Chapter 9: Centenary Killing [III] (1)

Translator: 安贝-Peggyan

The King of Kingdom Wei said with doubt, “I know you two come from the snowland, but...” What he wanted to say was that no matter how powerful they were, they couldn’t be that easy to kill the King of Kingdom Liang who was protected by 100,000 soldiers.

“Really? Is it true?” asked one staff officer with an unbelievable look even more melodramatic than his King’s. They had sent countless assassins to kill the King of Kingdom Liang. However, he, whose martial art was strong, was also around by many guards, so ordinary ones couldn’t even approach him. Besides, they had also adopted many plans to annihilate him, such as poisoning, assassinations, honey-traps, and so on. But, he had seen them all through and even sent the fingers of the deceased ones back to them one by one.

They thereby had given up assassinating him ever since.

“You don’t need to care about how we make it. But, we’ll kill him,” said Xiao Rang while shrugging his shoulders.

“When does the battle start?”

“No no no, we won’t have a battle.” The King of Kingdom Wei fixed his eyes on me after he stopped looking at Xiao Rang. He said, “We’re only prepared ourselves for a City-wall Warfare since we aren’t a matched rival to Kingdom Liang. After all, its army is approaching us, and we’re in urgent need of soldiers and army provisions.”

“Don’t bother it. You make preparation tonight and wage a life-and-death struggle with the King of Kingdom Liang tomorrow. But, I promise you that he’ll absolutely die tomorrow,” said Xiao Rang with the heavy knight’s spear on his shoulder.

“Yes...yes.” The King of Kingdom Wei lowered his head.

“Let’s go,” I said to Xiao Rang who was totally unconcerned.

Xiao Rang who immediately put away his unconcerned look said seriously, “Yes, Your Highness.”

Discussions arose behind us before we stepped out the door, indicating that those staff officers of the King of Kingdom Wei were arguing with each other.

“Do you think what they said is true?”

“Your Majesty, please think it through. There is a possibility that they actually work for our enemies and want to lure us into the trap, thus, ruining all of us once for all.”

“I’m don’t think so. We all saw that they befell on the Jiangning Battlefield from the sky.”

“How is that impossible? This may be a trick our enemies use to fool us. Your Majesty, please think twice.”

“You’re aware of the power of divine spirits, aren’t you? They can easily wipe off ten more troops of the King of Kingdom Liang. I don’t know why they wanted to help us, but do we really want to let go of such a great opportunity?”

“Your Majesty...”

“Please think twice!”

“Enough!” Standing on the center, the King of Kingdom Wei kept silent for a long time after he said this. His assistants and staff officers didn’t dare to interrupt him. He took a deep breath and said, “Gather our soldiers and fight against the enemies at Bowang Slope tomorrow. ”

We could still hear sighs and exciting sounds, especially from the staff officer who strongly supported the King of Kingdom Wei to fight.

At night-

A man standing on the gate tower released a gray pigeon that was specially used to deliver messages at night. It could tell from the speed of the pigeon being released that secrets messages had been delivered like this many times. It cooed and flew downstairs.

As it flew halfway, it was suddenly frozen, and a pair of fair hands took out a letter from its leg. After reading it, the owner of the hands put the letter back with a smile and used his wizardry to melt the pigeon. When the pigeon brought back to normal from the frozen condition, it shook its head, cooed, and soared to the night sky.

“Your Majesty, you...”

“That’s all right. It’s no big deal.”

I smiled and then said, “Let’s go. We should have a good rest tonight, for we have something big to do tomorrow.”

I could barely see Xiao Rang’s face in the darkness, but Xiao Rang still nodded and said, “En.”

I started walking forward with a vague smile on my face, but Xiao Rang still stood motionless.

“Eh? What’s up?”

“Your Highness, what on earth do you want to do?”

“To ruin Kingdom Liang.”

“For what?”

“Xiao Rang, don’t you think the story reflects me and my brother?”

“But, Your Highness, it just reflects that. Do you abandon the throne?”

I fell into silence for a long time.

“That’s okay. Your Majesty, whatever you do, you have my full support,” said Xiao Rang with one knee down.

“Then we go back.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Actually, I didn’t know if I wanted to succeed to the throne or not, Xiao Rang. In my view, the King of Kingdom Wei who had suffered repeated defeats was more resolute than me, for he had risked his life to try to pursue what he wanted. However, I lived in a place where my brother wouldn’t find me in his entire life. I was afraid I would gradually lose my wizardry and die humbly like that in the mortal world.

But, do you know, Xiao Rang? I would rather stay here than kill my brother with my wizardry.

The next morning, the King of Kingdom Wei gathered his soldiers up. There were about 30,000 soldiers totaled in the entire capital while his old enemy had 100,000 soldiers, or even more. Hence, there was no hope for him to win.

“Let your troop charge forward, and you’ll win.” I nodded at him with a smile.

He nodded back with his eyes full of thrilling hope.

“Kill! Charge forward!”

The 30,000 soldiers looked uncertain after knowing that they were dispatched to die. Xiao Rang and I followed the King of Kingdom Wei on a horse.

It was still at dawn, and the King of Kingdom Wei rode on his horse straight. Shortly, I saw rolling sand and dust on the horizon. There was a big character “Liang” on the battle flag. Our enemies were high-spirited while we were demoralized. The King of Kingdom Wei was really good at encouraging his soldiers, though.

“Soldiers, trust me! We won’t lose the battle this time!” said he with his eyes teeming with thrill. However, his soldiers looked terrified without speaking much.

Sparse voices came to our ears and slowly spread over.

Afterward, the King of Kingdom Wei got close to me and said, “Count on you two.”

Two soldiers attempted to flee from the flank right at the time. Their sudden runaway made more horses roar with terror. I threw a glance to Xiao Rang who then gave me a gentle smile. He thrust his knight’s spear out and pierced through them.

The rest of the soldiers eyed each other in speechless despair upon seeing such a brutal scene.

Originated from the army, Xiao Rang was brutal and tyrannical like his father.

He roared angrily, “Any deserter deserves to die.”
