When Cheol-ho returned to the restaurant and opened the door, he felt some sort of strange aura.

Cheol-ho tilted his head curiously. It didn’t feel ominous at all, but rather friendly and cozy.

Who could it be?

When Cheol-ho stepped through the door , he faced a woman he had never seen before.

“Well…”

Cheol-ho carefully placed his groceries on the floor and looked at her with his arms crossed.

She had the appearance of an adult woman. But although she looked human, she was certainly not human.

For one, there were wings on her back. From afar she would look like a bipedal dragonfly.

She was also about one meter tall.

The woman glanced at Cheol-ho, flapping her wings, and nodded to him politely.

“Oh, Cheol-ho! Are you back?!” shouted Khan, as he walked into the dining room.

“What happened?” replied Cheol-ho.

“Oh, uhm.”

Khan was in a state of great excitement, and couldn’t help but shout in a very loud voice.

“Tangerine turned out to be a Spirit Class master!”

* * *

Her spirit was the Spirit of Water.

“My mother was a blue dragon. During the exchange between Waterland, where the Blue Dragon clan lives, and Dragon Mountain, the home of the Red Dragon clan…”

“I see.”

The society of dragons wasn’t very different from that of humans. Except for the matter that they were very powerful, lived longer, and thought differently.

Anyway, this revealed the identity of Tangerine.

Tangerine was a Blue Dragon, and they were masters of the Water Spirit of water class.

Tangerine smiled at the spirit she had evoked. She stretched out her hand, the Spirit lifting her up.

“Mama!”

“Tangerine, that’s not your mother.”

“Mamama!”

“It’s really not your mother.”

Tangerine played with the spirit for a long time. Khan shook his head, and asked “That’s a senior spirit, isn’t it?”

“Yes.”

It was currently in its non-combat mode. The power of the higher spirits in combat mode was formidable. Spirits were divided into lower, middle, and upper classes, and above them all was the King of Spirits. He had never seen a summoned King of the Spirits before.

Among them, the upper spirits were intelligent creatures with human-like intellect. This meant communication was possible, and they could even be given instructions to carry out autonomously.

Spirits were a myriad of differing creatures summoned from the multidimensional spiritual world, collectively referred to with the simplified term ‘spirits’.

So, a Spirit of Water was called an ‘Undine’, and a Spirit of Fire was called a ‘Salamander’.

A spirit dimension meant that there were at least four dimensions.

Earth’s dimension, the Esfan Continent dimension, the demon land, and the spirit world.

“Hmm.”

And…

A gap between dimensions was opened, connecting two of them…?

Cheol-ho shook his head after thinking for a long time.

By the way, Tangerine was quite good.

Spirits? She had certainly mastered something useful.

Spirits were convenient.

All of their attributes were useful and applicable in everyday life.

“Did you teach her how to clean?” Cheol-ho suddenly asked.

Khan grinned and gestured for him to look at the floor.

The floor was polished clean enough to show his reflection.

“Hmm?”

Suddenly, Tangerine quietened down. When Cheol-ho turned to her, she was drawing on the floor with crayons again.

She looked excited.

The senior water spirit hovering in front of Tangerine was playing with her fingers, pointing at the picture as she drew.

When she finished drawing, the spirit moved its hand and wiped it away neatly.

Cheol-ho smiled and muttered, ” As expected, having a spirit is efficient.”

It was good.

Now that she had awakened to her ability, he decided ,

Why don’t they have a party?

* * *

The oil-filled pot heated up quietly.

Cheol-ho picked through the materials on the cutting board one by one.

The meat he had went grocery shopping today for was chicken.

Recently, he bought chicken and made chicken soup. That time, it was boiled chicken he had made. This time, he was going to make fried chicken.

Yeah.

It was chicken. The food that tangerine drew exactly 34 times was chicken.

“Chicken… chicken is good.”

Thirty years ago, there was high demand for chicken in the country.

All kinds of chicken seemed to have become popular… seasoned chicken, soy sauce chicken and so on. There were 100 ways chicken could be made with various combinations.

But among them, Cheol-ho’s favorite was the simplest, most basic, fried chicken.

