Chapter 18: Coastal Policy

Kailar shook his head lightly and continued drinking his juice. He had a lot of secret in his body that were difficult to tell and it’d be troublesome if these kids were to follow him.

“So what do you want me to do, father?”

Looking at his son smiling and drinking, Andrea Ettorek knew that his precious son was angry.

“Haha, well, you know these kids are the strongest in your generation. It’d be great if you can nurture them and bring out their potential. Even I look forward to seeing what you can do, son.”

Kailar sighed in his heart. Seeing that those two children were unexpectedly the best apprentice in the whole kingdom, he felt somewhat dissatisfied. At best, he didn’t want to take care of them but looks like he had no choice.

“All right.” Kailar replied perfunctorily, lacking any sort of emotion.

As for Gawain, Kailar did not think too much about him. Gawain’s father seemed to have requested that Gawain be Kailar’s apprentice. The two families were always together, after all. Besides, Kailar’s future seemed bright and prosperous. Having Gawain by his side would only serve to have their family prosper evermore.

Putting the matter aside, Kailar shook his head. He’ll go along with this.

In the next instant, he tried to inquire his father about the current matters of the war. He didn’t expect that Andrea Ettorek had already packed two small bags.

This was really troublesome.

“Let’s go.” Kailar’s voice was neither filled with anger nor happiness. It was calm and soothing as he instructed his new apprentices while walking out the door.

“Son, I heard you brought back a little unicorn?” Andrea Ettorek’s question alerted Kailar and he quickly turned around.

The other two little guys widened their eyes.

“I found it when I went to Nottingham Forest alone. Who knew Leyton was just in my way this whole time.” Kailar laughed jokingly. His eyes softened, remembering the memories he spent with his protector. Truthfully, Leyton’s the only person who knew him the most. He was by this little monster’s side almost every day.

Andrea Ettorek smiled bitterly. Who knew his son would bravely venture into the forest and encounter a devil beast no less. Before he knew it, the second generation who’d pave Camelot’s future have already risen, and they, the old ones should retreat and allow their offsprings to shine in all their glories.

But for now, they needed to nurture them.

“Are you going to the coast of Grimsby?” Kailar was a bit loose on the matter. “Don’t worry. Let the people from the coast handle this. They have the means to do so.”

“Then what of the livelihood of the people? They can’t stop fishing. It’s how they are able to live.” Andrea Ettorek said solemnly. This was the best choice, but from an economic perspective, it wasn’t worth the risk at all.

“That’s exactly why.” Kailar smiled. “Haven’t you been trying to rectify the other side of the coast all this time? Divide the area. Have the knights defend the coast where those barbarians tend to wreak havoc upon. Use your knights. They’re powerful enough to do the deed. On the other side of the coast, concentrate on production and distribution according to economical work. In this way, it’ll grow into a true town. Thereafter, father can send one of your trusted advisors to run and police the coast according to your will. Send your men and knights to guard and protect the town too. As the town is part of your dukedom, they’ll need to pay a certain amount of taxes each year in order to continue providing them safety. In this way, not only do we have control of the coast, the lives of the people will also dramatically improve while protected from sea invasion.”

Kailar’s words caused Andrea Ettorek to sink back in silence. He prodded over the matters while tapping his fingers unconsciously on the table. Kailar knew his father had already made a decision.

Gawain and the other knight apprentice watched with eyes wide open regarding the matters of Red Leaf. To think that policies like this which was too important could be settled in a short time… how absurd!

Almost any policy made had to be followed by crook or by nook and usually, when creating new policies, it’s bound to affect the interests of the dukes and lords. Sending out their trusted advisors and knights out? Foolish! That’s bound to lose power in their reign yet to think Kailar had actually proposed such idea and Andrea Ettorek had even thought about such policy. This sort of genuine ruler who cared about their people as opposed to their interest was truly rare.

“Father, you should talk it out with the council and the four giants. We’ll be going first.” Kailar smiled.

He didn’t need to intervene with the matters of the world. He’d already done so. He’ll start with his own ideas and slowly seep it into his father’s head. Bit by bit he’ll change the world indirectly till he takes a position of power.

The three little children went straight to the stable. Red Leaf castle housed a horses mixed with the blood of a devil beast. This half animal and half devil beast weighed more than 1,200 kilograms. To boot, it was powerful and brimmed with explosive force.

The hybrid horse weighing hundreds of kilograms was at least 1.8 meters tall. When its hooves thumped on the ground voraciously, it sounded like a roaring thunder would bring about calamity to them if not careful.

Moreover, the diet of this hybrids wasn’t to expensive. All it needed were carrots and potatoes steamed and stirred with mud which they found were very appetizing. In this way, the amount of horses and devil beast hybrids of Camelot had in their stables multiplied tremendously.

The knights in question were more than happy hearing such news and even more so for the two apprentices following Kailar.

When the two apprentices entered the stable, their body shook vehemently. The spectacular sight of the stable brimmed with horses of different colors slept, played, relaxed, and horses who thought themselves of high caliber acted ever so arrogantly. It truly gave the duo an unfathomable feeling.

“Uncle, it’s good to see you.” Kailar greeted the man whose face was adorned with beautiful wrinkles. He was in charge of the stable. “Help me choose something good for these two people.”

The old man relished in delight upon hearing the young lord think of him as an uncle. When he glanced at the two boys behind Kailar, the old man nodded and immediately searched the best horses compatible for the two knights in training.

The matter was an easy feat for him. He had worked here for most of his life. It could be said that this stable was like his second home.

Before the old man returned, Kailar whistled softly. As if a cataclysmic event had occurred, groups of horses neighed and bowed their head down as if a king was coming. Not too long after, a pure white horse neighed proudly and jumped over the railings. Its big bright eyes watched the horses retreat with their heads bowed down. They dared not pick it up.

It was the devil beast Kailar found in the inner parts of Nottingham Forest.

“Master, the horses you requested.” When the old man came back with the two mighty fine horses, he smiled nonchalantly. This little monster before them was an otherworldly existence. One that should be cherished and protected. This little monster would grow and cause havoc throughout the world if he ever wished it so. He’d even managed to grab a devil beast follow him. How extraordinary!

“Thank you.” Kailar nodded as he patted the unicorn. “Let’s go. I’m in a hurry.” He spoke to the two apprentices and got on the unicorn’s back.

The two knights in training looked at each other and smiled softly. They aimed to be knights. They’ve trained for this. If they couldn’t even ride a horse mixed with the blood of a devil beast, they had no rights to call themselves a knight.
