie language!" John said madly.
"Whatever" She says while looking at inside the home. 'Hope the girls are okay' she thought.
"Why was that thing inside there?" Mike asked Joe as he was walking up.
Joe put the shotgun by his side as he spoke. "Ask Eva. She knows who that was." he was clearly looking at her angrily.
Everyone turned to her. Eva looked at the ground. Tears running down her cheeks.
"My mama..." she ran inside.
Everyone looked worried, but Joe.
John and Mike followed her. Mike stopped and looked at Carrie and Joe.
"You coming?"
"I am but," Joe grabbed John and Carrie and put them side by side. "You two need to work on your issues"
"What issues do we have? I know I don't have any!" Carrie said crossing her arms.
John rolled his eyes. "Name one!"
"Oh yes you do! And I will!" Joe went to them. "You guys have been arguing since you got here." He turns to John. "You sir need to let her in once and while and stop treating her like some kid." he turns to Carrie. "And you need to understand he is only looking out for you because he loves you."
"Well...um....well..." John said while trying to think of something.
"Well nothing! You two need to work this out." Joe sighed. "I know it isn't any of my business but...well you see...." He looked inside to see his wife crying at the table. He looked at the ground. "That's what got her mama bit. They kept arguing and arguing for years up until her mama died." He looked at them two. "I don't want the same thing happening to you two. And if you want to go into town than you two better work it out."
"Well fine, but you're not going to keep bossing me around like some kid. I'm grown. Hell I'm older than you" John said madly. He didn't like what Joe was doing. He was the only one that bossed people around.
"I promise to not argue again" Carrie said as she looked at John but quickly away. "If you take us to town I wont fight with my uncle."
John shook his head in agreement.
"Alright. Lets go." Joe said nodding. He knew this was the right thing to do.
John, Joe and Carrie all started for the barn again to get in the car when gun shots went off in the front of the house.
"GET DOWN!" John yelled as he quickly went to the ground.
John and Carrie went to the ground.
"Why the hell are gun shots going off?" John asked looking around to see anybody who could be shooting.
"I don't know but we need to get out of here." Joe said slowly getting up and sitting next to the barn door.
"Joe I can go get Eva and the rest of them while you and John get the car started." Carrie said as she slowly got up.
Joe nodded in agreement and went to the car.
Carrie ran quickly to the house to grab the others.
John got into the car as Joe did.
"Hopefully they will be okay" Joe said starting the car.
"They will. Carrie can handle herself" John said as they hurried and pulled out of the barn.
They got next to the house.
"Where are they?" John said looking around.
"I don't know but I suddenly got a bad feeling in my gut" Joe said as he looked inside the house.
Suddenly the back door opened in the car. Both John and Joe looked behind them. Mike sat in the back seat. His face looked as if the blood in it was drained. Before they could ask him anything two cars came up behind the car they were in.
"Oh no...." John said as he looked behind the car. "Shit shit!"
The people in the cars start to get out. As they do a tall man with red orange hair and a long somewhat grayish beard gets out.
"What the hell does this guy want?" John said pissed.
The tall man sat on one of the cars and waved at John and Joe. "Come on out before things get ugly" He put a toothpick in his mouth.
Joe and John got out. Mike stayed in just so he could be safe.
As Joe and John approached the man he shook his head. "The boy too"
Mike slowly got out. "John..." he whispered to him.
"Its okay Mike" John said as he kept his eyes on the tall man.
"Hmm" The man looked like he was studying them. He smiled. "You people must be scared right?" He got off the car.
"We..." Joe started to say when the man interrupt him.
"Don't start with your shit. I'm only here as a friend" He spout out his toothpick. "Now you see you people have something that I want and now how I see it is if you do agree to give it to me ill let you free but.." He looked at them smiling. "If you don't things will truly get ugly."
"Listen you have the wrong people. We are just a couple of people that are living the good farm life" Joe pleaded.
The man shook his head. "Wrong answer." He suddenly shot Joe in the leg. Joe fell. "Now if you don't want anymore blood happening than I will ask again" he looked at them pointing the gun. "Are you going to give me the thing I want?" They said nothing. He sighed. "Fine!" he shot the gun but nothing happened. He began to laugh. "Oh I'm just kidding. I already shot him" He laughed pointing at Joe. "But if you really don't want to say anything than I will just have to bribe you" He nodded at one of the other men and they went to a car.
