“Don’t be nervous,” Ku Mu said. “They are Marked Warrior Masters of the Outer Door disciples of the Chen Xiao Sect. They are responsible for guarding the surrounding mountain.”

Guo Shier was surprised. “Marked Warrior Masters can fly?”

“Of course, they can fly! They have Flying Glyphs with them. Why do you ask? Don’t you have Flying Glyphs there?” Ku Mu asked back, suddenly understanding Guo Shier’s astonishment.

Guo Shier can’t help but smile. Of course he doesn’t have a Flying Glyph. This is the first time he even heard about it.

“No,” he said. “Even Grandmaster level Rune Smiths don’t make Flying Glyphs. I don’t even think they know about the existence of Flying Glyphs.”

The two Marked Warrior Masters flew towards them. When they saw it was Ku Mu, they smiled. They dared not obstruct the trio any further.

Ku Mu waved and said, “Open the Rune Array Mountain Shield. Allow us to pass through.”

The two Marked Warriors respectfully saluted, “Yes. lord.”

They immediately turned back and flew down.

“Rune Array?” Guo Shier asked.

Ku Mu looked at him. “You don’t even know what a Rune Array is?”

“I really don’t know,” Guo Shier replied, embarrassed.

Ku Mu shook his head. “I have never heard of such a low-level Rune World before. Strange, no one has conquered and controlled this World you speak of?”

Guo Shier was horrified to hear those words. He was about to reply but Ku Mu interrupted him.

”Pay attention, we are entering the Rune Array. Don’t move!”

Upon entering, Guo Shier quickly analyzed the location. The mountain, the trees, the lakes appeared to be normal, but he was confused on the lack of wildlife. No beasts or birds can be seen. This place seemed to be a restricted area.

“That was the Rune Array Mountain Shield,” Ku Mu said. “It’s not very powerful. It can only resist an attack from a Rank 5 Marked Beast Variant.”

Guo Shier knew exactly how powerful a Rank 5 Marked Beast was. That huge Mammoth Beast Variant hasn’t even reached Rank 5, but Luo Jie’s team was already running desperately away from it. If it were a Rank 5 Marked Beast, they would have no hope of escaping.

Ku Mu suddenly accelerated. Guo Shier had no time to sigh.

They continuously flew over a dozen peaks.

“We’ll soon arrive at the Chen Xiao Sect mountain gates,” Ku Mu declared.

“Is it that town?” Guo Shier asked, staring at the small town not far away.

Ku Mu took them directly across the town. “That is a Rune City. The mountain gates are not there.”

Amidst their conversation, Guo Shier noticed a lot of people flying through the air with their Flying Glyph. He was mesmerized by the sight and couldn’t help but ask, “Is a Flying Glyph worth a lot of money?”

“There are different kinds of Flying Glyphs,” Ku Mu explained. “An Advanced Flying Glyph is hard to come by, while a Low-Level Flying Glyph can be seen anywhere and is not that expensive. However, ordinary Sect Disciples are not permitted to use them.”

Ying Mo was gradually becoming accustomed to flying, although he hasn’t spoken and was simply observing quietly. He found Ku Mu to be very accommodating as he answered almost all of Guo Shier’s question patiently. Still, Ku Mu had a monotonous voice, and his face was without a hint of facial expression.

While crossing the town, Guo Shier noticed more people travelling by air at lower altitudes. Only a few of them were flying at higher altitudes.

“Are those flying higher using an Advanced Flying Glyph?” he asked.

“No. The people flying higher are not using a Flying Glyph. Those people are like me—they are flying without the Flying Glyph,” Ku Mu explained.

It became clear to Guo Shier that flying was a skill. He promised himself to master it later. Anyone trying to master this flying skill should at least be at the Grandmaster level, but he was still in the dark about his power ranking in this new world.

Ku Mu slowed down and landed on the ground with them two.

“This is a no-fly zone. We’ll have to walk up from here,” he said.

When Guo Shier heard the words ‘no-fly zone,’ he was very surprised.

He quickly asked, “Is this the mountain gate? But I didn’t see any gate.”

“The so-called Mountain Gate is just a symbolic word,” Ku Mu replied. “It doesn’t mean that a Mountain Gate would actually be present.”

In the middle of the lush forest, a not-too-wide green stone road stretched up towards the mountain top.

