“Mr. Shuten, Thank you!!”
With a bandage wrapped around his abdomen, Crane bowed his head before me vigorously.
“Oh please don’t say that while trembling, since your fear hurts my heart.” (Shuten)
At this, Haruna who was nursing him by his side laughed hard.
We were in an inn in Merrick, a single room.
After I parted with Yatano, we traveled to Merrick with Crane and Rudius. Hiragi was carrying Justa in her arms, as Haruna followed up from the rear…leading to this situation. After a forced march over the course of the next day and a half, Haruna was clearly fatigued.
This time, I have completely exposed myself to the group of heroes.
Hmm, including Grendel, I’ve met everyone. They’ve seen me clearly enough that they would remember my face. It’s not a bad thing, but I can’t say that it’s a good thing either.
…Well, I can’t think of anything I would have been able to do differently though. Although I wasn’t particularly avoiding them, but I did not intend to let them get to know me. My sweet dream of observing from a distance can no longer happen.
As far as the plot being tied up with Grimoire Lancer II, the story is now obviously unsteady and could potentially head towards some strange directions.
At this point I don’t know whether Veloce, Yatano, Desiree, or myself will get involved in the future.

Talking with Hiragi before meeting Imperator, I had thought she also considered human beings as enemies, but I guess not.

…Isn’t she talking differently than before? It’s not like I really care, but Hiragi seems a little down. Until the day before yesterday, her way of speaking was a lot less downtrodden.

Rudius and Justa are still unconscious. Well, in regards for Justa who has no love for demons, maybe I am happier she is not awake yet.
Even so, with this many different kinds of people gathered in one room there will probably be trouble soon enough.

While thinking about such things, a voice called to me from the bed. While raising only his upper body, Crane turned a serious gaze towards me.
“Thanks to Shuten and Desiree, I was able to find a direction for my own fighting style. Thank you so much for you help with that.” (Crane)

Desiree, oh Desiree. Even though we had to move slowly, he was still in town.
Despite being someone I want to end, I don’t really want to meet him around the area where the shrine is….I will have to watch for places he may be hanging out.
“Surely…I’m sure I will catch up with Shuten! I will show I can defeat the Demon King…I have to keep fighting!” (Crane)

Although I said that I’m honestly worried. If I do not thoroughly collect the pearl pieces, then I don’t know when someone like Braument will appear and cause more trouble.

As I diverted my eyes from Crane’s gaze and looked outside the window, I saw that the sun has already long set. Of course. It was my goal to get into the inn by the dark, so I had rushed everyone here. Even though Haruna did some healing magic on the way, once we had stopped she was finally able to help the others towards fully recovering. I think it’s a pretty big deal…No, maybe I’m just remembering how important her role was while I was gaming.[1]…and no, I am not just feeling jealous of her ability.
Looking around, three of the four beds were used by Justa, Rudius, and Crane, but Haruna was still sitting on the bedside next to Crane, and it seemed she was worried about him.
“…Huh, where is Hiragi?” (Shuten)
“If you are looking for her, then she just went outside.” (Haruna)
Even if I stayed, I would not be able to do anything, so I will at least let them lay down as soon as possible. If Hiragi has gone outside, it is not a bad idea to follow after her…surely she is not tired of being here already?
“Hm?…Okay, I’ll go out for a moment. You may as well go to bed. I won’t eat you.” (Shuten)

A gutsy girl…I can only say she has a lot of guts. Which reminds me, Haruna was the one who spoke to me when we first met.

I turned the knob and pushed the door open. Haruna lowered her head at me as I left, and I gave her a wave as I stepped into the corridor.

