Chapter 001: Kailar Ettorek

The scenic view was beautiful and majestic. The maple leaves jutted outside the window was like a light spark floating under the breeze of a free-fire.

But the view he saw seemed off. The figure turned his head and furrowed his brows. Slight confusion churned inside the figure’s brain.

This seems wrong… where am I?

This quilted patterns…

The youthful figure drew his eyes in blank surprise. The quilted pattern design caused a sudden dawn of realization. The figure had long studied the set of patterns. The quilted patterns were old and ancient, somewhat legendary itself.

Only the Celtic nobles, ancestors to the modern Brittonic language, used this sort of twisted lap quilted patterns.

Huh…

The figure looked around the room. The designs, the decor, and the style of the room were inseparable and vastly similar to the Celtic peoples.

Why…?

While lost in thought, a shapely figure donned in white bulging maid clothing slowly turned the doorknob. She had unblemished skin with peaches and cream complexion. She showed a foolish and brilliant elegant smile as she looked towards the baby who seemed to look at the world in front of him with such wonders.

The woman walked towards the baby and held him gently in her arms.

She spoke in English but the language spoken seemed more incoherently difficult to understand than the modern language he was familiar with. The language had a sort of heavy noun inflectionand complex verbal conjunctions but he could vaguely guess what was said.

“You’re a beautiful baby. You are truly the son of the Grand Duke. You’ll a become a fine young lad and turn into a mighty knight.”

Knight? Had he heard the word correctly? Knight? The Knight? The Middle Ages?

No… the accent and times aren’t right…

The times and era based on what he knew thus far seemed more ancient.

Sounds like Old English…not Germanic English… rather foreign… the Celtic Era?

The sudden realization dawned on him.

No… that can’t be…

The youthful figure attempted to move his body but suddenly found an error. He looked at the small, lithe arms and fingers in front of him.

I’m a baby…? Are you kidding?!

M-my body… gone?!

I’m a baby?!

The youthful figure shook in panic and attempted to resist away from the woman’s grasp but the struggle was futile, useless for the woman only held him tighter in his embrace.

“Cute child…” She cooed before leaving the room.

As the woman walked through the halls, the little boy’s eyes flashed in awe.

The interior of the castle was covered with numerous red maple leaves swaying softly by the gentle breeze.

The decorum of the castle was minimalist and closely aligned with the laws of nature.

The youthful figure who lived in the Modern Era found the scenic view a wonderful sight and more spectacular than the sight of a skyscraper overlooking the vast expanse.

The forests, the plains, the rivers, lakes, and grasslands… all was perfect. Natural and perfectly tuned with the wondrous beauty of nature. It was like the heavens and earth collided and intersected into each other in this small little timeframe.

Such thoughts and scenery caused every cell in his body to boil.

It seemed like a heavenly dream.

……

Main Hall of the Castle.

The castle’s main hall was the largest room amongst the entire castle. Sitting on the throne with majestic grandeur is a powerful man named Andrea Ettorek, the Grand Duke who ruled over a vast kingdom. A smug smile tugged the corner of his lips whilst overlooking the rows of noble knights in heavy plated armor.

The maid hurried towards the main hall, carrying Andrea Ettorek’s newborn with tender care.

The maid quickly came over with the newborn placated between her arms. Andrea Ettorek’s usual dignified face lost all grandeur. His face bloomed into sour sweetness as his lips curved into silly smirks as he looked at his sweet beloved child.

God knows that the average life expectancy for newborn children was only five. If they managed to live beyond the years expected, they’d live a sureful prosperous life and could be considered a lucky one.

Following the Grand Duke’s humorous smirks, the knights boasted a good hearty laugh from the depths of their heart.

They watched their Grand Duke, a new father-to-be having trouble embracing his offspring with great difficulty.

Andrea Ettorek carefully placed his newborn in his arms, cradling him back and forth gently. As he did so, the seat grew rather uncomfortable and he looked as if working in a hard physical labor in the farmlands.

Or so he thought till the newborn grabbed his bearded face causing him to chuckle softly.

Andrea Ettorek then watched as his newborn rubbed the beard on the child’s wholesome body, feeling as if his father’s bearded face was like a rough needle-like sandpaper rubbing against him.

Andrea Ettorek looked helplessly at his newborn moaning in pain.

The knights’ hearty laugh muted in silence, suppressed by the self-respect they had for their Grand Duke.

ndrea Ettorek let out a deep helpless sigh. He was unsure how to deal with his newborn.

Smiling wistfully, Andrea Ettorek allowed the maid to take his newborn from his embrace. She had originally intended to let the child go back to see only to see Andrea Ettorek shake his head lightly.