In fact, chicken was a great food. Chicken was delicious when grilled, steamed, fried, and roasted. Chicken could be substituted with monster meat, but Cheol-ho preferred chicken for its appearance.

Cheol-ho believed chicken dishes had more impact because of their appearance.

Anyway.

He preferred fried chicken because it was the base of many other kinds of chicken dishes.

Ramen and chicken were similar in that sense. Should he say that it’s because of true love? That was Cheol-ho’s theory.

* * *

First of all, the chicken had to be washed well.

Then, sprinkle salt, pepper, and other seasonings on the skin and wait for them to be absorbed. It would take 30 minutes to an hour.

Cheol-ho waited patiently.

“Tangerine! Get lost! Don’t eat that!!”

Far away in the bathroom came the sound of Khan desperately trying to stop Tangerine from eating the soap. Cheol-ho chuckled.

It was already past the time needed for the chicken to be done.

He soaked the frying powder in a bowl of milk. Then he would add milk to the batter until the batter was thick enough to be able to knead well.

The batter held the little pieces of chicken together.

If you drop a little bit of the dough in the oil, you could roughly tell the temperature of the oil.

If the dough rose upwards, then the oil was very hot.

Cheol-ho carefully placed each chicken piece into the oil.

sizzle!~

The dough touching the pot surface began to fry. Cheol-ho liked the sound of the oil splashing very much.

Then you turn over the chicken pieces in the oil, and wait again.

Come to think of it, he hadn’t had chicken in a long time.

Cheol-ho’s recipe was in fact very simple and short. There was nothing luxurious about it, and it wasn’t time consuming.

It was all because there was plenty of time to cook it and eat it. The method was a breeze.

In a blood-shedding battlefield, a meal was just fuel for survival.

But Cheo-ho had wanted to eat something delicious, so he tried different methods to change and enhance the flavour.

Fries were a luxury here.

In the past, oil was scarce and fried foods were rare because they took a long time to cook.

He had heard fries were delicious. It was sad to think about now, because he never had time to taste them.

“Fries.”

Cheol-ho laughed, looking down at the pot.

The fried chicken in the pot was slowly cooking, coming along very nicely.

sizzle! pop!~

Now, to pull the chicken out.

The chicken was very crispy, coated in a yellowish batter.

The fried chicken looked so delicious, Cheol-ho unwittingly picked up a chicken wing.

The wings were the most delicious parts. In particular, it was fun to eat the meat between the thin bones, and then chew on cartilage.

Well, maybe not.

Legs were better than wings, weren’t they?

Weren’t the legs the best part of the chicken? You grab a big chicken thigh, and you munch on the broad top…

Hold on, hold on.
Hmmm.

Cheol-ho thought more seriously than ever. Then suddenly, he felt two eyes staring at him. He turned his head.

“Hehe.”

Tangerine was staring at Cheol-ho with her eyes wide open. She looked very surprised.

“Meniwu!”

“Today’s menu?”

“Meniwu!”

She had said all the words she knew.

Cheol-ho shook his head and extended a piece of chicken to Tangerine.

“Let’s eat it later. All right?”

Tangerine grabbed a chicken stick without answering, and gobbled it up.

“…”

She didn’t respond at all. Cheol-ho turned around.

“…you.”

The little dragon had tears in her eyes.

“Well, is it that delicious?”

Tangerine nodded vigorously. She was so cute, Cheol-ho had to bite his lip to stay quiet. He reached out and patted her cheeks.

“Wait for just a little while longer.”

And so the chicken was finally finished.

Cheol-ho pressed paper into a large basket, and stacked a pile of fried chicken on top of it. The chicken piled up like a mountain. Cheol-ho felt a glow of pride at the sight of it.

“Khan,” Cheol-ho asked, looking at Khan’s dazed and bewitched expression.

“Huh?”

“In our world, when eating chicken together , there’s a way to learn the nature of the other person. It reveals who they really are.”

“Hmm?” Khan asked in confusion. “Is there really such a way? Is it magic?”

“No.”

“Come on, Khan. Which part will you eat first?” Cheol-ho asked, with his arms crossed.