“Since this is the Mountain Gate, why is no one taking this path?” Guo Shier wondered out loud.

“This is just a narrow trail that branched from the main road. The big road is over there, which most of the Disciples take.”

The three of them walked down the long trail towards the mountain.

Ku Mu’s feet did not touch the ground and just floated forward, so his speed was relatively fast.

Ying Mo had to pick up Guo Shier to chase behind Ku Mu. Even as a Marked Warrior Grandmaster, Ying Mo was having a hard time keeping up.

Arriving at a mountain ridge presented them a view of a huge platform, which was around 3 square kilometers. The upper half of the mountain looked like it had been cut, exposing a huge cross section.

There were many people on the platform.

“This is the Chen Xiao Sect Square,” Ku Mu said. “The Sect can be accessed through here. If you pay attention to the ground, there’s a huge Rune Array printed on it. The Sigil lines are part of the array. Once an enemy is detected, a very powerful killing Rune Array is activated.”

Once Ku Mu reached the square, his speed drastically slowed down.

Guo Shier noticed that the people here dressed like the ancient Chinese, with long sleeved gowns fluttering in the wind. He became very aware that he was wearing fur and that he probably looked like a savage.

“Uncle Ying Mo, let me down.”

Ying Mo crouched down and whispered, “Shier, be careful. We are in unfamiliar territory.”

“Don’t worry, no one here would dare provoke you,” Ku Mu said.

Guo Shier laughed. “It’s okay, Uncle Ying Mo. I will be careful.”

Before Guo Shier could finish talking, he heard someone laughing.

“Ha-ha! Where did that little savage come from?”

“Is it a slave?” another person asked.

Ku Mu flew out like a lightning bolt. In an instant, he came before the two people who were gossiping.

Bam! Bam!

Blood gushed out into the air.

Guo Shier saw what happened. The gossipmongers were two young people who were wearing royal blue robes. Ku Mu slapped them, and they are now lying on the ground spitting a mouthful of blood.

The two had several companions, and one of them immediately exclaimed, “It’s Martial Uncle Ancestor Ku Mu!”

Everyone suddenly turned pale with fright. Ku Mu was known to be cold and ruthless in the Chen Xiao Sect. He killed anyone who offended him without blinking.

The two people on the ground didn’t quite understand how they offended Ku Mu.

“Go to the Disciplinary Hall,” Ku Mu ordered coldly. “You both will receive ten sticks! If you dare talk anymore nonsense I will personally cut your heads and hang it on a flag pole! Do you understand? Scram!”

Guo Shier saw the two scrambling to get away. They were both filled with cold sweat.

When Ku Mu said, “No one will dare offend you here,” he meant it. Guo Shier was just laughed at randomly by two people and they were smashed immediately in the face!

“Those who wear green and grey robes are servants,” Ku Mu explained while the three of them walked. “Like that man in the gray robe and that woman in that green dress.”

“Outer Door Disciples wear dark green gowns, while the Inner Door Disciples wear royal blue robes,” he continued,

Guo Shier now knew that the two people who were beaten were Inner Door Disciples.

Ku Mu continued. “A Master level Elder mostly wears silver satin robes. Grandmaster Elders are dressed in special purple-red (fuchsia) gowns.”

The rankings here were distinct and clear—not as confusing or loose as within the North Rune Sect. The organizational structure here seemed to be more rigorous.

“What did you mean by slave?” Guo Shier asked.

“Slaves exist here. This is nothing to be concerned about,” Ku Mu said. “Most of them have been plundered from lower-level Worlds. In fact, most of the people here have been swept away from the lower Worlds.

“If you have strength—even if you are a slave—you will not suffer here,” he continued. “But the slaves are not free. Their life and death are controlled by their master.”

Guo Shier started feeling a bit heavy. He asked, “Are the people familiar with the Wild Beast Secret Realm?”

“Did you mean the Secret Realm we were at?” Ku Mu asked.

Guo Shier nodded. “Yes.”

Ku Mu said, “I just happened to come across that Secret Realm. No one here should know about it. The address of that Secret Realm is hidden; after all, it’s a treasure trove of raw materials. No one is stupid enough to share this Secret Realm with others.”

Guo Shier was able to relax a bit.

