Chapter 13 – Flaming 3-Headed Wolf

Mark of a Bright Moon was not an idiot. They’d witnessed the scene of Chen Mo killing the Wolf Elite and that told them that he was powerful. How could a powerful person like him readily hand over a precious levelling spot just like that? There was a catch!

This hunter obviously knew about some hidden settings of the monsters in this map and had used them. He had treated them as fools!

Mark of a Bright Moon was about to storm up to the hunter to question him in a pique of anger but he suddenly stopped.

Another mutation was happening in the Wild Wolf Valley.

The empty floor of the Wild Wolf Valley suddenly burst into a sea of flames. The ground seemed to have melted and something was emerging from the ground!

Chen Mo picked up his spoils from the Wolf Elite and glanced down. Seeing the flames beneath his feet, he started.

What happened?

Boom!

Before Chen Mo could figure it out, the glare of flames suddenly dissipated and the figure of a huge monster appeared!

“Wha… What’s that? A 3-headed wolf?” At Mark of a Bright Moon’s side, the mage murmured as he stared at the monster.

“Flaming 3-Headed Wolf! A BOSS – a big BOSS! If we kill it, we’ll be rich!” The archer exclaimed after reading the huge monster’s name.

Mark of a Bright Moon went from shocked to overjoyed, then brooding.

No matter how they looked at it, this BOSS could not be tackled by the 3 of them. Whoever manages to kill this BOSS would not matter to them.

“Flaming 3-Headed Wolf!” Chen Mo, too, couldn’t help staring at the 3-headed BOSS.

For unknown reasons, this BOSS had suddenly spawned. Flames ran up and down its body. On each of its 3 heads were a pair of flaming eyes of different colours. Its enormous body exuded swelling power, seemingly possessing inexhaustible strength.

System announcement: Hidden conditions have been met. The hidden BOSS, Flaming 3-Headed Wolf, has appeared! Wild Wolf Valley is now under the rule of the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf. Regional map rules have changed!

Hidden BOSS? Regional map rules changed?

Chen Mo was stunned. Did he do something to trigger this?

No matter how he looked at it, it was impossible. He’d believe that the Wolf Elite spawned because of Mark of a Bright Moon’s continual pulling of special aggro but the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf definitely did not spawn because of him!

What Chen Mo didn’t know was that, other than the Wild Wolf Valley he was in, all the Wild Wolf Valleys of all the beginner villages had spawned Flaming 3-Headed Wolves at the same time!

He did not have time to ponder for the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf enveloped in a wreath of flames had spotted him and, lunged at Chen Mo.

Chen Mo barely managed to dodge and evade the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf. However, this was no ordinary monster. The head with burning blue eyes twisted around and a stream of blue flame poured from the mouth, rushing towards Chen Mo.

Chen Mo had no place to hide. He was hit by the blue flame and a damage number of over 3000 floated up from him. He was killed instantly!

Chen Mo was not the only one to get killed. All the newbies in the Wild Wolf Valleys across the server had met the same fate. No one could survive even one attack from the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf!

The system announcement encouraged masses of curious players to flock to Wild Wolf Valley. They were overcome with glee at the sight of the hidden BOSS and wanted to rely on numbers to take it down. However, they found to their dismay that none of their attacks could penetrate the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf’s defences. They were like lemmings jumping off a cliff edge.

The appearance of a hidden BOSS caused an uproar in the beginner villages. This uproar only died down after the players discovered they could not kill the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf, but this was not till hours later.

Chen Mo resurrected at the busiest time in the beginner village. The players around him were all talking about the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf. He felt the sudden appearance of the BOSS rather peculiar, so he logged off to see what he could find on the forums.

He found out that the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf hidden BOSS had not just appeared in the Wild Wolf Valley he was in but all of the Wild Wolf Valleys in the game.

He checked the spawn time. It was the same for all the beginner villages.

Seeing that, Chen Mo was sure that the BOSS had not spawned because of him. The spawn conditions for this BOSS should be numerous. It was just that there were too many Wild Wolf Valleys – with multiple players killing monster there any one of them could have inadvertently fulfilled the conditions to let the hidden BOSS spawn.

Several players had made all sorts of guesses and speculation about this hidden BOSS. One speculated that as long as one of the Flaming 3-Headed Wolves in the valley was killed, the others would disappear. In would appear that there was only one BOSS and it could only be killed once.

Quite a few people supported this view. Chen Mo, too, was in favour of this bit of speculation as it was in keeping with the circumstances in which the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf had appeared.

As a result, the value of the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf hidden BOSS rocketed. A number of guilds, in a bid to get famous, had announced that they would kill the hidden BOSS on the forums.

There were too many people with the same idea as Mark of a Bright Moon. As long as one can be famous in GENESIS, he can be recognised by all.

There were numerous small guilds on the China server but not one could claim to be of any rank in GENESIS. Right now, all of them were at the same starting point so they were all working like mad to be the first to make a breakthrough.

There is no other way than to kill a widely-known BOSS to get famous in a game!

Other than the guilds, the strong solo players were also having designs on the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf BOSS. The competition was fierce.

Chen Mo, on the other hand, was not interested. He only wanted to uncover the conditions that allowed the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf to spawn but it seemed that it would be not possible to tell at this juncture.

Back in the game, Chen Mo could not help but be distressed at the thought of the Flaming 3-Headed Wolf occupying his precious levelling up spot. He only had half of his EXP bar to go after he killed the Wolf Elite. Ah, if only that darned BOSS had spawned later!

Chen Mo decided to look for another spot to grind. But first – he had to sort through the items the Wolf Elite had dropped.

Although the Wolf Elite had seemingly dropped a lot of items, Chen Mo didn’t harbour much hope when it came to the drop rate in the game.

A large part of the drop was bronze coins, totalling about 130. In addition to the coins, there were 5 bottles of low-level HP potions which healed 100HP upon consumption and 20HP every second thereafter for 10 seconds.

The only piece of equipment was a pair of Wolf Leg-guards, which Level 5 players can equip. It added 8 to physical defense after equipping. This was blue, which was better than white equipment. It also added 3 to Stamina, which equated to 60HP for him. It could be regarded as a good piece of armour.

Chen Mo put the Wolf Leg-guards on and left Ayr Town. He found that the higher-level players had all gone to Wild Wolf Valley to join in the fun so he returned to town and accepted a bunch of monster-killing quests before leaving again.

This was a good chance to go kill monsters. Most had gone to gawk and there wasn’t too many left to Kill-Steal. Doing quests to level up didn’t take too long. Besides, it wasn’t so easy to find a nice levelling spot like in Wild Wolf Valley.

There were 2 more hours to go till midnight. Chen Mo busied himself with quests for an hour and by the time the players who’d gone to join in the fun slowly trickled back, he had reached Level 7. He had left a large number of players behind in levels and nobody was able to Kill-steal him while he was doing his monster-killing quests.

This was the advantage of being a higher level than others. Most people wanted to get ahead for this advantage.

Chen Mo did quest after quest till it was midnight. He was at Level 9.

There wasn’t a big difference between Level 9 and 10. Chen Mo headed to the Northern part of Ayr Town to begin the “Lovers’ Rendezvous” quest.
