Chapter 002: Excitement
Years have passed since the birth of Kailar Ettorek, the future heir to Red Leaf. The people believed the child had been blessed by the Goddess of Fortune and they too believed Kailar Ettorek had brought unto them a good life. Since the child was able to eat tomatoes and potatoes nonstop, they found the two crops were non-toxic and such, a good new life awaited them. Though they may not have an overabundance of food in store, with the newfound knowledge in hand, they wouldn’t need to starve to death.
Potatoes and tomatoes are without doubt high-yielding crops for they provide nutritional values and means to alleviate one’s own hunger. With barley and wheat being the kingdom’s main food for consumption, the kingdom lived a nutritional lifestyle.
Compared to the kingdom’s main food for consumption, tomatoes are high in vitamin C, a nutritional ascorbic acid found in some foods. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant which helps protect cells from damages caused by free radicals.
Coupled with potatoes which are high in carbs, it contains enough caloric values to maintain one’s own bodily functions.
With these two vegetables introduced in Red Leaf, the people no longer lived a wasteful life.
And all these bountiful blessings was all due to the Grand Duke’s son, heir to the Red Leaf who had ingested the two crops. Thereafter, the two high-yielding crops were officially named 【Potato】and 【Tomato】and thus entered the houses of many peoples.
Inside Red Leaf castle, the two crops, potato and tomato appeared on the Grand Duke’s table.
But unlike the usual tomato salad and potato salad found in the homes of ordinary folks, the two dishes were savorily cooked.
The little lord had prepared the dish by himself!
Despite withholding doubts whether the food laid before him was edible, Andrea Ettorek nevertheless grabbed a golden fork and placed the food in his mouth.
“Dear…” Mary smiled softly, gently moving her hand. The fork slowly moved towards her mouth, chewing the contents thereafter.
“Oh! It’s delicious!” Touched by the rich savory flavor, Andrea Ettorek chewed faster. Before him were various dishes of steak, bread, milk, barbecue salad, and butter cheese. “What is this?!”
“Super delicious! Dear, try this one.” Mary on the other side donned the same reaction.
“Okay.” Rather than tasting an unidentified food, Andrea Ettorek picked another dish suggested by his dearest wife and gently dipped the fork into his mouth. “Delicious!”
Mary tried another set of dish. Just like her husband, she too was surprised at the rich flavor but unlike the Grand Duke’s brash roughness, her movements were gracefully elegant.
“Thank you for the praises.” Kailar smiled softly and ate his scrambled eggs, three pieces of white bread, and tomatoes on his plate. His drink was a mixture of smashed vegetables turned juice which he prepared himself. Though the vegetable juice lacked taste, it nevertheless provided him the necessary nutrients adults needed to replenish their energy.
This was the best viable and alternative method.
God knows how difficult it was to harvest a nestful of eggs in this world!
And such, the vegetable juice was the way to go.
Looking at Kailar’s face, Mary was somewhat distressed. “Sweetie, don’t drink it if it’s not good.” Truth be told, she was worried. Her heart had stopped once when she heard her son had eaten tomatoes and potatoes which she thought were toxic crops previously.
“It’s alright, mother.” Kailar wiped the remnants of the green juice from his mouth with a white towel. He smiled softly before signaling the maid behind him to pull the stool away. Thereafter, he jumped off the stool and walked outside the courtyard.
“Uh…” While chewing the scrambled eggs, Andrea Ettorek rubbed his forehead as he moaned. “Honey, don’t you think our little baby is too calm? My goodness, I just want a playful child who laughs a lot. It just frightens me seeing our little baby like that.”
“Dear, how can our baby inherit after you if he’s not so smart?” Mary smiled while tilting her head.
“Err… this is also true… ah, forget it, let’s let our little baby grow.” Andrea Ettorek shook his head and swallowed another scrambled eggs. “But this is really delicious. What is this?!”
Walking out of the corridors and into the courtyard, Kailar spoke to the knight standing beside him. “Leyton, get ready. We’re going to Nottingham Forest.”
Hearing Kailar’s intent, Leyton bent his body and spoke gently. “Going again?”
“It should be fine. The place where going to is safe.”
“There is a place where the devil beasts have been sighted… but although I am not afraid, I am afraid that the young lord would be injured…” Leyton’s voice softened more and more and finally shutting his mouth when looking at Kailar’s calm demeanor and gentle smile. With Leyton’s mouth shut tight, he obediently arranged the horses.
The world Kailar lived in was rather strange.
Though it was similar to the Middle Ages, it hinted an illusory and mysterious aura.
But of course, the beast mentioned priori was not a devil beast. There are no magics in this world. Just that the so-called devil beast was a demon-like beast.
The devil beast were five times stronger than an ordinary beast and can just as easily break a human’s tendons by a simple lick or rub. Surely the devil beast had undergone a tremendous mutation through the passage of time hence their demon-like characteristics.
There are no mages in the world he lived in but there are astrologers and prophets alike. Kailar held a contemptuous view towards the unscientific occupation.
But it should be held that human beings had long found a method to restrain the devil beast or otherwise the world would’ve been overrun by such ferocious beasts.
Kailar believed the world had a sort of dark power and he never really found where the source originated from but he’s eager to find out the unsolved mystery.
Above that, knights are the strongest fighting forces in this world.
Knights placed loyalty, integrity, honor, courage, fearlessness, and sacrifice as their six noble truths above all else. Hence the reasoning they remain the strongest fighting force in this world. Knights who survived each battle are instantly awarded the title of Lord by that of a higher power.
It showed the knights qualification to grow stronger and stronger with the passing of time.
Some time ago against the fierce battle with the Vikings, Cain bathed himself in the blood of the Vikings, garnering victory over the Vikings. Cain was directly named Lord Cain by Andrea Ettorek.
The rumored ending was more than enough for Kailar to infer that Lord Cain himself led a group of knights to charge against those ferocious Vikings with the use of the devil beast. But as to where the power of those devil beast originated from… he was unsure.
It was truly interesting!
This world very much lined with the concept of divine monarchy in the western world and the sort of ruling, titleship, battles, was a similar concept of western thought.
It was too fun!
Nothing was more interesting than stumbling upon a new board game with a new set of rules.
