Chapter 8 - A Man's Scent

Translator: Kitty G.

Wu Anan sensed her friend's indifference. She eagerly replied, "Lin Xin, I didn't know what to do earlier. Please don't get angry."

Lin Xin looked at Wu Anan, who was obviously still quite young. As a child, it was only natural for the girl to be afraid. Lin Xin could not blame her. Knowing this truth, Lin Xin sighed in her heart and said,  "I am angry but I think it's because I'm hungry. I haven't had a good meal today."

After hearing her words, Wu Anan quickly offered her lunch box and happily said, "You can have this. I don't plan on eating tonight."

Although the meat in Wu Anan's lunch box could not compare to Lin Xin's serving size from earlier, it was still better than nothing. Wait, was she trying to lose weight? She scrutinized Wu Anan's well curved body and confirmed her guess. Between the two of them, Lin Xin really should eat more; If she was stuck with the body of an undeveloped bean sprout, what should she do in the future?

Lin Xin accepted Wu Anan's lunchbox and thanked her. She washed her hands and face before heading to the cafeteria with her meal.

When Wu Anan saw her friend finish the whole piece of meat, the fear and guilt within her heart dissipated. Good, she's not angry. We can still be good friends.

Lin Xin licked her lips, thinking how good it would be if she had another piece of meat.

"Do you want some more?" a clear, yet weak voice said.

Lin Xinyu held out his lunch box and stood beside Lin Xin, like a puppy wagging his tail. He had always stood behind her this whole time, but she never looked at him again after saving him. When he noticed that she craved more meat, he readily offered his own food.

Lin Xin rolled her eyes and looked away.

Lin Xinyu pushed the lunch box beneath her nose this time and insisted, "I have a big piece of meat. The cafeteria lady specially reserved it for me. It's very delicious."

The scent of meat wafted in the air, causing Lin Xin to swallow. Although she was pleased, she also scolded herself inside and finally placed this offered meat into her bowl. After a couple of mouthfuls, Lin Xin patted her rounded belly. She stretched her arms in satisfaction before staring at the sunlight that gradually dimmed through the windowsill. Such a scene gave an illusion of maturity and calmness.

Lin Xinyu saw her acting lazy like a cat, which contrasted with her strong image from earlier. He laughed at her quick changes in mood.

The boy's sweet smile fell into Lin Xin's vision. He was just like a teddy bear; people could not resist wanting to reach out and touch him.

"Come here." Lin Xin waved to him.

Lin Xinyu approached, thinking that she had something to say to him, he sat close to her, with his ears very close to her lips.

The earthy aroma from his body intermingled with a faint medicinal taste, creating a scent similar to an adult man. This strange aroma seemed to tease Lin Xin's senses, causing her heartbeat to accelerate. She pushed Lin Xinyu away and asked coldly, "Who told you to come this close?"

Lin Xinyu didn't know what he did wrong. He replied, "You asked me to come, didn't you have something to say to me?"

Lin Xin's thoughts were filled with chagrin and shame. The supporting male lead was still a child, not a grown adult. How should she explain herself? Wasn't she a child too? Was she thinking too much?

Lin Xin stared at Lin Xinyu. The longer she observed him, the more she believed he was a walking disaster. If she didn't help him earlier, Zhao Qiang never would've found trouble with her. Since Lin Xinyu saved her once in return, then they shouldn't owe each other anything anymore. Later on, she plans to stay away from him and Wu Anan. After all, she took over a character who was never mentioned within the novel in the first place. People who weren't mentioned by the book either didn't exist or did not have intersection with any of the protagonists.

Lin Xin didn't want an early death. She had to live well. Who knew the consequences of dying in a fictional world?
