Chapter 317

Before my reincarnation, back on earth I was one of those people who loved to watch animals, especially when they fought. There was something so primal, barbaric and real about the way they went after each other. Animals had a presence of their own, they already knew how to fight, maybe even better than humans. It was because of that many martial arts were made based on the moves of an animal, it was because when it comes down to it, they were the true real masters of combat.

Every single fight of theirs was all heart and instinct, and they never hesitated to use their gifts to their advantage. They used their claws, their fangs, their tails and bodies every single time they fought. They never hold anything back, whether their opponent was stronger or weaker than themselves, that was the creed the lived by, even if they didn't know it. There was honor and respect in all of their battles, unfortunately for this random demon, I have absolutely no intention of giving or showing him any sort of respect.

I flapped my wings and went after him, claws outstretched and jaws opened wide. Our massive bodies slammed into each other with a loud bang, releasing a shockwave that imploded many of the glass windows in the city below. Since I was stronger, I was able to push back the demon dragon a bit, but I could not just rely on strength alone to beat him. He flapped his wings, and used the claws of his back legs to claw at my chest. There's was a grating sound and a shower of sparks were his claws met the metallic black scales of my chest, he left a white line behind, and a hot and painful feeling within my chest.

My defense was strong enough to withstand that strike, but it was so damn painful. It was like having a bruise. In retaliation I angled my head and stabbed my horns at his jugular. But he noticed and flapped his wings, separating himself from out tangle of bodies. But I was not going to let him escape, I shot towards him, And bring my horns towards his body like a mountain goat charging his enemy. In response to my charging form, he twirled himself around, and his tail with a huge spike at the end, most probably for bashing, slammed into my face and threw me of course.

In retrospect that hit did not cause any lasting or significant damage, but it was like stubbing your toe, which mean that it hurt like a bitch. And at the moment, my vampiric abilities seems to have taken a vacation as I couldn't use them in this form, at least not yet anyway, and because of that I had no access to my aura.

I lost control a bit and fell from the sky, taking out to sky scrapers and a couple of other buildings, amidst the screams and cries of the innocents that have been caught up in this fight. I felt all their souls and their soul energy depart from their body, they may be demons or at the very least a vampire that's a demon, but they were still people with hopes and dreams, and feelings. And as they died I felt it, every single feeling, and every single memory.

"What the fuck is this?" I asked myself surprised and almost overwhelmed by the barrage of souls and their memories. My entire emotions was in disarray, but I seemed to be calmer.

"This is what it means to be a Soul dragon king, or if we should remove the dragon from the title, A soul King. Someone who see's the souls of the dead, commands them, give peace to those that need it, punishment to those that deserves it, and new life to those who've earned. A living breathing mortal god of death and life. That's the true essence of your power, and that's why destiny has made you a vampire." Emrys answered from within the depths of my mind. But I had no time to ponder and contemplate on his words, as the demon dragon was coming towards me.

"Roooaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr!"
"Skreeeeeeee!"

I had no idea that dragons could screech in pain like that, but that's to be expected seeing as he just had napalm poured on his face, well not exactly napalm…..I really have no idea what a dragon's fire breath is composed of. At first it seems like just fire, but I know there's like magma mixed into it. The demon dragon angled his face in pain as he flapped his wings, flying upwards in an attempt to get away from the stream of black and white fire. I got up and followed behind him, unfortunately my take off completely flattened the area around my almost 80 + meter long body, completely eliminating and hope of survivors. The subsequent addition of souls to the ones I could already see floating around, was proof of that.

This was quite unfortunate, but I was in the middle of a fight, the only thing I could do was ignore it, and maybe try to move the fight away from the city as much as possible. I think that would be for the best. The demon dragon was up in the air roaring in pain and anger as he seemed to be flying around aimlessly. This guy had truly lost his mind, and coupled with the burns from my flames, there's no way he's in right mind. After all I knew that my flames did not just burn a person's body, they also burned their soul.

And a soul is the sum of a person's experience over an entire lifetime. Memories, mannerisms, character and emotions; the soul is an amalgamation of all this things. Any significant damage to the soul, even if it's a little can have adverse consequences. As in my case I had completely lost the memories of two entire lifetimes. But there was no more going back, I had to out an end to this guy before we cause any more damage.

He was hovering in the air, the left half of his face burnt into slag and ash. His left eye had gone pale, completely dead. Which was why he didn't see me coming as I smashed into him from below, throwing him upwards. I slashed my claws at his scaly under belly, drawing a deep red line as I broke through his defense and shredded the skin underneath. He roared in anger and bent his head downwards, opened his mouth and poured a stream of fire at me. I retaliate immediately sending my own stream as we circled around each other in the fire, trying to finger out who could exhale the longest. Unfortunately for me, it turned out to be him as I soon ran out of breath.

