Looking over at Selia I gave her a wan smile then looked around. "Is anyone else confused about what just happened?" I asked.

Candice sighed, "Just consider yourself lucky Jason. The overseer gave you a lesson that it felt you needed. From what mother and father told me, that is unusual." she told me.

"How so?" I asked curiously.

"While she was friendly with your mother, that doesn't extend to you." Candice replied.

I frowned. At least I now knew that the interactions between my mother and the overseer weren't faked, if the whole dream wasn't something the overseer put together to amuse herself.

"The overseer takes a very simple approach to people. No matter what relationship she had with your parents, or any other member of your family, you yourself have to earn her respect. This assistance is probably the limit of what she is willing to do as your mother's friend." Candice told me.

"An odd way to look at things." I said then shook my head. "Besides, I don't think this assistance had anything to do with mother. The lesson might, but not the assistance with the living water heart." I responded.

"It isn't that odd. Not really, the overseer has befriended many people in its years, and there have been many worthless children born to those friends. Wait. do you think she already likes you that much?" Candice asked me surprised.

I shook my head. "No, I just realized it goes back to the rules of this place. We aren't allowed external aid, but she won't punish us unless we are caught. She admitted to observing us while the theft happened, and it could have only been done by one of her mediators. If she hadn't been watching I am sure she wouldn't care. Plus, I have a feeling she is curious to know who was able to steal the living water heart while she was watching." I explained. "If the theft had happened after the shield came down, then she wouldn't care."

"Maybe." Candice said thoughtfully. "Just remember one thing from now on."

"What?" I asked.

"Never assume you understand the overseer." Candice told me. "It is something mother told me. It will change the way it does things just to confuse you."

I nodded. "Hopefully we won't have any more interactions with her. She can watch all she wants, nothing I can do to stop her." I said then stood up and headed for the kitchen. "Right now I need a meal."

"Jason?' Selia called uncertainly.

"Food first." I stated and continued to walk into the kitchen.

I returned a moment later with an omelet stuffed full of bacon, cheese, and mushrooms. Plus sides of toast, more bacon, and a large mug of coffee. I had no idea what time it actually was but it felt like morning to me.

"That couldn't have waited?" Zephirah asked me.

"No." Canidice said with a sigh. "Trying to talk to him while he is hungry will only make him grumpy and short tempered."

I smiled as I sat at the table. I was still concerned about what the overseer had said about Candice and I, but that couldn't change the fact that I felt reassured having her here with me. With everything I had been through, I had been surrounded by strangers. Strangers with their own agendas. I was sure Candice had her own reasons for being here, but I trusted her more than anyone else I know. She had been there with me through thick and thin. If she was here for something, I would help her as much as I could. As for the others? Besides Vanessa, whom I still wasn't sure how I felt about, besides wanting to sleep with her. I didn't mind helping them out if it benefited me.

"The rest of you should get something too." I told the girls, "We can talk once we have something in our bellies."

The girls seemed a bit reluctant while Vanessa immediately followed my suggestion with Selia a second behind her.

"Is that the spells?" I asked glancing over at Zephira.

Zephira shook her head. "No, you gave them a suggestion, not a command."

"So Selia has those spells on her?" I asked unsure how I felt about that.

"She does." Zephirah told me. "They enforce complete obedience, and prevents any form of deceit."

I frowned, "Towards who, me or the dungeon master? Can they be altered?" I asked.

"Do you want to make them stronger?" Selia asked sounding a bit frightened as she came back into the dining room.

"Would that be bad?" I asked then took a big bite of my meal while watching her. I still couldn't judge her emotions but I was still curious how she would respond.

Selia's head sank down. "I would prefer you didn't." Selia replied. "But it would still be better than being sent back to my clan." Selia replied.

Prevents any deceit, meaning she had to be completely honest. I nodded but didn't reply instead I looked over to Zephirah.

"Surprisingly the spells are set to you instead of the dungeon." Zephirah spoke up. "As such you can adjust them, but they seem really complicated. You should study them before you make any changes to them."

I frowned as I considered the implications associated with the complicated spell. I was eating slowly to enjoy my bacon, but still finished before the others came out of the kitchen. Then again only Vanessa, Firenne, and Candice could eat with me at the table. When the three of them did join me the other girls returned to the couches having eaten in the kitchen.

I was a bit surprised to see sausage and eggs on Firenne's plate but decided to wait on those questions.

"It's better than I thought it would be." Candice said after taking a bite of her cheesy scrambled eggs.

"Right!" I said with a smile.

"Bad food is one of the fastest ways to alienate a dungeon master." Vanessa spoke up.

Zephirah chuckled, "The company tried to use food as a way to control my first user. It … well let's just say it didn't end well for the company. He gave them the most trouble out of all my users." Zephirah told them.