"John what hell is going to happen to us?" Mike whispered. You can tell he was scared.
"I don't know but promise me you'll run when I say to" John whispered back.
Mike nodded. He looked down at Joe. Even though he got shot he still was holding back his tears and everything. Mike looked back at the man and his eye widened. "Oh god.."
The man set down three women on the ground. All three had a bag over their heads.
Mike started to feel something inside. It wasn't fear it was anger. He clutched his fists. "You bastered!" he yelled at them.
The man frowned. He shot by Mikes feet. "Be careful little boy" he put his gun back up. "Okay you" he pointed to John. "Whats your name?"
John didn't say anything. He just kept his eyes on the man.
"Okay mister tough guy. Ill tell you mine. Its Simon." He smiled. He pointed the gun at John. "Now what was your name again?"
John bit his lip. "Names John.."
"Awe see was is that hard?" He put his gun away. "Anyways do you know who these women are?" He removed all the bags over their heads.
John swallowed hard. "Yes...the one with black hair is my niece Carrie..." He looked at her. She was crying.
"Oh Carrie such a lovely name!" Simon went to her. "Oh and such a pretty face" he touched her cheek. "So young...so beautiful"
Carrie looked at John. She than looked at the man. "You know I love a big strong man" she said biting her lip.
"Oh do you really?" He said smiling and touching her hair.
"NO!" she spat right in his face.
He wiped his face off.
"Oh did you not like that?" She laughed.
He grabbed her face and got close to hers. "Now that wasn't very nice." He let go and stood up. "You see men? This woman is mine!" he suddenly slapped her. "And I make sure my woman stay inline."
Tears ran down Carries face but she didn't look away from Simon. All she wanted to do was rip him apart.
Simon turned to John. "I wanna make a deal you see."
John watched Carrie. He looked at Simon. "What kind of deal?"
"Well...." He looked at his men. "You see I'm running low on men. So if I give you these women you have to come work for me. You and that one" he pointed to Joe.
"If we do..." John looked at Carrie. "The girls and the boy here go away being unharmed?"
"You have my word" Simon said smiling.
"John no!" Carrie yelled.
"Hey hey" Simon went to her. "There there pretty lady. Ill see you soon. I will miss your beautiful face" he stood. "You have three minutes to say goodbye. Make them quick." he let Carrie and the other women go see the others.
Carrie ran to John hugging him tightly. "Please don't go..." she pleaded.
"I don't have a choice. Its better if I stay here and do whatever they want while you be safe anyways." John said while wiping her face.
"I know but I cant lose you John. You are the only family I have left." She cried more.
"Listen you have Mike, Shawn and Ellis who will look after you" He smiled at her. He pulled something out of his pocket. "Here. I was going to wait until your birthday but since plans have changed I guess its now or never." He handed her a small box.
She opened it. "Oh my god...John is this-"
"Your mothers necklace yes." He smiled at her.
"Okay three minutes are up. Lets go!" Simon said leaning on the car.
"I'm going to miss you" Carried hugged him tight. "Never stop being an idiot." They both laughed.
"Me too" He said holding back his tears.
"Lets go people!" Simon said waving at them.
Some men grabbed Joe and John. John went in one car and Joe went in another.
"Sorry it had to end like this sweet heart but we will meet again." Simon said as he blown Carrie a kiss.
Carrie ignored him and wiped her face. She got into the car as the others did too. They drove off leaving Simon and his men watching them....

The people in the cars start to get out. As they do a tall man with red orange hair and a long somewhat grayish beard gets out.
"What the hell does this guy want?" John said pissed.

The man set down three women on the ground. All three had a bag over their heads.

"Well...." He looked at his men. "You see I'm running low on men. So if I give you these women you have to come work for me. You and that one" he pointed to Joe.
"If we do..." John looked at Carrie. "The girls and the boy here go away being unharmed?"

"Hey hey" Simon went to her. "There there pretty lady. Ill see you soon. I will miss your beautiful face" he stood. "You have three minutes to say goodbye. Make them quick." he let Carrie and the other women go see the others.

"I don't have a choice. Its better if I stay here and do whatever they want while you be safe anyways." John said while wiping her face.
