After Ai went back to the ward and settled Lu Zhanke, she then sat on the bench outside the ward along to enjoy the tranquility.

Yang Anxin came to see Zhanke, but she only saw AI reading on the bench in the corridor, and the doctor was applying ointment to Lu's chest.

Yang Anxin gave a glance inside and asked Ai, "Why are you sitting here?"

Ai said it was too crowded inside so she didn't want to go in. She asked why Yang came since she had to take care of Pei Mu at home. After all, it took several days to come back and forth.

Yang Anxin said she came here to take Pei Xiaopang back from his grandmother's home, and dropped by Lu. She pointed to the pile of bags at her feet, "They heard I would come today, so they gave all they had to me. They are for Lu. If I couldn’t carry all of them, there would have been loads of things delivered here by car."

Having known about there were so many people worrying about Lu Zhanke, Ai Changhuan was very touched, “Thank you, Anxin. And please give my thanks to those who worried about Zhanke.

"I see. I will tell them. And,” Yang Anxin handed over a basket she brought, “These are the fruits of those trees you grew. They are already ripe so I brought them over."

Ai Changhuann looked at the peaches she grew, which were put in apple-pie-order in the basket. It made her glad by just looking at them. She counted and there were more than ten in the basket. Ai was delighted, “This is my first time to plant. I didn’t expect that those fruits look so good."

“They are good. I brought all the peaches that are ripe. It takes a couple of days to get all peaches ripe."

Ai held the peaches, giggling as if she picked up money on the street. She put the peaches in the room and went to wash them with Yang Anxin.

“Anxin, thank you.” Ai knew Yang must be busy with all kinds of stuffs at home when she was away for such a long time. Yang also helped taking care of vegetables she grew in the yard. They must have been rotten if Yang hadn’t brought them to her. Then all her effort would be in vain.

“Nothing. I just did what I should do. But...” Yang seemed to be hesitant. She stammered, “Did you argue with Lu? You seemed to be unwilling to get along with him.”

Yang didn’t buy her excuse that it was too crowded in the ward.

Ai was embarrassed. She equivocated, “Nonsense. How could we argue?”

She couldn't tell her she avoided Zhanke because he always teased her.

Yang Anxin looked at Ai Changhuan but deliberately avoided her eyes. She kept washing the peaches silently.

Ai Changhuan noticed she was about to speak but stopped so she grew suspicious, "Anxin, what happened?"

Yang Anxin put a washed peach into the fruit bowl, and then said deliberately but she pretended not to, "I mean, here is not a barrack. You'd better watch him closely, in case...in case..."

Ai changhuan knew her implication. Her heart skipped a beat, "What do you mean by this, Anxin? I'm kind of stupid. Just tell me plainly."

"There's nothing else I can tell you but one thing I experienced. A couple of years ago, Pei Mu got injured and was in hospital. At that time Weizhi was only one year old. Elderly people in my family weren't in good health. I was totally anxious but I had no time to take care of him. So I could only gave him a phone call from time to time. Later, I felt Pei Mu was a little bit strange. So I secretly asked his comrades and there was one who told me hesitatingly that a nurse in the hospital paid special attention to him and Pei Mu also treated her... I immediately got the key point. I asked my parents to take care of my kid and hurried to the hospital. You know what? When I arrived there, Pei Mu was talking and laughing with the nurse. Although I knew he was the kind of person who smiled with everyone, I still felt terrible. I thought luckily that I came. The nurse looked clouded the moment she saw me, and she never came back.

I asked Pei Mu, but he denied. He never mentioned the woman again or saw her again. Over the years, I started to realize that maybe there was nothing between them. But every time I think about it, I still feel uncomfortable. Changhuan, I decide to remind you because I regard you as a congenial friend of mine. Don't think about it too much."

Ai Changhuan was dumbfounded. It was surprising that Pei Mu had a disgraceful stigma because he looked honest and faithful. At the same time she also admired Yang xinxin secretly for her decisiveness.

