Quinn smiled as one person advanced. A young male dark elf, well muscled and dual wielding wickedly bent swords. "Those scimitars? Nice!"

Quinn waited until the fighter was thirty feet away, then he gripped the 2x4 and took a big swing.

*Blink*

Quinn appeared behind the fighter in mid swing, the wood slammed into the back of his head with a sickening thump.

Cedi Jol has been stunned.

Quinn turned toward the spectators and gave them a pleasant smile. "Guess we'll see if my theory is correct."

*Return*

Quinn returned back to his original location.

*Stealth*

*Ba'Avriel*

Quinn flapped his wings hard to quickly gain altitude, then he hefted the 2x4 in one hand, Ba'Avriel did not drop. "Yep... you're boned." He came in at a steep dive and swung again at the dark elf who hadn't recovered yet. The wood hit him across the back of the neck , sending him skidding across the ground like a skipping stone. Stealth broke, but Ba'Avriel did not.

Cedi Jol has been Crippled and can no longer fight.

Quinn flapped his wings as he hovered few feet off the ground, the powerful flaps sending sand everywhere. He took note of the shocked faces. "Didn't know I could fly?" Quinn took another big swing with the 2x4.

*Blink*

Quinn appeared in the middle of the holding area, sending the nearby fighters flying as he wading into them like he was chopping wood.

Eten Jol has been stunned.

Bei Jol has been stunned.

Ry Jol has been stunned.

*Return*

Quinn returned to the place he had been hovering, he banked hard and came back low to the ground. He grabbed Ry and Eten by their arms and drug them into the air, by this time a ranged fighter had started shooting arrows at him.

Quinn used their bodies to block the arrows and then dived hard at ground. He let go of the two dark elfs just before he hit the ground.

*Blink*

Quinn appeared behind the bowman and slammed the 2x4 into his back, just as the two dark elves crashed into the ground.

Ry Jol has been crippled and can no longer fight.

Eten Jol has received a mortal wound and will be rezzed in the temple.

Durym Tu has been stunned.

Quinn's laughter echoed in the proving ground. He banked into the holding area and started swinging the 2x4 in wide swaths, the dark elfs who could still move fled in all directions, only to be chased down and beaten with a piece of wood. After a few minutes everyone was either down, pretending to be down or being rezzed at the temple.

Quinn walked away from the holding area, blood dripping from the wood, more than a few teeth were embedded into it. He dropped the wood in the middle of the grounds, the weight of it making a loud thunk in the courtyard that had sudden gone deathly quiet.

"Guess the maze is next then?" Quinn walked toward the entrance to the underground passage. He was halfway there when the applause started, clapping, foot stomping and screaming. The noise drowning out everything else. He didn't turn around, nor acknowledge their approval. A bloody melee broke out in the middle of the courtyard for ownership of the piece of wood that Quinn had picked out of a scrap pile. They loved it, it was a brutal, heartless and bloody.

Mora Jol sat comfortably on some seat cushions that had been placed for her. The scarred one, the silent killer, the woman no man would love. She had found someone at last, but there had always been doubts. He held back at times, making her feel unsettled. She ached for his touch, her heart beating faster when she thought of him. He had declared Mata Ru, she would never have believed that someone would do that on her behalf.

Mora raised her head at the dim sound of applause. They must be fighting already. The attendants walked in and offered her refreshments. They looked at one another, well aware that Mora Jol could not speak. Mora Jol was everyone's favorite older sister in the Jol clan.

The younger one slowed her steps while she was leaving. "The first round has been completed already, even the old ones are pleased with the candidate."

Quinn walked down the stone steps that marked the entrance to the maze. He stood in the archway, barely able to see the moss covered stones in the darkness. There were two torches by the entrance. He picked them both off the wall and snuffed them out on the ground. The hallways were narrow, a tall person like Quinn could touch both walls at the same time.

*Hunt*

*Stealth*

In the darkness he started counting the signatures, there were nine in all. One waited in the first hall. Quinn entered the maze silently.

System Message: Mata Ru Maze Bonus Challenge option one, finish the maze without being detected.

System Message: Mata Ru Maze Bonus Challenge option two, eliminate everyone.

Quinn smiled at the system message, 'so many choices.' He stopped when he was within thirty feet. Dark Elf senses were incredible sharp, Quinn didn't want to alert him. The commando was crouched low against one wall, his dagger was held low for a quick thrust. To anyone else he would have been nearly undetectable, but to Quinn he stood out like a bonfire.

*Blink*

Quinn appeared behind the rogue and immediately jumped on his back, one arm wrapped around his neck as his legs pinned the man's arms to his sides. They struggled for a moment, the rogue was incredibly strong.

*Return*

Quinn returned to his original location. He used his right hand to push the rogue's head further into the choke.

*Impale*

The bone spike on his right hand punched through the back of the commando's skull. He struggled reflexively for a moment and then collapsed.

Roni Vale has been slain and will be rezzed in the temple.

*Stealth*

The rogues who were waiting in ambush unintentionally had given Quinn a map of the dungeon. From the locations of their heat signatures, he could roughly guess how big the area was and the approximate location of the exit.

