Would you please marry him?

This question is… strange.

What more if you take the context into account, so for a moment, Tanya was dazed, but after a few seconds, she came back to her mind and replied:

-Nope.

She was starting to be used to his eccentricities, and didn't know if it was a good or a bad thing.

-Oh, come on, there's no better moment for a marriage between two person who never heard each other's name and never saw each other's face than a race in the middle of a deadly dungeon! What more inside a mecha!

She decided to ignore him and let him talk alone.

She turned to the hangar and saw her other teammates being 'eaten' by the mecha. That was quite… a special sight.

Instead of teammate, a more accurate way to call them would be allies, but she felt like she could trust them after all this time.

Anyway, that was surely a strange idea to use a mecha to win races.

Once everyone gathered around him, Squatting Eagle told them his plan:

Everyone controlling a part of the mecha, and beating everyone up.

He said "like in power rangers" but Tanya didn't understand the reference.

They, after all, all grew up in centers. Squatting Eagle being the only exception, they of course couldn't understand everything he said.

They all got the same education, the same clothes of the same color, the same hair cut, etc. The only difference between them was the identification number they were given at birth…

While thinking about it, Tanya… wasn't her actual name, she was A-85367. A was representing her center and the number her id in the center. She was essentially the 85,367th child of the center's history. Her center opened the year of her birth, so she was part of the first batch. No one in the center told them why so much children were sent there.

Her name was given by one of the other kids there. He wasn't like them. Even though he had the same age than them, he came later. Tanya was always impressed by his extensive knowledge about the world outside.

Eventually, one day, the center's people did some tests to ascertain their riding capacities.

As one of the people judged unable to ride, he was transferred elsewhere. When she asked an adult about it, he said with a laugh that he was going to feed the beasts. She didn't understand well, but she supposed it was some kind of work.

He only stayed for one month, but her memories of him are still vivid.

Anyway, her mind back to the actual situation, Tanya was still dumbstruck.

Why does this situation not make any sense at all?

Using mechas to run in an animal's race, she was sure that there was no precedent to it. All the education she received was based on it, after all.

Is his background even higher than what she thought?

Then, what is he doing here? Weren't immortals supposed to be watching instead of participating?