I nodded, the companies control over my available food was already a concern for me. Unfortunately, I still didn't have a fix for that problem. Yet.

Now that I was sated I could return to the issue at hand.

I looked over at the Selia. "Do you know why she sent you back?" I asked.

Selia shook her head, which was a rather humorous sight.

"I don't either, but of the three options she gave me, this would have been the one I chose. You can tell me your situation later." I told her.

"That's it?" Candice asked.

I nodded. "I also want to decrease the strength of the spells on Selia, but I will have to study them for a bit." I told her.

"Why weaker?" Vanessa asked, she didn't seem to be malicious, just curious. Then again she was also supposed to have restrictive spells on her. Something I would have to ask Zephirah about.

"Absolute obedience doesn't sound bad, but it can be a lot of trouble for me if I don't watch my wording. Worse than that though the inability to hide anything from me would alienate her from everyone." I told them.

"Yeah, we wouldn't be able to talk to her about anything without her having to run off and tell Jason." Candice agreed one second then frowned. "Are you sure?" Candice asked. "Even if it is troublesome, you would be sure she couldn't harm you."

I nodded. "While that is true does the punishment fit the crime? Think about it Candice, what did she actually do wrong?" I asked. "Told her father about the living water heart? I knew that was going to happen and let it. If that is the problem Elisia is just as guilty."

"Huh?" Elisia grunted sitting up looking around cautiously.

"What about the rest?" Candice asked.

"Her father's intention of using her to regain the dungeon?" I asked.

"YES!" Candice said exasperated after swallowing some of her eggs.

"I will question her on that, but I am not aware of her actually doing anything against us. Besides she will still have some restraint spells on her, isn't that punishment enough?" I asked.

Candice took a deep breath then let it out slowly. "Alright, I get your point." she agreed.

"Jason?" Elisia started warily.

I looked over at the wolf. "Do you really think that I believe your father had no idea how the serpent clan's rules worked?" I asked her. "Your clans have been at odds for how many years and he is supposed to know nothing?"

Elisia dropped her head down her tail stilling.

"Both of them have their own agendas, I have an idea of Selia's father's plans at least partly, but I have no idea what the old wolf is up too. I can accept that, and the fact that I can't do anything about it except to prepare to defend myself." I continued. "However it will be your own actions that I base my opinions of you on. Each of you has fought for this dungeon, so I will leave it at that." I said looking around at all the beast girls and Firenne.

"What about the living water?" Candice asked.

I rolled my eyes. "What about it? The overseer said she would replace it if it she can't find it. And we have no idea who to blame besides your father's friend. If Selia's father did intend to retake the dungeon then it makes sense that he wouldn't need to steal it. He would get it when he gained control of the core." I explained. 'And if the overseer backs out of that deal, what am I even able to do?' I added to myself.

Candice froze when I reminded her that it was her own ride that had stolen the living water. "I ...fine." she said with a sigh.

I sipped what remained of my coffee as my mind started to catch up with all that was going on.

"You really don't care?" Candice asked interrupting my thoughts.

"Who said that?" I asked coldly. "I just realized that there are limits to what I am capable of. Punishing someone who could move around here with the shield up and the overseer watching, and slip out unnoticed? I might want to be angry, no, I am pissed, but there is nothing I can do." I told her while I clenched my fists together. "We need to secure the dungeon, then explore our surroundings and make a plan on how to proceed. Running off to find someone I don't even know how to track would be a pointless endeavor." I told her.

My shoulders sank as I said it. I had known I was powerless, but as things seemed to come together and my success at defending against Seth, I had started to think I could handle this. I didn't think I was wrong, not completely, but I have to admit I was still under the whims of much more powerful beings. The only way to ensure my safety was to become stronger. I perked up as I came to that conclusion and was reminded of the information I had gained from my father. While nothing incredibly mind-blowing, or at least not for those who train in runes in the normal fashion. It was a huge deal for me given the unusual conditions I had learned runes in. That and the breakdown that helped me to understand the information that Lilian had given me.

Frowning I looked around. "Where is Lilian?" I asked as I hadn't seen her since I woke up.

"Resting." Candice replied quickly.

I looked over at her curiously as she focused on her breakfast. I waited for a few moments but she didn't say anything else. Looking around the room I noticed that no one, not even Zephirah was willing to meet my gaze.

"What did she do?" I asked suspiciously.

Candice shivered in her seat but remained silent.

I had only been mildly curious about the perverted fairy, but the absolute silence that I was receiving, added to the realization that the focus of Lilian's obsession was sitting here in front of me, while she was nowhere in sight made me incredibly curious.

"Candice." I called teasingly.

"She deserves it! If you let her out, I swear I will be leaving the moment I am able!" Candice told me looking up from her eggs and glaring at me her cheeks flushed in anger.

I froze in place wondering 'what the hell did that floating pervert do?'