Now I knew my flames were more powerful than his, or it should be. But even though he only had 30% of the lower I had in this form, he still had a piece of a god's divinity with him. It was what was giving him power, the power of a god, and power powerful enough to match me when it comes to the potency of a technique. In this case let's just say in strength, speed, power and skills I had both quality and quantity. On the other hand he lacks quantity, and only has quality with skills, and even then I doubt he has access to any of his demonic skills, so just like me; for being in a dragon body he has to fight like one and there's n guarantee the essence of divinity with him can strengthen every skill he used.

But I lost our challenge of exhale? Which means there was a stream of fire rushing towards my majestic body. I let myself fall towards the earth, my back facing down, as I covered myself with my wings. With the wings into play, I was able to defend myself from the demon dragon's flames. I didn't even feel anything at all, which spoke volumes of the defense a real dragon had. When I was close enough to the ground, thankfully we were quite a distance from the city, I spread my wings and flew, gliding across the ground with just about a meter or two separating me from it.

The demon dragon seemed to hate that idea as he started spitting balls of fire at me. But no matter how fast he did that, none of them came close to touching me. In his frustration he dives, hoping to get closer so that he could get a more accurate hit. At this point we were over a forest of trees with absolutely no leaves, it was a dead forest.

When he got close enough and was about to spit out another fireball, I turned and spat mine out, two whole seconds before his. And that was enough time for my fireball to travel close to his face where it met his recently released fireball, and exploded in a shower of flames and light as both fireballs met each other.

With the explosion so close In proximity to his face, and given that he already had the unfortunate luck of experiencing what it meant to get burned in the face, he flew backwards at an incline with his one good eye closed, a simple reaction to the bright explosion he just witnessed. That was all the opening I needed, I flew towards him with a speed so fast I broke the sound barrier, leaving a sonic boom in my wake and destroying much of the dead forest below me. My tail ended in a point, with a spear shaped spike at the end of it. Of course the spike looked more like a silver metal than the ivory of bone, and it could separate itself into three partitions to make it seem like a trident.

I stabbed my tail into his already wounded stomach, and with the extreme speed I had used in my approach, my entire tail went through and deep into his body, the spikes on top of it shredding and causing more damage as they went in. But this was not the end for me. He raised his head up and roared in pain, and in a motion so familiar to me in my normal body, I opened my jaws wide, and clamped them down on his neck. His roars tapered out into mewling squeals as his blood flowed out from the wound I just made, and down my hungry throat.

His wings lost strength in them, and the bulk of his body pulled us down to the earth. But even with that I didn't let go, holding on like a lion in the wild and draining him of his blood as we fell from the sky. If anybody from earth would have witnessed us fall, they would say it was like watching a nuclear warhead hit the earth. And true to that observation, there was a loud explosion of fire, wind, dust and light as we landed smack dab in the middle of the dead forest, and destroyed everything for kilometers around us.

Quite a few people would have seen us fight, and they would have never forgotten the sight of two dragons fighting. I didn't think the fight lasted that long, but I was feeling quite exhausted. The dust around us finally settled, and in a crater so big I felt like an ant in a bowl, my human form was still draining blood from what looked like an amphibian demon. His skin was blue, he had fins of his forearms, gills on his neck, and webbing in between his fingers.

I didn't notice all this before because he was wearing an amour, but at least this more than explains why he had the longer dragon breath than me. I felt a pulse of energy from him, it was the essence of divinity, and it was inside his body, precisely over his heart. I pushed my hands into his chest and roughly pulled out the blackened organ with a golden crystal embedded on it.

The heart was out of the body, but it was still beating, even more strongly than I imagined. Given time, I'm sure if I left him like this, the essence would have healed him, but today is just not his lucky day. I crushed the heart in my hands, and met the shard rest on my palm as the bloody and crushed heart turned into dust and was blown as with the wind. Even his body did the same, and as for his soul, there was nothing left of it anymore.

I was naked, I seem to have lost all my clothes during the transformation, which means I have to use my armor for the time being. I waved my hand into the air, and a circular potato of darkness the size of a very large tray showed up in front of me. I placed my hands inside and pulled out my bag, I could feel the aura of the other piece of divinity from within it. Then all of a sudden a bright light flew out of my body and landed on my shoulder, it was Emrys.

"Those are the essence shards of a god's divinity and power. You can forge some really powerful god killing weapons from them. Especially if you use the resources of the mineral mountain, and some of the rare materials in the realm of kings. You would make weapons not in the least bit weaker than the dimensional keys. But of course you have to make sure the god that these belongs to is already dead, or else said god would be able to control the minds and souls of whoever wields the weapons forged from them." Emrys explained to me as he preened himself like a bird.

"Is that so? Emrys let's go visit a village, and then let's go see a bridge too." I said to him with a smile.

He looked a bit confused by my cheerful disposition, but all he could do was give me a wary look and say.

"Okay?"