“Are you afraid that we will rush to your World?” Ku Mu asked. “Don’t worry, only around ten people can travel to this place at one time. This is an invisible restriction, like the rules set by the Secret Realms. This force cannot be easily be countered.”

Ku Mu left out one thing, though. He did not mention that the Sect’s large Rune Gate that had access to low-level Worlds. It was just very expensive to use. If there was no absolute reward, the Sect didn’t use the large Rune Gate.

“The number of people allowed to travel from low-level worlds to a higher world is unlimited, but we discovered a big issue when that’s reversed. If this rule did not exist, the low-level worlds would have been conquered countless times already,” he continued.

They went towards the edge of the square platform.

Ku Mu pointed to the left side, “If there is no Rune Array blocking our path, you can fly directly towards our place at the West area of the Chen Xiao Sect.”

“Is this Rune Array the only way to access the Chen Xiao Sect?” Guo Shier asked.

Ku Mu nodded. “Yes, this is the only entry into the Chen Xiao Sect. Once the Rune Array on this square is activated, the mountain gate would be completely closed. No one can go out and no one can come in.”

Guo Shier was secretly scared. This level of defense was much stricter than the North Rune Sect. It also meant that it was much more dangerous than the North Rune Sect.

“Is it dangerous out there?” he asked.

Ku Mu did not expect Guo Shier to figure out so much of the situation this fast. This little fellow was not ordinary.

He nodded. “The outside is indeed dangerous—a hundred times more dangerous than you. It would be suicide for a person without the strength to walk outside. But you’ve already entered the Chen Xiao Sect, so you don’t have to worry. The Sect’s mountain door is relatively safe.”

“Where are we going?” Guo Shier asked.

“I’ll take you to the Sect’s registration. I’m going to take you in as my disciple. Are you willing?”

Guo Shier knew he could not refuse.

Fortunately, this situation wasn’t bad at all. Studying under a good teacher would certainly be good for him.

“Yes, Master,” he said. “You are now the second Master of Shier.”

He then bowed respectfully towards Ku Mu.

Ku Mu showed a smile on his iron-like face. He didn’t care about Guo Shier’s actions as long as he was officially recognized as his teacher.

He nodded. “Great! We’re going to fly now, so don’t move.”

He lifted the two with him from the platform and flew fast ahead.

A moment later, they landed on the side of a mountain where there was a small building.

“This is where the new Disciples for the Sect register,” Ku Mu said. “It is also the lobby where the Disciples accept their tasks from the Sect. Let’s go in.”

There were two Inner Door Disciples standing by the door. They hurriedly saluted when they saw Ku Mu leading people in.

“Greetings to Martial Uncle Ancestor Ku Mu,” they said.

(Note: The rank of Ku Mu is 师叔祖, which literally means ‘Martial Uncle Ancestor.’ When you become a member of a Martial Arts/Kung Fu type sect, they add a ‘Martial’ to how they call you. Example: Martial Brother, Martial Uncle, etc.)

The two Inner Door Disciples looked strangely at Guo Shier. They thought that this curious child was dressed like a barbarian. They didn’t understand why Ku Mu brought this child here.

“Who’s on duty today?” asked Ku Mu.

“Martial Uncle Yan Ling,” said one of the Inner Door Disciples. “I’ll inform him of your arrival.”

Ku Mu said, “No need!”

He went directly inside with Guo Shier and Ying Mo.

The disciple’s faces suddenly changed. “Holy shit! This is trouble!” they whispered.

Yan Ling was a middle-aged man. Right now, he lying half naked on the ground while hugging a wine gourd. His white robe was filled with wine stains.

From time to time, he would take a sip of his wine with his eyes closed.

The smell of wine was all over the place.

Ku Mu couldn’t help but frown when he came into the room.

“Yan Ling!”

Yan Ling just waved Ku Mu away and drunkenly said, “Hey, hey! Don’t bother Pops if it’s not important. Don’t disturb my drinking. Cool?”

“Asshole!”

Ku Mu’s slapped Yan Ling on the face. The green skinned wine gourd broke and spread wine all over.

Yan Ling jerked up.

“My wine! Who the fuck is it!?!”

When Yan Ling opened his eyes and saw Ku Mu, he couldn’t help but gape in fright. He could never have imagined that Martial Uncle would ever come here. Ku Mu usually went to the Lobby for tasks.