“If I were you, I would have struggled for half a month before making a decision.” But when she finally decided, it would be too late.

Seeing Ai scared, Yang Anxin comforted, "You should trust his willpower as a soldier. Temptation is not a big deal. I just want to remind you."

Ai Changhuan blinked, "No, no, no. It is important. It's really surprising! Someone does like to cause a love triangle."

"I don't think they did it on purpose. They just couldn't help it. Maybe at the beginning, they admired them and couldn't help taking care of them. And they gradually drowned into it." Otherwise, that girl would not have left without doing anything. Perhaps Yang's arrival reminded her that the man was married.

"Can't help it?" Ai Changhuan suddenly thought of the girl she met in the pavilion. Ai noticed there was full of fanatical worship in her eyes when she looked at Lu. After she heard Zhanke was married, her expression told Ai that she couldn't accept it.

"So you're always right to be on guard." Yang said. "Sometimes men enjoy the feeling of being admired. Don't be careless to him and sometimes you should compliment him to let him know that you care about him."

"Well, I see."

They washed peaches and went back to the ward. The doctor had left, leaving a nurse standing in front of the bed. She seemed to be saying something.

Ai Changhuan recognized that the nurse was just the one who she met in the pavilion.

Seeing Ai Changhuan came back, Ouyang Zhenzhen did not say anything. When she was about to go, she saw the peaches and said, "His wound has not fully healed. He's better not eat them."

Then she turned and left without hesitation.

Ai Changhuan gave a subtle look at Lu Zhanke.

Lu Zhanke shrugged, implying he was innocent. He then turned to talk to Yang Anxin.

Yang Anxin let him have a good rest, not worrying too much about things in the barracks. And she went back home to pick up Pei Xiaopang. So there were only two of them left in the ward, looking at each other.

Zhanke's sight fell on the peaches. He smiled, "Yang told me that you grew those peaches. Was she lying to me? How can you do it so well?"

Ai Changhuan rolled her eyes, "Don't underestimate me. Why can I not plant it?"

Zhanke still smiled, "Perhaps they just looked good. In fact, they taste sour."

Ai Changhuan laughed speechlessly, "How did you know if you never taste it?"

"Well. Give me some." Zhanke seized this opportunity to make a request.

This was what he was waiting for.

Ai Changhuan picked up a red and big peach, swaying it in front of him, "You want to eat?"

Zhanke nodded. In fact, it was not for eating peaches. After all, Ai Changhuan planted them for him. He should at least eat one.

But Ai put the peach back, “Didn’t you hear what the nurse said? She said your wound didn’t heal yet. You can’t eat this.”

Lu said coldly, “That's fucking nonsense. I saw my wound clearly when she applied ointment. It has been cured. And I have never heard that I can’t eat peach before wound heals.”

It was her first time to hear Lu swear. Ai was surprised. 'It looked like he really wants it.'

But she didn't want to give him at all.

"Give me one." Lu kept requesting.

Ai peeled the peach, and then cut a small piece of peach with a knife to Zhanke, "You promised me you can only eat one piece."

Zhanke nodded, "OK."

Hearing him promise, Ai Changhuan put the peach close to his mouth. He opened his mouth, holding it in the mouth.

He chewed it. His expression was subtle.

Ai Changhuan was somewhat nervous, "how does it taste? Sweet?"

He smacked it twice and said, "That piece is too small. I swallowed it too fast. I didn't taste anything. Give me another piece."

"Really?" Ai Changhuan looked at him suspiciously.

Lu Zhanke was clam, saying seriously, “It is true. Give me one more piece.”

OK. Ai cut another piece of peach. Lu kept asking her to cut a bigger one. Ai glared at him, “Stop being noisy. Or you stay hungry to death.”

So Lu shut his mouth up as she asked.

Although she talked tough to Lu, she still cut a bigger piece of peach to Lu.

Lu didn’t swallow it quickly but chewed it slowly. His expression was, kind of, complicated.

He seemed to enjoy but endure something.

Ai was anxious. She queried, “How did it taste? Sweet or sour?”