Quinn came to a intersection, the placements of the ambush on the left told him that it was a dead end, the right side was the safe way to go. So of course he took the left hallway, moving slowly until he was close. He was about to attack when he detected a slight movement from his prey. "It got bigger?"

He stopped and slowly reversed his steps, putting another twenty feet between them. Crouching on the ground he stared at the glowing red shape. 'The hells is going on here.' Quinn was about to retreat when it expanded again. Then he nearly started laughing in the darkness. 'It's two people standing together.'

*Blink*

Quinn appeared behind the rogue that was standing the furthest back.

He gripped the back of her head and slammed her face forward into the back of her partner's head.

Kyli Jol has been stunned.

Merna Jol has been stunned.

*Return*

Quinn returned to his original spot, still holding the rogue. He picked her up and quickly retreated back toward the exit. When he had turned the corner he hefted the rogue over his shoulder and slammed her into the ground. He heard her weapon clatter on the ground.

Kyli Jol has resisted being stunned.

Kyli Jol has been disarmed.

Quinn felt a hand grip his ankle and pull, instead of resisting he moved with the motion and rolled into full guard with the rogue on top of him. He controlled her wrists for a moment, then loosened his grip on one, immediately she postured up and tried to punch. Quinn kept the other wrist and spun like he was making an armbar attempt, when she defended he reversed his direction and caught her in a triangle choke.

She had nearly slithered out when Quinn pressed his hand against her face.

*Impale*

A bone spike punctured upward through her eye and into her skull. She didn't make a sound as she slumped against him. Quinn rolled her off and stood up.

Kyli Jol has been slain and will be rezzed in the temple.

*Stealth*

Quinn bent and picked up the dagger Kyli had dropped and stored it in his inventory. He noticed the other rogue had stopped around the corner, as if waiting. He could see her clearly through the walls. Since there was no time constraint, Quinn leaned against the wall and waited. Two minutes went by, then three. Finally she moved, apparently decided that the candidate had turned back.

Quinn pushed his hands and feet against either side of the wall and shimmied up until he was near the ceiling. When the rogue passed beneath him, he dropped.

*Impale* Both spike entered through the shoulder, striking deep in her chest cavity. Quinn rolled quickly away, knowing it wasn't a fatal blow. The rogue screamed in pain, then jumped nimbly to her feet.

"You missed!" The rogue jumped forward with a low thrust of her dagger, Quinn responded by leaping away and pulling his hands back.

*Blink*

Quinn arrived directly behind her and extended both spikes into the back of her skull while lifting at the same time, she kicked her feet helplessly in the air and then lay still.

Merna Jol has been slain and will be rezzed in the temple.

*Return*

He pulled his spikes out of the rogue and eased her onto the floor. "Good reflexes Merna."

Over the next half an hour Quinn hunted down five more rogues and eliminated them. The disadvantage of being plainly visible to an unseen foe with movement abilities, proved too much for a race that prided themselves on stealth killing.

The last one stood by the exit, she was leaning against the wall casually as if waiting for him. "I can sense your presence, even if I can't see you Candidate." Her head was shaved close on the sides, leaving a long white Mohawk. Quinn immediately liked her.

Quinn dropped stealth, and smiled pleasantly. "I'm Q. Are we going to talk?"

"I'm Vess, I've been wa.." She shifted her weight and pushed downward on a pressure plate, instantly Quinn felt the sting of several tiny darts striking his neck and shoulders.

"Shit... I deserved that ." He fell backward and lay still." Watching as the rogue approached him. Even if she was a little freaky, she was also quite beautiful.

"I was tempted to let you go, Mora Jol is a close friend of mine. I trust you will marry her eventually, even if you failed miserably here. You are probably wondering why you can't move? That's because I used a rare spider toxin to co..."

*Blink*

Quinn slammed his palms into the base of Vess skull.

*Impale*

Two bone spikes entered her skull at the same time, killing her instantly.

Vess Tu has been slain and will be rezzed in the temple.

*Return*

Quinn returned to the spot where he had been laying down.

"Spider toxin huh? You really should do your homework. I didn't fall because it affected me, I fell because I suspected another trap."

Quinn walked through the exit. Immediately there was a stairs that led upward.

System Message: Mata Ru Maze Bonus Challenge option two has been cleared.

System Message: The Nightcaller Ringlet has been deposited into your inventory.

Quinn trotted up on flight of stairs and a moment later, stepped into a great hall. The room was lined with torches, the light had pushed every bit of shadow from the room. There were statues of every kind of dark creature you could imagine trolls, gargoyles, hellhounds and of course spiders.

There was a small table in the hall, a woman in a dark robe sat with her back to him. There was a bottle of wine and glass in front of her.

*********

Mojo paced as she waited, even though she felt scared, her heart had decided to trust the man inside it.

The attendants entered again, they exchanged the refreshments that hadn't been touched. Mojo knew that they were there to put her at ease.

The one who had spoken before favored her with a smile. "The second stage has ended, he has cleared the maze of our people, it is his win."

Mora Jol breathed a sigh of relief, it had only been three days but she wanted desperately to see him.