“He-he! It’s Martial Uncle Ku Mu. Ehe-he! Oh, is this your disciple? Cough! Cough! Ehem.”

Yan Ling tried to pull himself together. He was unexpectedly scolded by the most difficult person within the Chen Xiao Sect.

Ku Mu sneered. “You are on duty. This is not a tavern! If you don’t want to do it, just quit.”

Yan Ling was already crying inside. He wanted to curse the two Inner Door Disciples who were supposed to be ‘secretly’ guarding the door outside. He had no idea that Ku Mu didn’t let the Disciples notify him.

“Ahe-he! Martial Uncle, all Disciples are immature. He-he! Disciples must change, and I would definitely change. Ah that’s right, why did Martial Uncle come here? Is it something to do with your Disciple?”

Ku Mu didn’t want to be held down and stopped pursuing the matter.

“I want you to process a registration for a Personal Inheritance Disciple,” he said. “Also, process a registration for an Inner Gate Disciple.”

Yan Ling was shocked, “Martial Uncle, you are taking in a Personal Disciple?”

“Are you saying that I can’t have a Personal Disciple?”

Yan Ling hastily said, “What? No, no. What I mean is you actually got one… er no. Um. Congratulations Martial Uncle! Congratulations, little brother! Hahaha!”

Although Yan Ling drank a lot of wine, he was still sober and knew what he was saying. He hurriedly corrected himself and congratulated Ku Mu.

Ku Mu decided to let the issue go.

Ku Mu was famous in the Chen Xiao Sect for being picky and difficult. Until now, he has always been alone.

The Chen Xiao Sect once had a large-scale recruitment of Disciples. The Sect let Ku Mu be the first to choose an apprentice, but he instead he shouted, “What a waste of my time!” Then, he just turned around and left. All the Seniors were so angry they almost vomited blood.

Yan Ling did not expect that Ku Mu would actually take the initiative to receive a Personal Inheritance Disciple. This was a big deal.

(Note: If I’m not mistaken, a Personal Inheritance Disciple would receive all the knowledge and wealth of their master. If their master passes away, the disciple literally inherits everything their master owns.)

Ku Mu was among the top three in terms of strength within the Chen Xiao Sect. Very few Ancestral rank masters in the Sect were better than him, so he enjoys very high prestige.

Yan Ling immediately started processing the necessary procedures for the registration. It involved the welfare rights and obligations the Sect would provide.

A Personal Inheritance Disciple is a special position in the Sect. It had a higher status than an Inner Door Disciple. They almost never have to take up Sect tasks and can just leisurely take on most of the jobs except for the very important ones.  Yan Ling himself is a Personal Inheritance Disciple.

“Martial Uncle, to complete the formalities of accepting your Disciple, you must report at the meeting of the Patriarch and Elders. He-he!”

The procedures were very simple. Yan Ling mainly asked for the name, age, and their personal Rune imprint.

“Okay little brother, this is your identity Rune Card,” Yan Ling said to Guo Shier. “Hang this on your waist, please. Be careful to keep it safe. If you lose it we must reissue you a new one.”

The little piece of Rune Card gave a faint purplish glow. When Guo Shier hanged it on his belt, it almost became an ornament because of its beauty.

Ying Mo received an Inner Door Disciple Rune Card, indicating that he was serving under Ku Mu. But he was just borrowing Ku Mu’s name; in truth, Ying Mo was still following Guo Shier.

“There will be people coming over soon,” Yan Ling said. “They will be bringing over items tailored to you. You have to verify and sign a receipt once you receive them.”

“Are we done?” Ku Mu asked.

Yan Ling broke out in a cold sweat. “We’re just about done,” he sheepishly said.

He patiently explained some important matters to Guo Shier to make sure he understood everything. If he didn’t do this, Ku Mu would be angry at him again.

After explaining everything, Yan Ling declared, “Martial Uncle, everything’s done.”

“Thank you, brother,” Guo Shier thanked Yan Ling with a smile

Yan Ling was flattered.

“He-he! No need to thank me! In the future we will be Martial Brothers. We are family now.”

Ku Mu quipped, “Let’s go.”

After the three people left, Yan Ling shouted, “You two little bastards! Come in! Get your asses here. You dare play around with Pops? Fuck! Martial Uncle came and you guys said nothing. Do you think I’m a joke? Huh?!?”