“Helena, no.”

Andrea Ettorek’s voice brimmed a sense of charm and magnetism. With the baptism of the wind softly blowing by and his deep, mighty voice, it failed to hide the Grand Duke’s authoritative strength.

“As a child, I was brought up watching my great father hunt. Andrea Ettorek’s offspring, no matter what they become in the future, will surely watch and learn from what I have done growing up since childhood. He will grow to become a fine man!” The words the Grand Duke spoke caused a smile to form on the knights’ lips.

The Grand Duke reached out his hand and caressed the child softly with the pad of his thumb.

After a moment, Andrea Ettorek regained his usual dignified composure and spoke mightily loud and clear.

“Rose, there are too many thieves roaming freely in your territory. You need to clear them but be aware that you can’t send your people to kill them. His Majesty had already sent a notice priori. If you don’t clear them soon, I’m afraid it’ll only further anger His Majesty.” Rose was a man with deep black eyes, dark brown hair, and a beard distinctly coiled in two.

“Karote, this year’s harvest in your territory is not good enough. Though I understand the troubles and difficulties you’ve faced, I do hope you’ll be able to make up for this year’s taxes.” Karote was in a rather daft mood. He scrunched his nose before nodding his stern face.

“Guons, pay attention to the barbarians in the west. Our harvest naturally isn’t good and such they’ll most likely to cause havoc. Strictly guard the west during the autumn winds.” Guons’ handsome features were like a knife, sharp and silent. Upon hearing the Grand Duke’s commands, Guons’ nodded calmly.

“Cain, those damn Gauls and Romans continue to bother the coast. Stop their continuous troubles.” The faces of many contorted slightly. As a Celtic native, they’ve long been defeated by the Gauls before completing the racial integration in the Brittonic Isles.

The Gauls or otherwise known as the Gallic Tribes originated in parts of Eastern Europe, eventually moving westwards into what was now known as the French Gallo land.

“With that said, we are finished.” Andrea Ettorek spoke perfunctorily before turning his head towards his newborn, an eager smile written on his face.

“Yes!” The knights smiled faintly as they bowed.

“Next is my child. My sweet little child.” Andrea Ettorek donned a foolish smile, his rough hands taking him from the maid’s embrace into his arms. He pinched his son’s tender face softly.

“Right, Mary… my wife should take a look at our precious son. Our son! Our precious son!” Andrea Ettorek sang an odd English ballad. With the child in his embrace, Andrea Ettorek walked out of a beautifully handcrafted corridor and into the halls.

Stepping foot inside the bedroom, he saw an ephemeral silver-haired woman lying softly in the bed with a quilt in her hand. The sun gleamed above her, illuminating her worldly intellectual beauty while she was reading a sheepskin scroll.

Seeing a man walk in with a newborn placed in between his arms, the silver-haired woman placed the sheepskin scroll on the bedside table before turning her head towards the man. Her face glowed an ambient light. “Husband, this is our child?”

“Haha, my dearest wife, Mary… this is our child… the future heir of our Red Leaf Kingdom. Haha…” Andrea Ettorek chuckled softly, his whole body blooming with happiness.

“Right…” Mary who’d just recovered from labor faced her husband, the great ruler of the vast expanse, and spoke to him sincerely, “What is the name of our child?”

“Err…” Andrea Ettorek’s face stiffened.

“Dear!” Mary teased. “Don’t tell me you haven’t thought of a name for a child in the past three days while I was resting? Husband, you’re terrible!”

“Well, honey…” He coughed. “The reason why is because I wanted to wait for you to recover so we can both think of a name together for our child.” He smiled foolishly as he kissed Mary’s cheek. On the other hand, his hand was full of cold sweat.

Sure enough, Mary’s countenance rose. While smiling, she cupped her husband’s face and mouthed words of love before leaning in her beloved’s shoulder. “Dear, do you have suggestions?” She asked softly.

“What do you think of Kailar? Kailar Ettorek?” Andrea Ettorek said proudly.

“It’s a perfect name. Then… we will name our child that name…?”

“Yes! His name will be Kailar!” Andrea Ettorek roared like a lion causing Mary to frown.

“Dear, our child is still here. Don’t be so loud.” Then she kissed him on the cheek.

The proud and dignified Grand Duke suddenly behaved with a foolish smile written on his face.

Kailar? Is that me…? I guess I have a new life. New parents, new body, new name… let’s start everything over again.

The child closed his eyes. His heart thumping voraciously as if it’d chosen a set of path to tread upon.

Under the embrace of Andrea and Mary Ettorek, Kailar Ettorek fell asleep.