I searched in the quiet inn for awhile. The other inhabitants are surely asleep by now.
Almost all the shops are closed now, and I cannot think of where Hiragi is likely to go…probably not the shrine that is near the edge of town either. Where else would she be?
Walking through the dark corridors that is covered in wooden planks, I wandered across the inn thoughtfully. There is a staircase leading to an entry that is rather cozy and small. Leaving the stairs, I gave a greeting to the shopkeeper almost falling asleep at the counter, and then went outside.
The outside is pitch dark, but above me the stars were twinkling brightly in an appealing way.
A soft sound like feet on tile reached my ears.
“……Ah.” I stopped.
Looking up towards the night sky it seems I was right, There was a girl with nine tails looking up into the void with an entranced gaze. She was pretty cute, sitting daintily on the roof of the inn. I still feel like I have thoughts a little young for my current twenty-three-year-old body, since I had died at the age of nineteen in my last life. Yep.
But just what is she doing?
Jumping up to the rooftop, she twitched her fluffy ears towards me. Responding to my action, she muttered “What are you doing here?” without even turning her head.
“Well, how do I put it. It’s not like I had business with you, I just figured I would come and find where you went.” (Shuten)
“Hm~? How rare…well whatever. Take a seat.” (Hiragi)
“Okay.”
Holly patted the spot next to her.[2]
Sitting on the angle roof, I looked at the sky at the same angle as her. I thought that taking it easy like this is not bad.
“You’re leaking your aura again!” (Hiragi)
“Oops.” (Shuten) Suddenly I imagined the stickiness around my body being sucked in like by a vacuum. That’s me Shuten…making the same mistake more than once.
Even in deep darkness, you can clearly see the silhouette of the houses and buildings that make up the city of Merrick. It may be because the shadows lighten and become a more subtle gradient while illuminated by the stars in the night sky. Not that I really understand the principle behind it. For a moment, it seems we focused seriously on the scenery.
The silence was soon broken by Hiragi, who sighed as the words leaked out of her.
“……I am weak.” (Hiragi)
“Oh, is that what you were thinking about?” (Shuten)
Since I figured there would be something on her mind, I waited until she started talking, though her voice was awfully hard to hear.
…This probably came up after seeing Veloce and Yatano-chan’s battle.
“…You may not believe me Shuten, but I was actually quite strong before?” (Hiragi)
“You told me how you had been severely weakened. Isn’t that partly why you were sealed in a boulder?” (Shuten)
“Yeah…so why am I only feeling despondent now?” (Hiragi)

She held out her hand to the night sky, as if reaching for something,
The white bracelet on her right wrist shone in the starlight.
“I have been wondering this for awhile, but what is that?” (Shuten)
“…Oh, this? It is a simple, sentimental accessory with no large effect.” (Hiragi)
“Was it a gift?” (Shuten)
“…to me, it’s a charm from…_….I guess” (Hiragi)

Although it was incredibly quiet, and I had to really listen, I was finally able to hear who she had received it from. I wasn’t able to ask, and I couldn’t tell if she wanted me to ask more about it, when she had mentioned it was from her “precious person” when we were in Mermila.[3]
“You could say that it is something that protects me, or is it that it gives me courage? Although a little hazy, this charm, reminds me of the words from when it was given to me. I had never touched it, so I thought Shuten hadn’t noticed.” (Hiragi)
“Well, you do touch it on occasion though.” (Shuten)

Hiragi then said something with her face wrinkled in bitterness.
“I want to return to before.” (Hiragi)

If it is to Crane here, I guess I can scramble some encouraging words and vomit out a nice speech, but…that’s not really me….Even though this girl in front of me is my kindred, even with her eyes half hidden I do not think I can do the same.

But it is impossible for me to repeatedly spout out beautiful lies encouragement.

I cannot see any kindness in spouting makeshift lukewarm words, and I am unable to find the right words even though she, my kindred, is staring down without moving. Placing her head on her knees held against her chest, Hiragi hid her face. Even if my words now are painful, or even if I turn away from reality and encourage her, there isn’t an easy way out. I mean, I do not want to see such a sad Hiragi. I can only speak my true thoughts and try to cheer her up in my own way.

Somehow it returned to our usual mood.
Yeah, this is the Hiragi I know. It seems we have returned to how we were before. I cherish this back and forth. But, now I also have a sense of security. At first I thought this connection was a result of us becoming kindred, but recently it seems like that’s not all.
I had a sudden thought, and my eyes went to the silver bracelet on her right hand…I wonder if I should give her something next time. For her left hand.[5]

Shaking with laughter, the current Hiragi much more fun than her downcast self before. Even though being laughed at is annoying.
Rather than worrying about if we can regain power, I want to act first and regain that strength. Although leveling is an unpleasant grind towards death, it is much easier to “regain the power that was had originally” than to “train from zero.” Sometimes commons sense falls out of my head like that. It’s good to go back to the basics, yeah.

“If you do that, then I won’t be able to keep house anymore!” (Shuten)