The two Inner Door Disciples crawled in, crying “Martial Uncle Ancestor stopped us from alerting you of his presence. Please don’t blame this on us.”

Yan Ling kicked them.

“Can’t you just speak louder so I can be a little prepared? Huh!”

The two Disciples didn’t know what to do.

“Martial Uncle, we are sorry. It’s our fault. Our lord, please spare us!”

Yan Ling glanced at the broken green gourd.

“Fine, do you want confession or punishment?”

“What is the difference between the two?” a disciple asked with trepidation. “Will you let us choose?”

“For punishment, I’m going to give you a public beating. If you confess, all you have to do is buy me two gourds of wine.”

“We confess!” the two Disciples repeated.

They couldn’t afford to get punished publicly. Their life would be ruined. Of course they will choose to confess! Buying two gourds was not that expensive.

Yan Ling smirked. “Very good, I expect to receive a Blue Fruit Wine.”

The faces of the two Disciples suddenly turned green. Blue Fruit Wine was not cheap. It is one of the best wines in Chen Xiao Sect. But the two dared not refuse. They must just bitterly accept their fates.

Ku Mu returned to his residence with Guo Shier. It was a small manor with a mountain located behind it. This mountain was also part of Ku Mu’s private property.

There were very few people in his manor, most of them are ordinary.

Ku Mu was a loner. He had no wife nor children. He had no disciple or a personal attendant.

This little manor was his home. There were about a hundred small houses surrounding it. It was a long way compared to Luo Jie’s humongous manor.

Ku Mu briefly introduced everyone. There was a butler, two kitchen maids, two old gardeners, and four little house helpers. Nine ordinary people were taking care of the small manor.

It was obvious that Ku Mu has been neglecting the state of this place. The manor looked very shabby; the houses within have been badly damaged. They were unlivable.

“Old Yu, find a few clean houses for Shier to live,” Ku Mu ordered.

Old Yu is Ku Mu’s butler. His name was Yu Jie, a calm looking normal human in his fifties. He has been responsible for managing everything in the manor since his thirties.

It’s been a very hard job for Yu Jie. He couldn’t remember a time when Ku Mu gave him some Rune Money to take care of the place.

“Yes, master,” he answered. His face brightened up with a smile. Finally, there was a young master in the manor.

“I’m going to prepare…it’s just that…master…”

Ku Mu started to frown. “What? Say it. What are you hesitating about?”

“There is no food at home.” Yu Jie answered.

Ku Mu said, “Then buy some.”

Yu Jie smiled bitterly. “Master, we’re out of money”

Guo Shier can’t help but sigh. “Master, go ahead and rest. I’ll take care of this.”

Ku Mu showed a hint of embarrassment. He never took care of these things.

“Okay, from now on, Shier will be responsible for everything in the house. You all listen to him,” he declared.

Ku Mu went to his den after he finished talking.

Yu Jie was confused as to why Ku Mu would let a child take care of the household. This master was too irresponsible.

Guo Shier took out a Storage Rune Bag.

“Uncle Yu, can you call over everybody else?”

Yu Jie was startled. “Don’t call me Uncle. Just call me Old Yu or just Housekeeper.”

Guo Shier laughed. “Don’t sweat it Uncle Yu. Just call everyone over.”

Yu Jie called everyone working in the manor.

The place was really old and small. Guo Shier couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

He took out a dozen bags of flour and plenty of meat.

“Uncle Yu, take care of these. Prepare for dinner,” he said.

These were all the supplies that he carried.

Yu Jie was overjoyed. He was already dying of poverty.

“This is great! Thank you, young master.”

The crowd gathered in the little yard.

Guo Shier asked, “What does Rune Money look like here?”

He couldn’t help but grieve. Will he have to take care of everybody here by himself?

Yu Jie smiled bitterly. “We don’t have any Rune Money.”

Ying Mo shook his head. This Ku Mu never took care of things here. The people here were living a miserable life.

Guo Shier sighed. “Fine, let’s do this first. I’ll take care of the rest later.”

Yu Jie let the people store away the flour and meat.

“Master, if you don’t return we are going to starve to death.”

Guo Shier nodded. “Uncle Yu, don’t worry. I’ll return later.”

From the door of the manor, someone started to shout from outside.

“Hey! Open the door!”
